Think it's all rip-the-piss and friends of the promoters in terms of the music, but I'm guessing therein lies the beauty of the whole thing :D

One of my mates is in the group of lads who organised it. Unfortunately I could not go but i was gutted cause it was a brilliant weekend. It was not rally promoted, only though friends and word of mouth etc. It was basically a mini-festival the extended friends of him and the group of lads that did all the work. Looked like savage fun. Everyone had great reports, loads of fun, zero hassle. These type of things are the way ahead, I'm so over Electric Picnic etc.

Yeah, worked there doing stagecrew/instrument lockup the last two years and its beginning to disappear up its own arse. The crowd I've fallen in with in college are degenerate musicians, artists and clubbers and we're all of the same mindset - going off to Exit or timewarp or something is all well and good, but trying to promote and attending stuff on the Irish scene is always the best way forward; weather be damned.

It's on facebook there is a general No Place Like Dome page and another for the NPLD 2010 event itself.

The lineup for this year isn't announced but it'll be a broad mix. DJ's and bands... I know DJ Tu-Ki played last year and it was a belter!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 theonlydave

I was at it last year, I heard about it through a friend of mine. 'twas a stonker! :D
This year i'm involved in the organising of the event. It's a small festival with massive amounts of potential, because it's so new, and because of the ethos of the event it's going to take off slowly. It's hard to explain, like describing a colour to a blind person, but here goes;:P
As the weekend develops, so does the community. We encourage you to contribute to the festival as you see fit. The acts will be performing for the love of performing. After all, isn't it great to make someone smile?:) Everyone should be open minded and able to approach a stranger. You, as a guest, should try to become part of the weekend, part of the community, and I promise you, what little you give, you'll receive so much more! nothing is available to buy here, so the community becomes self sufficient. This invokes a gifting and sharing culture that you will only experience when you are surrounded by good, GOOD, people.

I would have to say it didnt really grab my attention from the video or the tune playing but going by what 'theonlydave' says here below it is everything that a festival/gig/rave/gathering should be all about & if the tunes were of a great standard this is probably the beginning of a real feeling of unity in music & feeling type event that was ever present when the Rave exploded into Ireland 1993-1994. (only thing is the fancy dress i would criticise as being a requirement as some people dont like being extroverts, so it is slightly imposing & not allowing the natural flow & inclination of the people to take precedence)

Fair enough lads its not everyone's cup of tea, but lets try to be supportive please. At least these guys are putting effort into putting on a festival, which unlike so many others - the main aim is not to try to rape people for as much money as possible.

Maybe ya picked me up wrong........i was appluding the concept completley.......whatever the music style at the end of the day its the concept thats great for anyone thats going........i simply think that their should be no rules or pressure put on people who may be reluctant to attend if they have to dress up........some people are introverted but still like to have a good time in their own space at their own pace & this sounds exactly like the place you could do that & be respected.......i do hope its a success & if anyone could give a little more insight into the styles of tunes over the weekend please i may attend my self.

This is a great lil festival!!!!
Heard nothing but good things and ANYBODY doing anything to promote music and proper craic should have all support from everyone who's ever been to any kind of session and enjoyed it!!
It will only get better and better with support from all around.

Sorry, facebook has bizarrly become the main hub for these things lately so I just automatically post that link first! Here's a link to our myspace and official site.

Just heard from one of the organisers, and really looking forward to it. They seem to have a really good ethos, and are planning for this year's event to have a substantial amount more to offer than previous years (without reaching 'big' festival levels, of course!).

Here's the blurb from the NPLD facebook:
    It's hard to explain, but here goes;

As the weekend develops, so does the community. We encourage you to contribute to the festival as you see fit, for example, the acts will be performing for the love of performing. After all, isn't it great to make someone smile? Everyone should be open minded and able to approach a stranger. If this sounds like your kind of weekend, and you fancy some of this. Then this is where you need to be!

After all, there is NO PLACE LIKE DOME!

So Domers, Domettes and Dome virgins, after the social success that was last year we decided it would be crime to not to go down that road again. We cant give away much now but contruction has already began on the new playground...

really good ethos, and are planning for this year's event to have a substantial amount more to offer than previous years? Dodgy salesman vibes:D

this is all very vague, and so was the interview on the radio show - whats the big secret?

Ha, well i guess i have a predisposition to promote it seeing as i'm playing :)

But, yeh, just from the email I got from the organisers they seem really nice, and seem to have grand plans. They're making announcements about lineups and content during the week on their site, so I don't want to spoil the suprise- not my place to do so!

    BLATANT burning man rip off

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 theonlydave

We have our website up an running now, www.npld.ie .There's not much on it yet, but we'll be releasing the line up this week.
We have some of the best home grown talent about at the moment, and there will be a broad range of musical styles on totally fitting stages.

We understand this sort of thing isn't for everyone.

We're not ripping off the burning man, but it's influences are hard to ignore. This is hardly a bad thing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 theonlydave

For details about some of the acts....

    http://www.npld.ie/

For those who may not have heard, NPLD wants to leave no trace.

We are temporary lodgers at Temple House for the weekend, and the sheep, that will be giving up their homes, would like their field back the way they gave it to us. If you leave anything behind you, we're going to have to pick it up. We'd like you to consider bringing recyclable products with you, cleaning around you as you go, and respecting the beautiful setting we get to revel in. The future is bright for NPLD, so together we can make sure it continues with the right values.

There's no place like it folks.
    NPLD

NPLD would like to invite all Domers, Domettes and perspective Dome virgins to come and get a feel for what is sure to be one of the highlights of 2010.
Yes, we're going to be coming at you from Tribe nightclub in Stillorgan, on May 8th from 8pm till 11pm, with a small selection of the performers lined up for the main event in Sligo on June 19th and 20th.
Make sure you get there early so you don't miss out on any of the fun packed night we've got in store for you.
    Admission is FREE!
So get yourselves in there if you were with us last year, or you're coming this year, or you want to find out more about us.

    NPLD.
