Why do three have a terrible collection of phones.

If they offered a android handset on bill pay with the rates they offer including internet add on i would so switch.

They have terrible marketing - they have the best prices but no one knows about them and they have a muck selection of phones.

Great selection of high end phones coming over the coming months

    android phones?

    htc hero?

+1 on that. A great selection is not the same. If they came out with th milestone or even the@acer liquid then they'd be there.

if I ran a network, then I'd make sure to be out with new phones as a top priority.

I think some of the networks are still underestimating the interest in and demand for the new generation smart phones. They've gone from business tool / geek toy to mainstream in a matter of a few months.

Once the iPhone broke the ice, and now with android lots of people want them.

Apps like Twitter, Facebook etc are also driving the interest.

I have to congratulate Meteor for jumping into it with the HTC Hero, but it seems their network support is a bit dodgy at the moment, which is very unfortunate.

I don't know what 3 Ireland is up to though. They need an android handset in that range. What's the point of a 3G network without decent phones!?

I was begining to think they were running some kind of antique and rubbish phone museum.
I was due an upgrade for months but due to the horrendous phone selection never used it.
Left for meteor in the end for the HTC Hero.

Ironically when cancelling I couldn't get through to the cancellations department initially due to what I was told was the high volume of calls.
Maybe I wasn't the only one sick of the phone selection.

meteor, 02 and vodafone are useless on internet on phones. 99c a day ffs.

Hopefuly they get any android headset even the tatoo with the screen size issues that has.

yes have to agree with everyone here.

thanks - hopefully they get up to speed.

I'll more than likely leave 3 for Meteor for the Hero in the next couple of weeks when my contact is up. 3 have a couple of weeks to get new phones out to keep me and I'm sure many others

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,378 ✭✭✭✭jimmycrackcorm

I'm in the same boat also - out of contract and just waiting to see who brings out a good android phone. I don't want to go to meteor for the hero as they weren't great when I was last with them.

Same here. I've asked a few of the three sales reps is there any plans for the iphone. The last guy said there was a disagreement between Apple and Three with regards to the return policy on faulty phones and for that reason the negotiations stalled.
Thinking of moving too unless they bring out some top notch handsets soon.

I know! I joined 3 a couple months back cuz of their prices (love the units instead of set minutes/texts too) and have just bought my second android phone sim free on eBay!

I emailed them asking that since they saw themselves at the bleeding edge of mobile telecoms how come they didnt have any android devices, and more importantly when were they gonna support the android market, and i got an email back from india basically saying "currently we have no android phones, please keep an eye on our rubbish phone list on our website for any new releases"!

Over the Christmas I inquired in a few 3 shops about Android phones. Nobody had a clue what I was talking about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭Walkman

Two Android phones are currently in testing with 3. If successful they should be out on the market within the next couple of months.

I have a tattoo on 3 - it works great the only issue being the switch to roaming when out of 3g coverage. the bill free internet charge is the reason I joined and am very happy with the service although I would go back to vf if they offered a similar add-on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,246 ✭✭✭conor.hogan.2

wow - a lot of interest for andoids on three.

I could get a tatoo or hero etc and unlock it etc and it is quite easy - plus plenty documentation online (plus specialised details for ireland and three) but I just want a phone I can buy from them....... less hassle and will work fully - ill still root it tho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭rordeb

my phone came unlocked and I reckon the hero and tattoo still come unlocked.

Im off contract with three and interested if anyone has details of there future phone choice. Current line up seems very low on smartphones. Currently use a e71 and looking for an equivalently good email phone.

Looks like more Android handsets are coming to 3 UK. Hopefully it'll filter through to the Irish market.

rordeb, can you tell me the APN settings for three on the tatoo?

I tried a sim in their shop yesterday and couldn't browse the web. the google chat app worked fine so I was defo connected to their network and was getting the 3g/HSDPA icon indicating as such

the APN entry I used was "3ireland.ie" nothing else!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,182 ✭✭✭dionsiseire

Ive a HTC Hero on Three

I bought the Hero from Xpansys so it came Network Unlocked, paid a little more initially but worth not being tied to a contract

It works grand, i'd like Three's Reception to be a bit better (and it constantly tries to roam while on a data connection, which is fine, with the data pack it seems im able to do that without incurring and cost) but sometimes i find depending on where i am, internet is a no go.

    MMSC http://mms.um.3ireland.ie:10021/mmsc
    MMS Proxy : mms.3ireland.ie

and where are you having the problems? I'll mostly be in Dublin west/North/city center! Thanks for info on APN dionsiseire - must try that out in a three store again :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,182 ✭✭✭dionsiseire

Lol you were in a Three store and they didnt have it to hand! forshame

Im in Swords myself, generally ok around there, i play darts in a league that spans Rush, Skerries, Balbriggan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,266 ✭✭✭00sully

yeah was in a three store yesterday where they had to ring technical support to look for the apn - and they couldn't even understand what the guy was saying!! It was a gallery. Will try that today although I'm not filled with confidence switching to three to be honest!

    :confused::confused:

i pay 25 a month with meteor for 300 anytime mins, and I use all my webtexts through Jelly SMS, so free texts too.

I can then pay 5 euro for 250 mb data, or 15 euro for 10gb

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,266 ✭✭✭00sully

    or vodafone

    €45
    300 mins any network
    300 txts any network
    2gig data
    Free vodafone-vodafone txt/calls

so an extra €10 for more minutes, more data and peace of mind re: network/support/coverage it would seem!?

I barely know anyone on VF so i would use up those 300 txts rather quickly, in fact i tend to write long enough messages at time, sometimes bordering 2 to 3 texts. i would whip through them in record pace.

Not sure it would be as useful to me, i'd probably rack up costs alongside spending a tenner more

are you sure its not 200, looking at the meteor site your plan doesnt exist
They have 30 euro for 200 mins, 200 texts, Meteor to Meteor Calls and Txts Free and you can do an add-on for Internet

I hear ya about web txts but as above, i tend to write longer messages at time, which i would have to send as broken txts in Webtxt, and i'd easily whip through 200 txts and most likely the web txts too.

Where is this plan? I think you've mixed up Perfect Choice access plus 300 & 150 which has a Minimum charge of 60pm that's a whole 25pm extra than OP is paying.

If you want to compare like for like, relax 150 verus Perfect Choice access plus 150

On Voda for 45pm you get
    150 minutes
    150 texts
    2Gb of data

On 3 for 38.99pm you get
    250 minutes
    150 texts
    1Gb of data
    Free Skype
    Free Msn
Calls to the UK & NI included
    Guaranteed upgrade after 10mts

As for the better network, Your kidding right?, 3 have the best data network in the country and will probably have around 99% 3G coverage by the end of the year, Vodafone are no where near that, as for support the last time I called Vodafone I was speaking to someone from Africa.

So for price/network/coverage/support your mistaken if you think Vodafone has it all.

back on topic, where's these android phones, I think i'd like a legend.

yeah looks like my plan isn't available anymore, deffo 300 anytime mins with free meteor to meteor call+texts plus webtxts, 25 quid a month...that new plan isn't as good at all...

That's the Bill Pay lite one? Savage Plan surprised the whole country didn't move to it at the time.

its a limited offer - double texts/minutes on all monthly plans until 18th March.

    http://www.vodafone.ie/planscosts/paymonthly/currentoffers/freetextminutes/

It says €49.99 but I rang and when you get the plan mentioned here it is as I said above €45 for 300mins/txts/2gig!

Is that not if you sign into an 18mt contract so it's a year and a half before you get another phone..

12 months I think! wasn't even planning on getting a phone with it - altho might get the tattoo if its cheap enough on the tariff!

anyway getting slightly OT here was discussing this in the thread below http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055618761&page=2

this was about 3 and android which I couldn't get working in the three store forcing me to look into other plans!

the 3 best of both is ideal if I could actually get browsing working. see here: http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055446423&highlight=network+android

According to the Sunday Business Post, the iphone will be available from 3 in the second half of this year.

I presume he meant this year. in the meantime 3 shops continue to look like old fone shops
