I'm in Balrothery too, haven't had water all day either. I've been on the councils website and there's no information regarding shutting off the water, not that I'm surprised. I've gas heating heating in my home and know the rads use water, does anyone know if I'm right in saying the heating shouldn't be used? :o

So long as you have water in your storage tank (which would have been full when the water went off) your heating system should be fine to keep going

Water Pressure has been very low for us today (Milverton)

Now that I'm not sure of, I noticed the cold tap was gone in the kitchen early this morning. But I don't know how long the water has been off. will have to investigate, thanks for that :)

Your external supply should connect straight to the cold tap - hence if the cold is off your external supply is interrupted (you will not get any water to flush the toilets either)
The hot comes from the storage tank, via the boiler - you should not drink it unless boiled, and should try and conserve it until the mains supply comes back.
If your hot tap is working, there should be water in the tank (and I would be very surprised if there is not). Either way you should not do your heating system any harm by giving it a try

Problems with levels in Ballycoolin. Knock-on effect to us. Supply restored earlier today, but will take some time before it reaches us.

Thats because they haven't shut off the water.

There is information on their site via an external Twitter link.

    I'm in Balrothery

No problems at all any any time recently

Been through to the emergency team in Fingal Co Council - problem with Palmerstown reservoir has resulted in water cut off until tomorrow morning. That's as of 6pm.
    HTH.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,818 ✭✭✭✭The Hill Billy

Mrs Billy spoke with them at 8pm and they said that it had never been cut off, but was a problem with the pressure due to low levels in the reservoirs.

That's three different versions in the past 4 hours from them.

was on to them several stages today myself (oh dear and as i write this i'm aware i sound like a pest...). first time (this morning) was told the water pressure being reduced wouldn't effect me and i probably just have a frozen pipe. second time (midday) i rang to say it was at least my estate that was out and was told there had been no reports of it. they said they'd get someone to look at it. this evening i was told it was a frozen mains pipe. i just wanted an estimated time they'd have it fixed but wasn't convinced they believed me that we had no water. hope it can be fixed soon.... :-(

Well at this stage all you can do is wait until FCC reopens in the morning. Hopefully they will be able to give you an answer then.

Just so you know, when Fingal or any council reduces the water pressure in an area, the areas on high ground are affected more, this is due to the pressure not being strong enought to pump to the estates, this would expalin the lack of water
Heating systems once they are not open systems, connected direct to the mains, are grand to be running no matter whether theres water or not

Water pressure is back up to near normal for us now. Water is cloudy, but fine.

I have three sisters living up that direction, I'll check and see if they know what the story is and report back! :p

Water back in The Hills @ 11:30.

still not back in Balrothery :(

I do hope the water comes back soon, we've a vomiting bug in our home, and trying to keep the bathrooms clean and disinfected is becoming a major problem.

I'm grateful for this information, but it isn't particularly useful for the elderly, those who don't have the internet, and those who find Twitter absurd.

we have water but not enough pressure to fill the tank

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 11,669 Mod ✭✭✭✭RobFowl

Fingal have announced they've reduced the pressure all round but won't be cutting off the supply to anyone but supply might be "disrupted"

    http://www.fingalcoco.ie/Water/CustomerServices-WaterDepartment/EmergencyInformationUpdates/
Fingal County Council's principal water reservoir at Ballycoolen and all other reservoirs in the county are at critically low levels. Across the region, all Councils are continuing to produce water on a 24 hour basis but water supplies throughout are at critical levels because of increased demand.
As a result Fingal County Council will be throttling water supply from today. Water supply will NOT be cut off completely but all areas will experience reduced pressure and there may be a disruption to supply during the day or at night over the next couple of days. Greatest restrictions will applied at night-time when there is lower demand on the supply.

I may have to go back to showering with Evian water. Takes so long to fill the tank with 2 litre bottles.

Could be a case of "Fowl" play

Perhaps Robbie is siphoning all your water off

Look out for that van on the main road selling large bottles of the stuff:D

Seriously though, I hope you all get your supplies back soon - some forecasts are saying more snow tomorrow, others are for rain - hopefully the thaw will continue

In Balruddery Wood here and we're still without water,,
Rose Park and the Village seem to be OK. I rang Fingal Co and was on hold for 30mins so hung up,,

I put my heating on a while ago, and after twenty minutes there was no heat in the rads at all. All I need now is to lose the electricity and I might I might as well be living in a cave! Watch out for your heating guys, I thought I'd get a day or two more out of it but no such luck.

    Thats the one Beasty :D

There are camping stoves in the Arrow for €12.95 (excluding gas canisters) and "super-ser" heaters in the the hardware store on Drogheda St in Balbriggan for €39.99. You may have to invest Lady Davenport.

We have a water supply here but the pressure is down.

Are you in Balrothery too? I was told by someone living in Rosepark that they have water but its low pressure, but I'm still out. Bizarre stuff!

No water in Portmarnock or Malahide either.

    Off since this afternoon.

I wonder did the Council just neglect this problem over the weekend, have a meeting this morning and decide that wider scale action was then required. Their website wasn't updated all weekend on the issue.

A bit of information wouldn't go amiss.

Their twitter wasn't really helpful this afternoon when they stated there wouldn't be any cut offs today (just lowering pressure), but parts of malahide were left without water...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11 steveccie

Basically the problem is pressure - Balruddery Wood already mentioned is above the 40m contour and as a result the low pressure being provided by the pumping station means the water cannot reach you - fluid mechanics. Therefore lower lying houses in the same vicinity will have water as a result.

PS: By the way LIDL in Balbriggan have batches of 2Ltr water just inside the door for < 50c. HTH.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,190 ✭✭✭Eoineo

Steve would you have a link or any idea of what other areas in Balrothery/Balbriggan are above the 40m contour please?

Hi, I'm in Balruddery Wood, any ideas about the water? I was after ringing council but all lines are busy, so no hope anyway.
Is there water to be deliver by tanker or something, I've heard, but could'n get more info about that?

    sagit

    Hi,
It's referenced in the 2002 planning sessions from Fingal Co Council -> http://www.fingalcoco.ie/minutes/meeting_doc.aspx?id=20715
This pre-dates the newer estates in Balrothery so no named estates shown but it does show they knew about potnetial issues in the area prior to allowing planning permission to be granted.

I think it is fair to say that alternative planning will be needed by residents in this area. Supply and demand dictate that unless we get large rainfall in the next 10 days - with demand remaining high between leaks and idiots running taps then reduced\no water will be the norm until the reservoirs get back up to appropriate levels unfortunetly. :(

But the source of the water has not been cut off. As said already its a pressure issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭Sinemo

So surely areas in malahide would then have low pressure if this was the case? Others in malahide have not encountered any problems (at least thats how it was last night)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11 steveccie

Please remember that different areas are fed by different pumping stations\subsidiary reserviors - for example Balrothery is fed by the palmerstown reservoir - see the plan below.

I got through to the emergency number at Fingal Co.
As previously stated they have not switched off the water, they have reduced the pressure and this is giving problems to some estates and houses on higher ground.
I also asked will there be tankers sent around to any of the affected estates and the person was unable to tell me ,, grrrrrr.
I was talking to a friend who lives in Rosepark and seemingly the water came on for about 2 hours yesterday,, this should be enough time to refill the tanks in the attic. If there is anyone here from Balruddery Woods did you notice the water being restored at anytime yesterday??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1 Dani x

I was just wondering is anybody else in the fingal area having trouble with their water?? My area has had no water since saturday afternoon and a family friend that works for the council told us their is no water in the water tanks as fingal co co gave water to dublin city co co and never got it back the family friend also told us we could be with out water untill next week or at very best the end of this week!!! my many efforts to contact the council have been wasted their phone is constantly engaged (probably off the hook) and they haven't responed to my emails!!
