I have watched a horse of John Kiely's (auricaria)win the bumper in punchestown on New years eve which she won very very impressively,Her last run when second she was ridden all wrong and only failed to catch For Bill on the line finishing like a train, previous run before that won easy, Can a mare win the bumper? Giving that her bumper wins were over 2.2miles is this a + or a - for Cheltenham? I hear that she is still not fully fit yet and will run either Cheltenham/Aintree. Any thoughts?

Yeah I agree dugger, she looked very impressive that day but the ground in Cheltenham will surely be better. That said, I know nowt about her preferred going.

Didn't a mare of Tom Cooper's win the bumper about 3/4 years ago? Total Enjoyment, I think was her name...

ya she won it for the garden kingdom syndicate

Total enjoyment won it so its possible for a mare ta win the champion bumper.
Ive followed auracaria in all her runs and prob should be unbeaten but there was no disgrace in being beaten by for bill who is also very promising.
It`ll be interesting to see if she improves to hampion bumper standar and we have yet to see any of the main stables produce their bumper artillary so there is interesting times ahead.

Nicky henderson has a bumper horse to come out in the next couple of weeks that he has said is among the best he has ever trained!! No real standout bumper horses so far so you could give kiely's filly every chance!

Anyone see Dragons Roost today , he looked very impressive when winning what looked like an ordinary bumper at Newbury , Henderson had the odds on fav who looked to be travelling really well until the winner came up alongside , the pair soon pulled well clear , winning distances 3 1/2 lengths and 14 lengths . The winner won still on the bridle .
He's by that tough stayer Craigsteel out of a daughter of Nancy Myles and is currently 20/1 for the festival bumper .

Total Enjoyment wasn't the first mare to win it either as far as I remember. An English mare had won it before her but I can't think of her name and I haven't time now to research it!

Didn't see the race but the comments on the betfair forum were very encouraging

Nick Mordin had an interesting article in last week's weekender about bumper horses. Said t he top rated on RP ratings has won the champion bumper 4 of the last 5 runnings. Also said Araucaria's mark after Punchestown would be good enough already to win most runnings

Mucklemeg won it for Sean Treacy in the early 1990's .

Is it possible , or likely even , that Kiely might chose to avoid taking on the geldings at Cheltenham with her , and instead aim her at the valuable mares bumper at Aintree ?

Mucklemeg was a mare allright, but it was Edward O Grady that trained her. 1994 was the year.

You are spot on , I think though that Treacy did train her before she was sold into O'gradys , she beat a mare of Pat Flynns , Aries Girl , into second at Cheltenham didn't she ?

Last of the 16/1 Araucaria went today

Elegant Concorde shortened again too, 8/1 VC Bet by themselves

Suppose it's hard to back Araucaria when we aren't sure will she line up.

I just had another look at this mare's 3 runs and it has reawakened my interest in her

She showed a great turn of foot to win first time out in a mare's bumper. Got a strange ride against for Bill (strong form) and was brought very wide turning for home.

Her last run doesn't need much comment, a 24l romp on new year's eve.

    Looks a very promising mare

I heard JP bought one for it last week. He won in Ffos Las recently. Supposed to run again soon.

Made in Time. Runs in the big bumper in Newbury tomorrow. The 20s for Cheltenham is gone over the last few days.

Looks an extremely hot bumper. Lots of winners from good stables represented

Made in Time beat Royal Mile last time out, was beat in Kempton bumper today but I didn't see the race

was told at work today that this prince of pirates that won in kempton today was goin to be a good thing but if he goes to cheltenham he wont have a hope with magnier on board

Geraghty gave hensdersons other horse a very suspect ride in second.

I'd Prince of Pirates backed and was glad that B.J.G. didn't go hell for leather on his one , that being said the winner looked very green before and during the race - I'd expect him to come on quite a bit .
That Made in Time ( JP bought him on AP's recommendation ) should be well tested by Dragons Roost (who really caught my eye when winning ) at Newbury , 4.45 .

Theyve changed their minds and he has been reentered into the market for the champion bumper.

Hardly surprising now in fairness, looked a decent prospect and won very well.. ;)

I wouldn't be totally be put off made in time, still looked a bit green when McCoy hit him and id still be hopeful of a good run

Looked to me that Made in Time travelled the best through the race and just done to much to early and couldnt gain any ground on the winner when he got away. However Al Ferof is a dour galloper and if plenty of use is made of him in the champion bumper he must go close. His entry adds a little spice to it.

I was told a couple of weeks ago to keep an eye on Al Ferof for Cheltenham but completely forgot about it until I was looking at saturdays results this morning! Anyone got a price on him? Don't have access in work. Was he impressive on saturday?

He was fairly impressive and galloped well, it was a decent Grade 2 Bumper... you can get 10's with powers or 12's with ladbrokes.

Red hot bumper at Naas on Sunday. Tavern Times runs against Araucaria and 5 other winners, 2 of whom are unbeaten. Cheltenham betting will get a shake up after this. Rite of Passage won this bumper last year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,494 ✭✭✭finbarrk

Looks a right one in Naas allright, 7 out of the 8 are winners.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

Might well head to Naas Sunday. Pretty good card. Pittoni takes on older horses in a novice hurdle

Gonna nail my colours to the mast with Araucaria with that one.

So am I. Currently 12/1 with PP for the Champion Bumper. That'll be into around 7/1 with an impressive show tomorrow. John Kiely is a master with bumper horses, he had a decent thing in Liss na Tintri around this time last year as well but hasnt done much since.

Day of a Lifetime is 14/1 as well and will be about 1/3 for today's bumper at Fairyhouse so expect the market to be changing quite a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,941 ✭✭✭krustydoyle

Anyone impressed with Days of a Lifetime today???

Big Horse with a funny leg action... still a bit green but should line up for the champion bumper...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,657 ✭✭✭brandon_flowers

Days of a Lifetime was impressive enough given the ground was so soft. Still very hard to judge though as he was held up for an age before being let go in the straight. I wouldn't rule him out but I wouldn't be putting anything on him at the moment either.

Araucaria favourite tomorrow looking at Betfair. Looks like she'll be about 5/4 looking at Betfair with Tavern Times around 2/1 with around 8/1 bar
