there is no running water in my building in D8, is the same for you guys?
    i've just read this
    07/01/2010 - 13:55:21

Fingal County Council has warned homeowners and farmers in north Dublin to stop leaving taps running as reservoirs were rapidly draining.

It is believed people worried about frozen pipes have been leaving water to flow from taps to keep the cold at bay.

Fingal said water supplies from the Ballycoolen reservoir were critically low.

“If supplies in this reservoir remain at current low levels the council will have to reduce water pressure in all areas until water supply level returns to normal levels,” a spokeswoman said.

I'm in D2. Think mine has stopped at some stage today.. just realised my hot water tank is empty

There's water coming from my cold water tap but I suspect thats just from the tank :/ Must check with neighbours tomorrow if they're the same.

Only one person on my road doesn't have water. Doesn't seem to be D8 as a whole without water.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,577 ✭✭✭✭Victor

Quite a few burst mains due to the cold, so there will be local and general effects.

Water must have been turned off in Dublin 6 this evening. I doubt my pipes are frozen because we have had no problems with it until now and tonight has been the warmest night all year ;)

I'm on the Ballybough end of Richmond Road and no water this morning. Can't see any leaks about the place so it doesn't look like a frozen pipe in the house. No neighbours about to ask about their water :/ Got a ton of water for brewing that's been eyed up for tea now!

Yea water is completely gone in work here. No toilets or anything. Better have D6 fixed by tomorrow.

Water off in the Churchtown/Dundrum area, due on at the minute until 7pm but nothing currently coming out of the taps. Will apparently be on again between 7 and 9 tomorrow morning. First world country my arse.

Thanks for the warning to DLRCoCo, and the provision of a standpipe or similar.

Oh wait, we don't have either of those things... I had to go onto their website to find out they had decided to cut off one of the basic necessities of life.

In Smithfield no water since Friday evening, called the Dublin City Council this morning and they told me that they have not liable, we just have to wait, even if it lasts one week or more.

It's a ridiculous answer, I have to buy water (and I'm not disabled or anything, but what if I couldn't buy it?), there was some water this morning and then they decided to cut it.

The minister says that people are consuming too much water, I would like to know these people, I don't think that there are many, I suspect that the water reserves are depleted because a thaw is coming and many pipes are burst or have leaks.

This does not make any sense, just a few degrees below zero and I don't have water in my house for *many* days; and I live in the city centre of the capital of Ireland, not in the middle of nowhere.

Anyone else in the Rathgar area having problems??

    same situation here in Templeogue.

South Dublin County Council have a lot of fcuking answer for. No warning whatsoever was given and all the shops closeby have ran out of bottled water.

Regular updates are supposedly on http://www.sdcc.ie - regular my ass! Last update was at 6.30pm

    Ridiculous!!! :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Water has been off here in D6W since 11am. I'm trying to conserve what's left in the attic header tank as best I can.

I had low pressure yesterday which was so low that I had a minimal flow from the kitchen tap and zero flow to the header tank. The header tank drained leaving me without water throughout the rest of the house. I rang SDCC emergency number and they told me that there was a supply problem from the Belgard reservoir. Pressure returned overnight but as I stated above the supply has stopped since 11am this morning.

It sounds like you've the same problem I had yesterday - reduced pressure. There is insufficient pressure to drive water up to your storage tank in the attic.

Water still out in Terenure. So much for hoping they'd turn it back on at least temporarily in the morning.

I have just rung Dublin Corporation (City council) for an update. They have reduced water pressure because of leaks and broken water mains, which has resulted in areas that usually have low water pressure anyway not getting water at all. They have no idea how long this will last, but there will be an announcement in the next hour or so regarding sending water tankers out to affected areas, so I was advised to keep an eye on their website or on the news.

    From breakingnews.ie
    12/01/2010 - 11:35:18
Dublin City Council has shut water off in several parts of the city.

Finglas, Terenure, Cabra, Killester, Rathgar, Rathmines and parts of the North Circular Road are affected.

Tankers are available to help residents.

A spokeswoman could not say how long the supplies would be cut.

It's a load of bollocks, to be honest. What is one supposed to do, bring a few empty milk bottles, fill them up and walk back home? It takes around two of those 2L bottles just to flush our toilet once. There's no point.

Those Oxfam and Trocaire ads about kids walking 10miles with a few litres of water on their heads kinda hit home now don't they?!

There was a pipe on Fortfield Road in Dublin 6/6W burst that has been repaired:

    http://www.sdcc.ie/
    Updated 6pm, 12th, January, 2010
The burst main at Fortfield Road at the junction of College Drive has been repaired and water in the area has been fully restored.

Loss of Supply to North of Naas Road
Areas north of the Naas Road have now lost their water supply. This is Lucan, Palmerstown and Clondalkin with the exception of Clondalkin Village, Monastery, Green Isle Area, Newcastle and Rathcoole.

The supply will remain off until 4.00 a.m. Therefore customers should have water back in their homes by 9:00 a.m.

All homes will have 24 hour storage in their overhead tanks from water supplies which were restored earlier today. Households should however take conservation measures as detailed in the published conservation notice

    Known Burst Water Mains Issues

The burst main at Cherryfield in Walkinstown has been repaired and water in the area has been fully restored

The burst mains at Knocklyon and Loughtown are still being investigated however they are not causing customers to be left without water.

    01-4149000
The South Dublin County Council phone line is available for general queries in relation to water supply tonight.

    01-4574907
The Council emergency number is available for emergencies and the reporting of burst water mains only

Customers south of the Naas Road are now experiencing significant loss of pressure which is leading to a loss of supply. This is affecting the areas contained in this list

    January 13th.
    12.15am

Water went off at 10pm last night, was given no warning. I live in Dartry.
I have had no bathroom facilities for a week, no hot water, only one cold tap working in the house and now it's gone. My clothes have been in the washmachine for a week. We did not get any warning. I feel very sorry for the sick and elderly. This is not good enough. It appears to me to be very bad water management. I'm 61years of age and we have had bad weather in this country before, but it seems that the local councils have not updated the services to the country and because they didn't bother and didn't prepare for a snow fall, the country is falling apart. The current problems are due to bad organisation and forward planning by the government. the FF government have let us down badly, very badly.

You need to get bigger water containers. Camping shops sell containers from 10-60 litres. Also you don't need to use drinking water to flush your toilet. You can put a bucket under your drain pipes or collect some water from a mountain stream if you have access to a car.

Batchelor's have put 40 staff in Cabra on protective notice because of the lack of water. But what's most interesting about it is that they have said that
Dublin City Council is 'unable to offer clear guidance on the timing of the likely resumption of full water supplies' to the facility.

Very bad communications there by DCC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,579 ✭✭✭prettyboy81

Why DCC fault? They can only communicate what they know & the problem is not just localised but they whole country....

How can any definitive timeline be given? Water problem is as a result of people panicking leaving taps running & also pipes cracking during the cold causing a feck load of leaks in Dublin.

water problem are the results of pipes not insulated and crappy policies about how depth a water pipe can be? It went down to -3 and everything was frozen, do you think that this happens in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Canada? Not even in that third world country that it is Italy!

This is the 5th day without water and the DCC is not able to say which places have water and which places have not (how come the SDCC can state it in the website?).

Are they not able to give me a timeline? They should hire someone to do their job instead, if I'm not able to give a timeline to my manager he will fire me and I can bet that John Tierney & co. are even more paid than me.

Now water supplies are depleted and they tell people not to fill tanks with water because this will create a vicious circle, honestly I'd much prefer to fill as many tanks as possible rather than waiting on people who are not able do their job.

This is the result of wrong policies, you cannot put that pressure on citizens, again, it's been the 5th day without water in Smithfield (= city centre) and I'm not elderly or handicapped, but what if??? How would the country help me? If you're fine everything will be fine, otherwise you're on your own and with the DCC we're on our own. Let's hope that some day we will get the water back, obviously they won't refund me the water bottles I bought because, as they told me, water is free of charge so I cannot complain.

I agree with a previous comment: what a Mickey Mouse country this is.

Don't rely on the government for anything, they're as clueless and as disorganised as the general population.
