Suspect they are not unique in this approach. Here's what happen.

Called in to find out about membership. The deal offered is that you set up a Direct Debit and after 3 months you are entitled to leave and cancel same.

So I offered them the full 3 months payment upfront. I explained that I was fed up with banks and wanted to avoid any bank charges.

I was told I could not pay them in full but must use the DD option:confused:

Given the recessionary times we live in, I thought in madness them turning down cash upfront !

My only conclusion is that they wish to use the DD basis to disingenously get extra money from customers who are slow to cancel.

Unusual alright! Join bodytrim (unless you want a pool) above the TSB. I've been there for years, it's ok.

Its guaranteed income for them, budgetable and you won't notice it leave your account - most common on annual (?) membership contracts where the DD just rolls on.

Some places won't even write to you or contact you in anyway in case you realise you are still a member!

They allowed me to pay (In Drogheda) for a three month membership in cash. But once it expired then that was the membership over, and i had to either extend or join again. Was €135 at the time I think.

Can anyone roughly tell me the cost of membership of Aura in Navan?

I emailed them and they emailed back looking for my phone number to "discuss the options". I fell for that in Jackie Skelly before and they pestered me with phone calls every week for a month asking if I was joining.
