Is this game still going ahead with the present weather conditions?
It's gonna be damn cold in the south stand for this one.
Ice crystals in your beer anyone?

Back with a bang. Delira himself and Sexon are starting.

Yeah, great to have Jennings and Sexton back, and nice that Jennings gets to captain the team on his return. Will be tough on Sean O'Brien if he is left out against Brive next week, and I think it will be the case. He has been nothing short of superb in Jennings' absence, but Cheika clearly rates Jennings as one of his most important forwards, and leaders. The next captain, perhaps.

I'm actually excited to see McFadden at 12 in a near enough full strength team.. Sexton and Jennings returning will also be interesting to see. Great to see Toner getting a start as well. Must be hard having the veteran likes of Hines, Cullen and O'Kelly ahead of you when your a young lad.

McFadden defensively looks uncomfortable at 12, would of loved to see it BOD at 12 and McFadden at 13 but seemingly you have better chance curing AIDS then selecting BOD at 12 these days.

Great to see Toner and McFadden being given a go in a near full strength team, exactly what they need. But seriously, rob k on the wing? He's not even that good a winger I'd almost rather have his brother there.

It would probably be more effective if kearney and dempsey swaps positions...

Yes, and that happened to good effect earlier on in the year, so i don't know why Cheika has reverted to playing Kearney on the wing, wastes his talents somewhat.

WTF has Mike Ross got to do to get a start?

Why sign him if he's going to be the third choice TH? I thought he did well last week when he came on for Wright, even though Botha going off helped.

its great to see mcfadden start. really rate him as a future star. Toner to me always seems a little uncomfortable, so friday should be good for him. Glasgow are top of the league (with impress results against munster, the ulster and edinburgh), so this a pretty big game, magners league wise.
Can still see it being cancelled............

Maybe Chekia doesnt rate him? I've heard of guys in the past and if he takes a dislike to them then they're chances are more limited. He has favourites like Chris Keane which he obviousely rates as the type of player he wants to play at SH when there are younger options there.

If it's ice cold, we'll have three full backs to just heft the ball down Glasgee's throats all game.

Also, in fairness to him, while not a stellar 11, Kearney can play out there, and it's in Cheika's interests to develop a degree of versatility in his players if possible.

I'm fairly convinced that I'm just not going to bother and watch this one in someone's gaff or the pub. Then again, I always find that nearly dying of hypothermia to watch Leinster (or Ireland play Fiji) is character building. It's a dilemma. :pac:

I've heard vague mutterings that he's not meant to be fit enough in Cheika's eyes, but is considered potentially intenrational standard if he puts on muscle and his fitness increases.

Dont mind what numbers are on the back 3's jersey,Cheika is playing 3 fullbacks and is obviously planning on taking the leather off the ball considering the conditions. They will all interchange between defence and attack.

so, what with the near arctic conditions and (in my opinion) the correct assessment of other posters that this is a game where the backs are gonna exchange punts all night, would someone please explain to me why I am still considering actually attending this match?
Some one said character building?
and yet the mere thoughts of standing there in the freezing cold watching a boring (yet hopefully winning) tactic, makes an important part of me shrink considerably!!
Oh to be a toulouse fan!!!!

The only time I've seen him play 12 was against the Dragons, and the defense was dire. But I would have certainly put the blame on O'Malley far ahead of McFadden that day (he was shocking).

Will be very interested to see how he gets on with one of the best defensive backs in the world outside him.

I don't think the game will be pure kicking.. if you are a back then you don't want to be standing around catching and returning balls all night, you want to run, keep moving and keep warmed up.

I think you should attend the match, same for anybody considering.

I don't want to be looking at empty stands when I'm watching the match in Searsons. :)

Any news on this one today? They were talking about moving kick-off back to 6pm a couple of days ago - wonder if there's any update on that.

Might go in wearing my snowboarding gear :)

As it stands, i'm heading in. Bit worried about getting home after the match though - I can half bus it, half walk it there, but back is a different story.

I'm the same though, at the moment, I'm heading in.

I've heard vague mutterings that he's not meant to be fit enough in Cheika's eyes, but is considered potentially intenrational standard if he puts on muscle and his fitness increases.

He's toned up considerably since joining from Quins already but he is pretty non exsistent around the pitch and Cheika likes his ball playing props. He has'nt got too many years left so he'd want a quick change in attitude/physique if he is going to make it.

The Harlequins nutrionist must have all the props on a diet of Mars bars, John Andress has ballooned since he joined them.

Yeah, they're fine, but getting from Rathfarnham to Ballsbridge is a pain at the best of times :P

If that's true, it's bad for Leinster, not having played a competitive game in 2 weeks.

Jonny Sexton also loses a chance to prove his fitness. :(

I'd hope the LB do all the can to get this game played with Brive around the corner.

ye on leinster site now http://www.leinsterrugby.ie/newsroom/4248.php
Following an inspection of the RDS this morning, tonight's Magners League fixture between Leinster and the Glasgow Warriors has been postponed due to extreme and unprecedented conditions overnight and this morning...
Following health and safety advice and in consultation with match officials, as well as representatives from Leinster and Glasgow, the pitch was deemed unplayable by the STRI 'The Sports Turf Institute' - ground advisors for the RDS - following an 11am inspection.

Ground temperatures fell to -5 degrees overnight and a heavy frost set in which was followed by heavy snowfall early on Friday morning.

Yeah - was a bit strange to have the message yesterday saying it was defiantly on, just to call it off today - considering the weather forecast was saying some snow and freezing temps

I'd like to see mcfadden at 13 and BOD at 12. That would be interesting

EDIT: Just realised game is off, Damn there were many interesting switches there

Live beside the RDS .. barely any snow on the ground up to last night. nothing major anyway. Last night was the worst so far about ballsbridge.

However i think it was Garda advise that the game was called off at the inspection/decission this morning. ie a danger to fans travelling to the game / or from the game (10pm or so)

and minus whatever-the-**** last night as well - can't have been easy to stop that.

ahh yea we got a bit of snow last night alright .. and minus something temps, but i still think the ground would have been covered and prepared for this.

However the roads around aren't the best (particularly the side roads where people normally park) and public transport ending at 8pm for the last couple of nights has swayed the decission to call it off i would suspect ... pity though as we haven't played now in 3 weeks before our 2 massive HC games

I'm very concerned with the lack of game time now - this is worrying.

Glasgow are pissed, and rightly so. I was raging at just travelling 3 hours to Galway!

Glasgow want compensation from Leinster
Friday, 8 January 2010 15:16

Glasgow were today demanding compensation after being left 'disappointed and frustrated' at the cancellation of tonight's Magners League game at Leinster.

The match was postponed due to a frozen pitch following an 11am inspection at the RDS.

Glasgow are upset they were allowed to fly to Dublin yesterday, saying in a statement: 'The Warriors, who travelled to Dublin yesterday, did so on the advice of Leinster officials who expected the game to go ahead as planned.

'A number of travelling fans have also been severely inconvenienced. Glasgow Warriors will now be discussing the late cancellation of the fixture with Magners League organisers, Celtic Rugby, as a priority.'

Leinster insist they had been confident of the match taking place up until yesterday evening, which saw temperatures fall to minus five degrees overnight and a heavy frost set in, followed by heavy snowfall early this morning.

Chief executive Mick Dawson said on his club's official website, www.leinsterrugby.ie: 'Unfortunately, the pitch is unplayable despite a huge amount of effort made by the RDS ground-staff over the last week to get the game played.

'The weather just caught us out in the end because we were confident that it could go ahead up until yesterday evening.

'Following Garda and Health & Safety advice, we had to consider supporters travelling to the game from the far reaches of Leinster and beyond as well as the safety of the players as the roads and pathways around the ground are also treacherous.'

Leinster head coach Michael Cheika added: 'Obviously, we're disappointed that the game has been called off, but the weather overnight was too cold and there was no choice.

'We would have liked to have played this game before the Brive game next weekend, without a doubt, but we'll take the cards we're dealt and we'll get the best preparation possible under way ahead of that match.'
