Engine runs on after ignition switched off

    Hi guys,

I have a volvo penta petrol engine, and I recently fitted a new timing belt and replaced the head. (timing belt snapped at sea - unnoticed drip in radiator caused salt to build up belt and 'sand' it in two... it was a good day)

Anyway - I have replaced it all, but when the engine runs for a while... 30 mins, when I turn the ignition off, it runs on for 20 seconds or so... then shuts off.

I have some ideas why this might be happening - but I am just wondering if anyone else has ideas. I dont think in this case the engine model is important, as I think this problem could happen with any inboard engine... but just incase it is an AQ171C

    All the best

Mine did that also. Had it all packed up ready to go. Test start and would'nt cut off. I pulled the power to the coil and it died. I re connected. went inside to get more stuff and the coil pop and smoked up .. Im guessing a dodgy ignition switch. Ive since fitted a kill switch to the coil and i need to replace the ignition unit for next season.
