I buy them from the butches so they don't come with any nutritional information. I need to buy a scales so i can figure out the weight. But was just wondering if anybody knows what size in grams a decent sized fillet is and how much protein it would contain. Thanks.

I'm guessing, but around 30g ish. Less than 50, more than 20.

edit: Jesus. 50g for a small breast? WTF?

Medium breast is 49g, small is 43g. That's boiled.

Fitday just told me I'm over weight according to my BMI.

    I am not overweight.
    BMI is nonsense.

    Edit: Christ that OT.

More On topic, I find that Fitday will not allow me to have a target weight of higher than my current weight.
    I dislike this.

You can take from it whatever you like, I use it primarily for information to help me on my own program, it's designed for those trying to loose weight not gain.

I'm no fan of BMI either, kind of hard to take anything that could describe Lance Armstrong as overweight bordering obese seriously IMO.

What figures were you looking at? LA's bmi is 24, based on a height of 5ft 9.5in, and weight of 165lbs, which is completely accurate since it came from wiki. I know the standard thing here is to bash bmi because it doesn't differentiate between muscle and fat, which is true, but for the vast majority of the population its not muscle which is pushing them into the overweight or obese category, and that includes Armstrong.

Most I get are ~140g, and I think it is about 22% protein so about 30g of protein.

This is the problem with online calcuators etc, in some countries a "small breast" could well be 50g. My mate said in australia the fillets were massive. I cut off a chicken breast from a large chicken once and I think it was 350g, but I have never seen one that size on sale in Ireland on its own. This is why a scales is so important, and why it is important to know what you are really reading. e.g. calories on alcohol are very often wrong or open to misinterpretation. like a shot of vodka is 35.5ml here but 25ml in the UK, then you have anomalies like baileys which is 50ml here.

I'm just gonna lay it as I see it.
    I'm 6'1" 90Kg.
There is noone who would look at me and say I'm over weight.
    Because I am not.

Its nonsense, it does not in anyway account for body shape.
Someone can be the same height as me, but have a much broader or narrower frame.

I don't know what agenda the people who propose it are following, but I don't like it.

BMI calculators were "invented" circa 1979. people have been getting a lot taller and more muscular since then, as well as a lot fatter in many cases.

everyone of the backs on the Irish rugby team are obese, some morbidly so, according to BMI charts, never mind the forwards.

    I'm 184cm tall and 114kg
that gives me a BMI rating of 34.

I AM overweight at the moment, I'm not gonna beat around the bush about it.
But i wouldnt say I'm obese.

the pros / cons of BMI have been done to death by now! those who are classified as overwight or obese via BMI and who are very muscular and with acceptable BF levels know who they are .. everybody else should stop complaining that they are not "really" fat even with a high BMI ..

So what you are saying is, the pros (which I have yet to see ) and cons (basically that it falls over) have been discussed and we should all just accept it.

    And I'm fat.

    Good post.

as you well know, I was not refering to you dude :(, just the general population .. bmi might be an inaccurate calculation for a lot of folks on here but IMO its pretty accurate for the average person, especially those who dont work out

Firstly, you're very slightly over the 'healthy' category, depending on the time of the day you weigh yourself you could probably slip in, so obviously we're not going to say you're overweight. However one exception doesn't exactly mean the whole thing is invalid for the entire population.

I buy a chicken breast here in Oz every week. There are around 300g, a big on is more. I normally cut it in half and use it twice.

And way, raw chicken is about 23% so just weigh it. A single breast will range from 20-75g protein, so use a scales

Isn't a chicken breast 2 fillets anyways? They are just usually sold after they are cut into 2 over here. Same in the US where the average one is 4 oz (100 odd grams). But if you buy a large one it is 8 oz. It would vary on the quality of the chicken but on average there would be 28-21 grams of protein per 100g of chicken breast. I plan on eating 4 chicken breasts a day for 3 months and i just got a good deal in a local butches for 30 a week along with some steaks too. Right so it works out 22 euro for good sized chicken breasts (around 150g) for 30 of them. So it's worth it to ask your local butcher for a deal if you are trying to bulk up and will consume a lot of meat rather than pick them up separately in supermarkets or whatever.
