    Hi boardsies.

I want to start playing tournaments around the area but am looking for help in finding them and what not.

I'm looking for ones that say you pay E20 at the start and you get your chips. Texas Hold 'Em please.

If anybody knows places to play with such rules please do tell me.I know the rules already as play once a week in a friends house. Also any tips wouldn't go astray ;)

Thanks for the help lads. And sorry for being a 'noob' :)

Sorry for the trouble but are they events where you simply pay say E20 and the game starts?

Try this or there used to be a pub tourney in the Bell advertised here, do a search.
€20 buyin is really too small for anyone commercial to cream a profit.

Jackpot on a Thursday night is exactly that. It's on Montague st, just off Harcourt St. Good friendly game, bit of craic and where a lot of people on here started.

Thanks for this. Does this happen every Thursday night?

Any idea what the Colussus is?

It says you have to be a member of that before play is allowed.

EDIT: Found it. Have to wait a while before becoming a member there.

It's free and takes like 2 mins don't worry about it. Every Thursday yeah.

Do you mean the registration here?
And can I not just go in with my money and play, no?

Well the collosus is basically a casino on one side of the street. Jackpot is the card room on the other side. You have to be a member to get in the door basically.

Tuesday in Voodoo is > Jackpot Thursday.

Jackpot on a thursday is the tournament of kings and you're an absolute nobody on the Irish poker scene if you've never won it, imo. The Voodoo will never have that prestige...

If you goto the Jackpot on a Thursday, Doyler, you can sign up to become a member, it literally takes 2 minutes and is basically just writing your name and address on a piece of paper and is free. I think you also get a free ten euro bet to throw in roulette or blackjack as a bonus! The poker tournament starts at 9 (Actually I think they may have changed that to a little earlier, not sure), you pay 23 euro to play and are given 2,500 chips for that, that's all you pay and is the absolute maximum you can lose. Usually gets around 50 odd if I remember rightly, so the money is usually given out to people placed between 6th and up, obviously the higher you finish the more you get.

Probably don't go there on Monday for your first night, it's a rebuy (unlimited afaik) and is basically not poker for the first hour and a half. Go thursday, it's a bit smelly but can be good crack. Voodoo on Tue or Sat are also very good for starting out.

Thinking about going on Saturday. Do I need to pre-register? Is it one where you pay your money at the start and then the game goes on?

Okay...Voodooo on Sat night is like this.

You go in about 8.10ish.. Register, it's free and takes 10 mins.
You get a small membership card so you don't have to do it again.
    You must be 18.

You then pay 20€ plus the house fee, which is about 3€ extra... So 23€ in total.
They will then ask you to chose a small card from a bunch of cards.
This card will have your table and seat number on it.
You take your seat and will then be given your starting stack.
Sat night I think it's 6000 chips. It's a freeze out, which means you can't re-buy once all your chips are gone. It's best for just starting off.

Play slow, don't get all your chips in unless you have a very good hand.
mostly as it's your first time just enjoy it. You'll make mistakes, act out of turn, bet the wrong amount etc, but they're quite nice there and should not give you too much sh1t for this. but do expect some smart dicks to comment on your play.

The game lasts for you as long as you have chips in front of you. Blinds go up every 15 mins, which is fast enough, so don't play too passively either.

As I say, for the first time, just have fun and don't call too many bets with crap hands.

    Anything else?
