i think it's an insult to the people of the town in england where the planes carrying the dead soldiers from Afghanistan land bringing them back to their families; the insult is that the Moslem's want to have a protest march against the english troops in afghanistan. they have a right to do their march but they are trying to make the insult as big as possible. they preach integration but this belies their preaching. fk em dont let them have their march.

What the frick is a Moslem? and what the frick are you talking about?

I think most people expect these topics to have a link to some source material. Or at least be somewhat coherent.

No. I would say the British occupation of Muslim nations is considerably more insulting.

A lot of people protest the war. It would be a bit off to do it while there are funerals going on though.

why is "Irish Paddy" concerned what the English think? In my opinion i was insulted by English People refering to me as 'Paddy' when i was there ... Let the Moslems do their thing... why should the english be allowed land their army planes and march their 'decorated' dead up and down the 'moslem' streets in the UK... multi-cultural my @55!

You were nearly funny there. Moslem is an acceptable spelling of Muslim.

I agree with the OP. It is an insult, and is the testing of the tolerance of English society in a very distateful fashion.

How about we march the English and American dead along the route to Mecca?

They are spitting on the deceased who died for their country. Most Muslims get easily offended if any negativity is thrown in their direction. This particular Muslim is no more than a scumbag.

Distasteful and downright stupid. Surely they know they are delivering Christmas, Easter and everything else in one go to the BNP? But then, they quite possibly do.

There is a near universal tradition in any kind of conflict that respect be shown to the soldiers on either side who have fallen. That the names Fred Phelps and Micheal Stone come to mind when I consider those who baulk at this tradition doesn't reflect well on those that organised this protest.

    Not according to Wiki.
So the OP has insulted the Muslims with his spelling and us with his punctuation.
    Wiki wrote:
The ordinary word in English is "Muslim", pronounced /'mʊs.lɪm/ or /'mʌz.ləm/. The word is pronounced /'mʊslɪm/ in Arabic. It is sometimes transliterated "Moslem", an older, possibly Persian-based spelling, which some regard as offensive.

They died in the name of their rulers, most English people I know are completely against British occupation of Afghanistan

To say they died for their country romanticizes the whole thing.. would they have died if no British soldiers were sent their in the first place, or would their 'freedoms and liberties' be endangered?

Sounds a bit American to me

Most English and Welsh I know fully support it. We must move in different circles. You are getting onto the subject of why the invasion happened, which is off topic.

Do you agree or not that it is insulting to the dead soldiers?

I don't agree that it is an insult. If it was a group of English anti-war protesters would it still be as big of an insult?

I don't necessarily think that it's not distasteful to protest like that though

And supporting a war is supporting the death of young soldiers.. so it's vaguely hypocritical to lambaste those that want to prolong the lives of the people been protected by those who got them killed in the first place

I think you miss the point. It is the location of the protest and not the fact of it than some find objectionable.
And supporting a war is supporting the death of young soldiers
Happily such quaint hippy notions weren't widespread in the Europe of the 1930s.

Obviously it's there right to protest, but to act like this isn't an intentional attempt at provocation by those doing the protesting is to put one's head in the sand simply because you disagree with the Iraq War.

One can see this possbily ending in violence, something that will be partially on the heads of those who organised and partake in the march.

You are simplising the reasons of a very complex war... wrongly!

The war doesn't support the death of young soldiers. No one is forcing young lads into the army - there's no conscription, and it's a welfare state, so even Michael Moore wouldn't be able to find fault.

You are making out anti-war protesters out to be some sort of altruistic bunch who are trying to save soldiers from themselves. And since the soldiers are going over there, coming back, and still going out next time round, I'm guessing they have a far better idea of whats going on over there.

Hell, they might even see that they are making a difference!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,081 ✭✭✭sheesh

I think its kind of insulting, the reason being is that they are protesting in the town because of the way they honour dead british soldiers as they pass through their town - that is the only reason that they want to stage the protest there. the people in town have very little say in how the war is run. the appropriate place for a demonstration like this is outside downing street or the houses of parliment

bringing a large protest like the one suggested (500 coffins) looks like blaming the people of the town for the war.

Fact is british muslims should be protesting against the war but it should be as british as possible. they should turn up in cricket gear or wearing football jerseys carrying signs that read 'down with this sort of thing!' :D

The Muslims as a group aren't. Anjem Choudary and the other organisers of this are. Despite how much I disagree with Choudary's views to have Britain and Ireland submit to Islamic law (which he voiced in UCD and in Trinity during debates), I don't disagree with his right to freedom of speech. I'd like to hope that most don't share his views.

The OP is referring to the Islam4UK march through Wootton Bassett.
    More info here

We shouldn't be in Afghanistan, nearly everyone I know would agree with that.

There are many, many extremists/fundamentalists (on both sides) in this country. Muslim extremism is amazingly rife in Birmingham especially; to be quite honest, no one takes any notice of it.

I live down the road from an army barracks (from which, two soldiers were shot by the IRA). Anytime I pass it, it makes me sick to be British. Though I believe everyone should have dignity in being laid to rest; people should be free to air their views. The men wouldn't have died were it not for the war. I think it's perfectly acceptable to voice one's opinions at the cause of their death after they've died.

That was rambling, I know what I mean

I have been to Afghanistan for while and the majority ill say 95% were dam happy to see the English and American soliders come to there country. Very happy indeed.

Its far from pointless war when there country was been overrun by terror and aggression for no reason on the women and young especially. Al-Qaeda needed to be shifted for many reasons but most of all to save the lifes of the innocent, of the people who cant defend themselves in this war stricken country.

Let me tell you if the soliders do leave this country it will be in a sorry state. The problem with this demonstration will be most these people wont be from Afghanistan (actually I say maybe everyone) and they dont understand what goes on in there country.

The way the US and UK started all this may been wrong but from experience I am glad they are there and the world is better place for them there. The ordinary person living in Afghanistan will say same.
