On my Dell C610, there's a (hardware) button, marked "i", just to the right of the power button, and above the scroll-lock light.
Does anybody know what it's for? I've pressed it on several occasions, and nothing I could detect ever happened

    :(

It's an old "Internet" button for launching Internet Explorer, probably doesn't work unless the required software is installed (which I assume is gone because your probably now have XP on the machine instead of NT or 98). Some software can let you customise these hotkeys.

    * (1) Press this button to launch the Dell™ Solution Center, where you can find support and tools that Dell has installed on your computer.
    * (2) Press this button to launch your default Internet browser.
    * (3) Press this button to launch www.dell.com, or reprogram the button to launch a program of your choice.
    * (4) Press this button to open your default e-mail program, or reprogram the button to launch a program of your choice.

PS: That is an old laptop, might be time for an upgrade where the I button turns on the wireless :)

Only when I'm looking for the ANY key !

The machine is perfectly adequate for my needs, tho it would be nice to have usb2 ports built-in, I have a PCMCIA card for that
It has a "Designed for XP" sticker on it

Thanks for your help anyway !
