Quick one: has anyone done these classes or know anyone who has? Any good? I'll probably give them a try to find out but just in the event that anyone has tried them and found them to be terrible or dodgy I'd appreciate a heads up!

I completed the first 2 terms with them in the CHQ building. I thought the classes were excellent to be honest. The instructors were great and if you miss a class there is no problem joining in another class that week, which I found handy with working late some evenings. I've tried Pilates in the past and found it too easy but I got a great workout in these classes and will definitely be back for the next term.

They are currently fitting out a new studio in CHQ and I believe they should be ready to open again in 2 weeks, I'm sure all the info is on their website.....

I'm a guy and it was great to see a few lads in the class!

Hi SueWho - yes I did two course there in '09 (one on a Tuesday and another on a Thursday) - each with two different teachers and I would highly recommend the facilities and teachers in each case.

Some of the classes used small equipment (balls and/ or resistance bands) which I hadn't used before and they really make it a very good workout.

I also found that they are very flexible i.e. if you miss a class you can generally make it up and choose from a different class on either of the 3 days (tues, wed or thurs).

I know they are also planning to progress people through different levels (beginner, inter, advanced etc.) so I'm looking at it as a long term activity and I plan on signing up again for another course there asap (to work off my xmas excesses!)

    Thanks,

    Les

That's great to hear. I contacted them and they said the classes start back Jan 25th so I think I'll join the Mon night beginners class and see how I get on.

I had heard before that when it comes to pilates, yoga etc that there are a lot of just ok classes and teachers out there, that it can be hit or miss really. But thanks for the info!

I'd agree with the posters above, I did a course there before christmas and found them very good.

I see from their website that they are also offering courses (and good rates) in the Maldron in Grand Canal Dock aswell (www.pilatesgcd.com).

Just thought I'd add that in case anyone's interested! R

Hi, I did one of the course there, found it really good.
The male teacher is really hot so it passes the time :p but the female teacher is a better teacher I though TBH. The times suited me and they're really flexible with if you miss a class. Might see u there in on the 25th!

    Enjoy!

    Hi guys,

My new years resolution is to try something new so I'm thinking about giving this a go. I've never done Pilates before... can anyone give me an idea of how intense or other it is for someone pretty unfit?!? I have some serious toning to do so I'm thinking I might combine the gym and Pilates, I'd be hoping for a noticeable difference in 8 weeks (does this sound like what everyone says in early January?!?!)... is this realistic though, 8 weeks of beginners Pilates?

    Thanks :)

Hi FT, Sorry but that's not going to happen! I'm in the same boat - in serious need of toning.
I really enjoy Pilates and I've done a few session but never noticed much of a difference. I'd say if you did it along with something else, that's what I'm planning on doing. I'm going to try Pilates and Curves and hopefully something is going to work!!!

    Good Luck!

Total newb at pilates, doing this on a Mon and Wed (beginners classes). I presume they have showers there?

If anybody has done these classes is there much of a difference between beginner and intermediate?

I had a feeling it might not be enough alright!!! I'm going to start gymming too, I'm very determined to lose at least a stone by Paddy's Day so hopefully it won't be too much like hell if I up the exercise!! Think I'll do the Monday class in CHQ, I'd do Wednesday too except it's probably just a repeat of Monday, and I wonder how big the gap between beginner and intermediate is, as 20 beginners classes might be a waste of time!!

You will need to do some cardio work as well as your Pilates. When starting out Pilates initially the movements will be slow and controlled - more about quality of movement than quantity. So make sure you get some walking/running/swimming or whatever in as well to get the heart rate up to burn calories. Combining both will give you much better/faster results.
