Okay, I read once about a study done where they asked a bunch of Olympic level athletes something along the lines of the following:

"We can give you a magic pill, and you'd wake up tomorrow morning as the best athlete in the world, completely unchallengeable in your field. If you take this pill, you'll be amazingly successful and famous, and have all the success that is possible in your sport.

The side affect is, that you die after four years. Will you take this pill..."

It's a hypothetical question obviously, but the result.. Over half the athletes said they'd take it, no hesitation.

So, answer accordingly, and state what and why you chose...

(Note: This can be in any sport. Bodybuilding, MMA, Pro Wrestling, Football etc... Also, you get the physique of your dreams to match!)

Are you talking about creatine?, cause I was listening to Joe Duffy the other day...

I don't think I'll be needing a magic pill, tbh.

They probably be pretty pissed off to hear that 50% of guys took it, seeing as they'd all be joint-best in the world

Regardless of the 4 year death sentence i wouldn't take it. I have no desire to be famous and seeing my gains after the hard work i put in is the reason i love bodybuilding and what still drives me towards looking forward to my next session. I love the control i have over it. Without that control it would become just another monotonous activity for me. Such as taking a piss.

If I was in my 80's I'd take it...

Well things people's perspectives change with age and experience.

When I was in my early 20's four years would have seemed a life time away, I was also doing a lot of serious vitamin S, including GH & slin and honestly I'd have probably said "yes" too.

Now I'm 43, a secure job & family (and all the commitments which go along with both), I'm also heavily involved in a sport which is tested and my perception of four years is a lot different than it was when I was in my mad 20's so these days I'd obviously say "No".

Well just taking that down a step.

If you took the top ten line up of last year's Mr.O, and again a hypothetical situation, brought them back to a time when they didn't juice then got them to use the same diets & training methods they've always used, then the same guys should still place in the same positions steroid/GH & slin free.

why limit it to sports? it just shows that to be the best at something it has to become your life, it takes over, its an obsession/addiction.

I would call it 'human nature', not 'doping in sports'

altho ones purpose in life is to reproduce and at the same time try and stay alive, being the best at something elevates your status in society making you leader of the pack,
a flawed prize that seems more worthy than a long life of obscurity

taking it down a step is completely changing the question to something on a much lesser scale.

thats the problem with hypothetical questions I guess. Maybe this magic pill is like the Salmon of Knowledge or Excalibur, only 1 available!

Actually, this "study" never happened, at least in any formal sense, but its mythology lives on and on and on (and on and on), usually dragged out every couple of years or so since the 70s.

It is much quoted but the original source is only ever anecdotal. Having said that, plenty of coaches, journalists etc ask this informally and the results vary from none to all, to some, to most, to more than 50%, to less than 40%, to 85% - take your pick.

It's an interesting debate, but given it's so well known as a "shock horror" story ("oh no! athletes are prepared to die to win - quick, fix it, fix it!"), I don't imagine anyone being surveyed seriously would not already be aware of it.

Tough question but since it theorectical, yes. I would take a pill, be a legend and die in my prime. Thanks
