was looking for that myself, no mention of it, you can pick up a wireless dongle pretty cheap though, I have two from DX working perfectly.
But hey, when it pops up on the website it may have it, just not mentioned in the flyer

All recent Medion desktops have had wireless so I'd be very surprised if this one didn't.

with a top of the range graphics card thats pretty much an awesome machine.
whats the card that comes with it ?

    G210, link is to a 210

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,056 ✭✭✭Tragedy

    If I'm remembering the leaflet correctly, it's a 512mb G210.

Costs about $35 in the states, basically worthless for gaming(Think ~8fps in Far Cry 2 at 1280*1024 and medium settings)

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 18,381 Mod ✭✭✭✭Solitaire

Guess the PSU spec is more relevant then ;)

Still, I doubt a GT240/HD4770/HD5750 would cane even a naff PSU. Stick in one of those (and, if feeling cheeky, OC the CPU just a bit...) and you have a pretty strong gaming rig. €400 + cost of monitor and GPU isn't bad at all, as the ol' Windows Tax is already paid on this rig :D

The 8300 is a 2.5 quad processor, thats all you need at the moment unless you are a hardcore gamer

    http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLB5W

with 4 gig ram, 1 tb space, etc.. very very good spec for that price.

Anyone interested in gaming can throw an ATI 4670 into this for nice gaming

or a 4770, 5750 or 5770 for progressively much better gaming

all have low power draw and should work with the power unit.

    Gorgeous Graphics

If you want to play popular mainstream games like World of Warcraft, Spore or Sims3, the GeForce 210 is an essential addition to your PC.

lol, not exactly the most graphic intensive games out there is it. WOW can run on integrated graphics.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,056 ✭✭✭Tragedy

It won't run any of those games at decent resolutions.

Also, a 4670/4770/5750 aren't worth it, if you want to game on it: get a 4870 or 5770.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭IsaBrown

Anyone know if the hardware is osx compatible

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,888 ✭✭✭Rsaeire

This is a good deal, given the CPU and HDD.

I would have loved if ALDI had a similar system, but with a small HDD, integrated graphics and no peripherals, as the price would have been a lot cheaper and I could have upgraded the graphics and HDD myself.

    Odd comment.

This is not an enthusiast PC, it has a weak power supply. A 4870 uses up too much power. Which is why I recommended cards which do not use much power, e.g. 4770 or 5750, which, when coupled with a 8300 quad can run almost every game out there with good framerates at 1680 x 1050 resolution (thats a 22 inch monitor).

If, however, you make up the 0.05% of people who play games on 2560 x 1600, and are a complete enthusiast, then why you'd be buying this PC in the first place is beyond me.

theres a scan of the ad from the aldi leaflet from the UK here which is almost definately going to be the same.

The make a big deal about the LAN in the ad, and no mention of wireless, so I'd say surprisingly there is no wireless adapter.

5 page thread on HUKD about this (£350 in UK) http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/572480/medion-akoya-pc-x7330-d?

Odd comment? Saying it has a weak power supply when you don't even know what power supply it has is an odd comment(and fwiw, 4870's can run on good 400w PSU's).

Saying it isn't an enthusiast PC is an odd comment too, many people play games on PC, it has nothing to do with being an enthusiast.

A 4770 and 5750 will struggly to run a good few of todays games at an acceptable framerate @ 1680*1050 and decent graphics settings, nevermind games in the pipeline. If you're looking to buy a graphics card for this PC, why would you spend dead money?

Also, why would anyone buy a 22" monitor with as low a resolution as 1680*1050? That's almost as ridiculous as saying someone who buys a 4870 is an enthusiast and 0.05% of the population, while buying a 5770(which is actually more expensive) makes them normal and smart.

    Very odd comments.

As to the other posts: This is an excellent general purpose PC, very good specs and great for the price - to buy the same elsewhere you're talking a minimum of €600, if you're lucky.

I would perhaps run an ATI 4870 on a corsair, seasonic, etc 400 watt quality brand of PSU, but these aldi PC's use extremely cheapy 250 to 350 watt PSU's with awful power efficiency, they barely have enough power on the 12v to run stronger cards.
Saying it isn't an enthusiast PC is an odd comment too, many people play games on PC, it has nothing to do with being an enthusiast.

Most people can't honestly tell the difference between 25 fps and 60 fps, between 1280 and 1900 res, its extraordinary how many people I've sold PCs to happily play the latest games on 8600gts, etc. A PC like this would be fine for them, just add one of the graphics cards I listed if you wanna get decent smooth gameplay. Unless you're an enthusiast with a big 26 inch monitor or whatever.
A 4770 and 5750 will struggly to run a good few of todays games at an acceptable framerate @ 1680*1050 and decent graphics settings, nevermind games in the pipeline. If you're looking to buy a graphics card for this PC, why would you spend dead money?

I think thats exaggerating it a wee bit, for instance a 5750 is about 12 % slower than a 4870, yet draws about a third the power. Its perfectly fine for gaming anything up to a 22 inch monitor.. sure, what is it, only about 5% of gamers use anything bigger than a 22 inch? However, yes you are right, if you are a gaming enthusiast and notice the difference between 60 fps and 70 fps, you should maybe get a 4870, but I wouldn't run one of those power hungry cards on one of these machines without upgrading the PSU first.

    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_5750_iCooler_IV/28.html

Also, why would anyone buy a 22" monitor with as low a resolution as 1680*1050? That's almost as ridiculous as saying someone who buys a 4870 is an enthusiast and 0.05% of the population, while buying a 5770(which is actually more expensive) makes them normal and smart.

Most people I know just wanna play the latest call of duty, or crysis or dragon age, half of them barely know what size their monitor is, let alone what the res is, if you are that kinda person, then you could slip a low power draw 80 euro graphics card into this machine and it'd be grand.

Strangely enough I've been using the slowest card I mentioned, a 4670, with a dual core processor, much less ram, for a couple of weeks now and it plays all the latest games no hassle on a 22 inch :)

and I am an enthusiast ;)

Anyway enough battle o the nerds.. its seems to be a good bargain PC.

It would be perfect for Photoshop & Quark. More than enough power for either - even for fairly huge PS files there wouldn;t be an issue.

Plus, the Quad Core will help render with PS, and 4GB ram is plenty, and 1TB storage should be more than enough for quite a while.

seems more like a media centre type machine than a gaming machine to me, plenty of storage, a decent graphics card with HDMI out and 4 gig of ram, plus card reader and plenty of usb ports.

Well it would definitely come with a licence, so you'd only have to download it or borrow a copy - as you'd have your own key. But I'd say it would come with an OEM disk.

Kingaa - it looks like a decent media centre machine, but its very upgradable in fairness. The only thing its lacking for decent gaming is a more powerful vid car - €100 card would have you gaming quite happily on that machine. (of course, if the PSU was ok)

Does this issue with the PSU only apply to people who want to game or is it a potential problem all round?

I'm sure the PSU is perfectly fine for the hardware that comes inside the case, and maybe a low end vid card.

However, should you wish to put a decent GPU in there HD4xxx / GTX250 and up, you'd be wanting to swap out that PSU.

Now saying that, we don;t actually know what PSU comes inside the case - but usually OEM brand PC's come with really crappy PSU's.

Unless you plan to upgrade part of the pc then the psu will be absolutely fine.

The only thing about cheap psu's is their poor energy efficiency, sometimes noise and eventual breakdown. Medion do have good warranties though.
If i wanted a desktop to do regular surfing, the occasional movie and word processing I could spend less...

Albeit the price difference would be small and then you look at the 1tb hard-drive, 4gigs of ram and quad-core cpu this medion is a great deal. Even if you don't need the extra's

Must have been an old card!

You should be able to get a second hand 9800GT/8800GT or HD4850 for around the €80 mark.

Actually, even new you can get decent enough GFX cards for around that

    9800GT €84

What about for HDV video editing using Adobe CS3/ Cs4?

Would it be ok? I know ok is relative but what Id be hoping for is news that this would handle my HD footage the way my dual core handles SD footage. Too much to ask?
