Very Good Show. All RTÉ have is a repeat of Tommy and Hector.

What's with Jimmy Carr's weird annoying new laugh - I was watching some of the repeats of the previous years earlier in the week, and he seems to have just developed it in the last 12 months?

The difference between Irish and British comedy talent is staggering, Neil "cant read a teleprompter to save his life" Delamare, the human potato sack Maeve Higgins and a raging muck savage in Hector, this has Charlie Brooker, Russell Brand, David Mitchell, Jimmy Carr and Rob Brydon on the one show

I remember someone saying pretty much that a year or so ago. Watch 4 year old episodes of 8 Out of 10 cats and it's there.

Yes ,I noticed that myself, its a very weird laugh.

Staggering, the difference is the later are actually funny while the former are unfunny yet think they are hilarious.

I'm not loving it this year... Also Charlie Brooker is really grating on me and I usually love him

Bar Jimmy Carr braying like a donkey every 5minutes i am enjoying it but after watching the repeats over the last few nights im not sure if its as funny as it has been in previous years..

Jimmy Carr's laugh is one of the funniest things about this.

They spent about 10 minutes on it!

    Charlie Brooker's awfully quiet.

Not sure why but that David Mitchell chap gives me the irrits. Everything about him especially his accent just bugs me. :)

    Orange pilled.

Not as good as previous years, but still very enjoyable. Noticed Jimmy's laugh, so glad they commented on it. I definitely don't remember him laughing like that before. Brydon and Brand were the funniest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Ah.. it was superb. Not as good as other years? I'm just re-watching last year's where the panelists include Michael McIntyre, Davinia McCall and Claudia Winkleman. F*ck off.. this year was absolutely amazing compared to it!

Brooker was absolutely terrible though.. christ, did he not switch his mic on? He commented once every 20 minutes. Awful. Winkleman wasn't much better, but at least she conversed.

Brand and Ross were great as you'd expect. Brand is still one of the most on-the-ball comedians out there - funny and very clever!

Brydon was superb as usual - he's at his most comfortable in "The Big Fat Quiz's" and he's brillant in them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭ShoulderChip

I loved it, Brand is so so sharp, the quickest wit I have ever seen I think

I love Mitchell but the way tonights show went didn't really suit him

Ross was very good at what he does, not as clever but carries the show and other comedians very well.

Brydon as always was great too, he works well with other 'younger' comedians to bounce off

I thought it was very good.
    Very funny!

Gotta say though, 2006 was the funniest ever.

    Really enjoyed that

brand and Ross really were a great team and loved the way they took the piss out of prank phone call thing

Is Charlie Brooker supposed to be funny, very quiet, barely said a word

Normally he's very good... maybe he just wasn't in his comfort zone. His panel show was fairly woeful too!

The mute on David Mitchell's (outta Peep Show) team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

Charlie Brooker should really stop appearing on Channel 4 programmes, they really don't seem to understand his shtick

He doesn't really interact well with others...

Russell Brand and Rob Brydon were definitely the best, Brand especially was on fire. Overall though I thought it was quite dull.

He's much better at the prescripted ranting he does on screenwipe and the like, he doesnt seem as the most quick witted guy, very very funny but hes a script comedian, Brand on the other hand is razor sharp when it comes to making a situation even funnier

Definitely agree with you there. He's never claimed to be a TV presenter or comedian, he's a writer. I can't understand why Channel 4 don't get that about him.

Still don't remember seeing him on the show. :)

It was pretty good. Charlie Brooker is more of an introvert so it's not surprising he finds it difficult to express himself around extroverted characters like Brand and Ross.

They probably should have gone for someone like Frankie Boyle alongside David Mitchell.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,316 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

Hate Russell Brand, Brooker was poor, Winkelman desperate.
Delighted Mitchell didn't give in and dance. :)

The best one I remember from previous years Brydon and Mitchell were together and they got in to a huff over the scoring as they really really wanted to win. It was hillarious. Not sure which year that was.

Are you sure it wasn't Brydon and David Walliams? He had a hissy fit in 2006 cos Jimmy Carr gave Russell and Noel Fielding 25(ish) points

Was it not David Walliams getting into a strop? Or maybe its happened more than one year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yeah.. remember that. Definitely Walliams and Brydon.

Fielding and Brand took the piss with their answers for the entire show.. it was hilarious!

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Actually, it could very well have been Walliams alright. Definitely Brydon was the driving force of the huffiness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭ashyle

Thought it was a good one and I was able to answer most of the questions :)
Poor David looked genuinely uncomfortable when they were making him dance..Aw :o
    Rob Brydon was very good.
Love that Russell Brand still does the CH4 stuff, even though he's all taking over America.
Although, best year was when Noel Fielding and Russell Brand were on the same team.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.. but were they on the same team more than one year running? I'm convinced of it.. think it was 2006 and 2007.

oh yeah Basquille you're right, but the first time they were on same team was the funniest I meant!!

Nope, Walliams was the chief moaner

    "I SWAM THE CHANNEL!"

Basq: Yep, Noel and Russell were together the following year as well.

Brydon was excellent as usual tonight. 2006 still my favourite though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,711 ✭✭✭Hrududu

The first year that Brand and Fielding were on the same team was my favourite. David Walliams got so annoyed when they got all those points at the end. Brydon was complaining too but Walliams genuinely looked put out.

There is usually one team that takes it too seriously, and that team usually includes Rob Brydon or David Mitchell.

I thought Ross's dig at Mitchell about losing his virginitiy seemed a bit harsh. I was glad he didn't give in and dance at the end.

Walliams was hilarious, I totally understood were he was comin from, I'm like that at board games/pub quizzes/singstar... Oh gosh I can be very rule booky :o

I hate Walliams so much. Don't think I've seen him ever go more than 5 minutes without putting on a stupid voice at some point.

Wouldnt be a fan of him either. Just wanna punch him.

They are always good fun shows..

Though I did miss 'The Big Fat Anniversary Quiz' broadcast on Channel 4's 25th Anniversary, although the panelists aren't exactly inspiring (but Richard Ayoade & David Mitchell would be good)!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

I remember seeing that, it was quite good actually! Richard Ayoade and David Mitchell were brilliant.

I'd say it was better than this year's BFQTY, but not as good as the 2006 one obviously

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Will give it a watch tomorrow.. found it on an old "VHS tape"!

EDIT: It'll always be hard to live up to 2006's edition.. but this year was certainly better than last year's (which I just re-watched after recording it last night. Other than Sean Lock and Dara O Briain, it was very forgettable!)
