Things that were taken before their time

Sometimes companies do strange things...they make me wonder whether I'm the only one that was purchasing their products, I mean, I must have been because why else would they unceremoniously take the things off the shelves.

Let me give you some examples.

There's a company that makes stir fry sauces, I think their called Dragon something...you know the ones...different sachets in different colours. They used to make a honey and corainder one which was perfect for my duck dishes...people used to think I made the sauce, which of course I didn't argue with. I should have been suspicious then, they obviously weren't buying it themselves cause they would have known it wasn't my concoction...they weren't....nobody was buying it, except for me. And it became no more.

Lynx...that company that make deodorant sprays that don't work very well...Back in 1993, I started hanging around with girls and there was one thing they loved about me more than anything else...how I smelt. Lynx made a sex spray called Tempest back in the day. The very mention of the name Lynx tempest would have the other 13 year old girls quavering in their little pink ribboned knickers. One girl even asked me to spray some on some tissue and give it to her to get through the day...I was then told it wasn't the same...wasn't the same without being mixed with my one body smell. I had my whole life ahead of me, and it smelt great. And then Lynx, the bastids, took it from me. They took this magic potion off the shelves.

I'll only touch on this one for a second cause it's mentioned elsewhere on this forum...but God knows what cadburys were up to when they sat down at their annual pre-christmas roses meeting. God must also only know why they got rid of the bournvilles...or changed the cute shape of the dairy milk...it's like a mini bar!!!! But then...they introduced some cool new additions...the wine one with the crispy bits...the orange one with the crispy bits....lovely!!! Then they got rid of them! A few years ago the got rid of the strawberry one...the creme de la creme...and apparently public demand brought it back...(The strawberry one divides households like the civil war did...but i love em...In fact I take place in an exchange program with another household...we swap the tins with the dregs left in them...the barrels are the dregs in my house...the strawberries are the dregs in theres) To sum up, stop fcuking with it cadburies....if it's not broke, just leave it to hell alone. And cadburies, while we're at it...bring back Vice Versas...thanks.

That's it for now, I've got a lot more but I'm aware that many people on this forum are not fans of reading beyond the first paragraph...

And the 'Dream' (white chocolate) and 'Time Out' in Cadbury Heroes... they're not worth buying anymore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

I wish they'd sell Lucky Charms in Ireland again (I mean properly, not some prick importing them and selling them for a tenner a box)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,178 ✭✭✭✭NothingMan

Does anyone remember Secret bars? They were a thin wispy chocolate full of cream. Kind of like a walnut whip in a bar without the nut.

They were in a gold wrapper with a piece of cardboard stopping it from breaking.

    Hmm...

    Top Deck
    Snow Flake
    HB Cool Bits
Flipz (Chocolate flavored pretzel things that you can only get from the US now)

Bloody huge +1 for the Coconut Crumble Cream things from Duness. They were utterly epic! :(

You can get them in Dundrum cinema. Not sure of the brand though! Definitely not flipz. They're more chocolatey.

Oh, Sky Ice Creams. They had like a whole Aero in the middle of the ice cream.

Definitely agree with the Nestle Secret bars, delicious.

Neurofen have recently stopped making meltlets :( I now either have to swallow stupid whole tablets, or use the children's lower-content version.

First there was lucky charms, which were great. They stopped being sold here, some time passes and there is Hot Krumbly (cereal again if that wasn't obvious). I only recently found someone else who had even heard of them, many years went between them being gone and me finding anyone even familiar with them.

Ok, I agree about the top decks.

    Let's do something about it.

    Fizzle Sticks (Instant High)
    Maltesers (original formula)
Texan bar (Remember the chocolate used to break off when you bit into it)
Wibbly Wobbly Wonder (original - that jelly stuff they have on top now is rancid)

Oh, and just so ye don't think I'm obsessed with sweeties...

    Concorde

    Dan Bars are still about,

i had one a few weeks ago for the memories, not as much of the black toppings and not as long as they used to be,

but still delicous - but as always not recommended if you have any dodgy teeth or filings, unless you want them out!

    Bring back Smiley bars!!!
