Its kind of an 'instant hardware interface' for programmers who don't understand AD Converters and IO ports.

I came across it, never heard of it before looks interesting i know nothing about them so i ordered a starter kit form the US i might have some fun tinkering around with it

Just re-read my reply and it sounds like I'm putting it down - absolutely not, it's a great way to get started with firmware development.

I would love to attend one of your meeting but i think you guys are way out of my league my knowledge on micro-controllers and software development on a scale of 1,to 10 would be only 1 maybe -1.
Perhaps when i revive the Arduino board i will call in and someone can tell me a little about it.

hi guys, I really want to get started with Arduino, but I'm not sure which kit to get. my Dad has always played around with electric boards and circuits and that (many moons ago, he was one of the main repairmen for Peats) and I wanna start myself.

I've comprised a few links to sellers in the UK and would like one of you knowledgeable folk to recommend which offers the best value, or even if this is the best way to go. I've no idea really what I'd like to develop, but I'm a C++ programmer by trade so I'd hope I'd be able to start a few interesting things.

the prices range from £42 to £70 and I wouldn't mind spending that much on it, so long as I know it's the best starter kit among them.

I received my Arduino board today from Adafruit Industries in New York
$80 including p+p, in the box was.

• Arduino Duemilanove w/Atmega328 - The latest and greatest Arduino revision, assembled and ready to go, including 4 rubber feet
• 3' USB cable - Perfect for connecting your Arduino to a computer
• Protoshield Kit - One of my designs, its got everything you need to make prototype designs using an Arduino. Note that this comes unassembled
• Tiny Breadboard - Fits on top of the protoshield, easy to use
• 9V DC regulated wall adapter - You can power your Arduino from any wall socket. This switching regulator is efficient and small and works with US (110V) and European (220V) power.
• 9V Battery case with switch and a 2.1mm plug- so you can power your arduino using a 9V battery. This case is much sturdier than just a battery clip and it has an on/off switch too! Note that this comes unassembled

I'm good with eletronics, but my programming talents are lacking.

I was wondering if there was some way to install one into a RC plane myself
i was into RC planes myself for about 20 years but i don't do it any more,mainly quarter scale i have a few Dave Bonington spitfires with 30cc tiger engines and Mick Reive quarter scale Hurricanes and a bundle of other planes.I miss the smell of the glow fuel .
Ps my programming skills are less than lacking so join the club i haven't even brought the arduino board to life yet

Same as myself, I started building DB models about 20years ago. Everything is alot cheaper (and better) now.

crazy thing is, they don't deliver to Ireland. but do you know who will? their American subsidiary and all in all, including the shipping, at $100 (€70) has probably worked out cheaper

only problem is, it's on backorder there, they say they expect to have it in this week. I probably won't see it for a month or so, will just have to wait and see.

I will drop in to one of those tog meetings at some stage in the future, I'd say.

I brought my arduino to life,got it to blink an LED every second,i know its only a simple thing i did but one small step leads to bigger ones,it appears it wont work on windows 7 so i hooked it to my laptop with vista and hey presto it worked,now onto more things.

I would like to attend your beginners Arduino programming class;
I don't know a thing about Arduino and my knowledge of electronics is very little but i like to tinker around with them.I got an Arduino and love to know more about them,can anyone attend or do they have to know about electronics and programming

I just got mine today and tried the solutions here to get it working in W7, no joy here. Can anyone even get as far as getting the USB driver installed? When I plug mine in all iget is the green light staying on and the red power light flashing on and off. No sign of windows Plug and play to kick in and it doesn't show up in device manager.



Edit : Turns out this was a plug and play problem that a windows update fixed. I have this working perfect now on Windows 7 (Home edition, 32 bit).

not to worry. yeah, that kit is great as a starter and there's loads of info about what you can do with it online. I haven't put in as much time as I would have wanted into it at this stage, but anything that I have tried to do, I've had the stuff in the kit to do it. I dunno whether you think the price is too much, or whatever, but for me considering the prices of all the kits, it seems a very good deal and I'm quite happy with it.

Yeah it seems like a good kit alright. I was considering get one from the make magazine stor but it didnt have good reviews on it so im looking else where at the moment. Is the programming easy to get a grasp of?
