It does take some getting use to. Played the PS3 version for the first time yesterday and could not get a kill. My tumbs kept hitting each other?
After an hour or two I finally got the hang of it. Its very good and I want a PS3 now. Had to change the controller settings.

It does take a while to move over to the joypad, but you will get the knack.Would recommend play it on singleplayer first for practise.

    Stil prefer mouse/keyboard myself

I think its experience really, the only console controller thats ever been in my hands on a regular occasion is the Playstations and since they haven't changed since the PS1 I'm well used to it.

As some of the lads said I couldn't imagine myself using a mouse or keyboard to play FPS, its impossible.

As been said just keep using it and after an hour or so your thumbs will get used to the position/feel of the buttons.

same as that, the ps controller is perfection, thats why they've never needed to change its design in 15 years,
you'll get the hang of it, then i suspect you may get a copy one for the pc and be forever converted !!:pac:

I think the mouse/keyboard vs joypad has been done to death!Personaly I started playing FPS's on a pc so after over 20 years of using the mouse/keyboard thats the control method that I prefer.Found the joypad awkward at first but soon got used to it.

Dont give up OP you will soon get a normal death ratio:)

Well i've been using keyboard and mouse since Rainbox 6 lol.. This is the 1st time ever playing a FPS on a console.... So of course i'm bias towards the PC.. Highest kills in the PS3 game so far is 7 !!! and i dont mean kill streak lol.. total kills in a game,,, I'm like a drunk in a bar fight when trying to look straigh lol.. I'll keep going at it tho..

I have to say tho i did sneak back to the PC last night just to make myself feel better lol.

Xbox controller is better imo. Had the PS1 and 2 but found the Xbox controller much more comfortable and easier to use. Especially for shooters.

With just the 2 trigger buttons I imagine it would be. But I am so used to PS3 now it's horses for courses.

Can't agree. I have both and the ps3 controller is more comfortable and accurate. The sticks move more freely so they're a lot faster too.

And besides, the xbox controller is just the ps3 controller with the left stick moved to make it seem different.

I was like that when I got COD4, easiest way around it is to hide a bit more often rather than rush into the action spots.

If your looking for a game add me : jonnycivic

god played cod4 on a pc the other day, couldnt do anything. so hard to quickly crouch, straif i got like 3 kills in a game ill stick with ps3 and xbox, actually find xbox one better than ps3. ps3 needs those little dips at top of analog sticks, they can be slippy

i got cod4 back at halloween for ps3 and it wrecked my head, the only other game i really played before that was gta4 and i was brilliant at it online to then start another game and be total ****e was a bit annoying but i perservered and im now above average id say.

also seen some people talkin about the best controller

the best by far had to be the one for the N64

I can't understand how ppl play fps without a controller! Mental!

Xbox controller is much better than PS3 which seems flimsy and cheap almost!

Its like learning something new tbh, you just need to practice...

I played FPS games on the PC for years and always steered clear of FPS games on the PS. I don't have the patience or interest to keep upgrading my rig every year to cope with new games coming out so I switched to PS3.

MW2 is the first game I have played online and I was cack to begin with but I'm getting better all the time...

Just stick with it and try to improve...

Getting better! I think the main thing is to familiarise yourself with the maps!.
After a couple hours of that, despite the headaches, eye strain and tourettes you should find yourself getting better .. (gradually, not exponentially! ;) ) Enjoy!

Yeah you really need to be familiar with the maps as most people you will be playing against will be playing them since launch.

Main thing is to just persevere with the controller for a couple of days and things will get easier. I was the same when I got the PS3. Trying to play and aim with the controller compared to the freedom of a mouse/keyboard was really tough and frustrating. There's only one FPS on the PS3 that'll let you play with mouse/keyboard and it's UT3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,356 ✭✭✭NeVeR

Welll Wellll... i have to bring this back... As since i posted this I've played the PS3 verison on and off... But now I cant put it down.. I'm always getting in the top 3 with kills.. I like it alot more then the PC :) plus it's alot faster on load times as well.

Just have to work my way back up the levels now.

Your not wrong, I can play ok on the PC but on the PS3 I'm hopeless. Got mine for christmas 2009.

I have NEVER been able to kill anyone!

Maybe I'm too old to get the hang of the PS3 setup.

Toggles are hard to operate, maybe I need to find out if the toggles can be calibrated, as they're so sensitive.

    Just call me victim.:D
