What's the story with the amount of early bird tickets? Is there only a certain number of them or are they on sale until a certain date?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,791 ✭✭✭electrogrimey

Went the last two years and last year was a big let down for me, it paled in comparison to the year before. The acts were great, but the atmosphere was completely lost, I might try Bestival instead this year.

Talking about EP's lineup this year, theres a facebook campaign which can be found at www.laoismusic.com to get Festival Republic to add local Laois based acts to the lineup, like they do at their other festivals across europe
If you're on Facebook maybe go join the campaign, we've already seen the power of Facebook campaigns after the Rage Against the Machine campaign at chirstmas

Not to attack what you are trying to do but do not assume that because the RATM campaign was successful that means that online petitions suddenly work. That was a scenario where a LOT of people made a difference because they could by spending money. Having some people on their own corner of the net saying "they like this" will not achieve anything on its own.

Start a letter writing campaign (real letters, not email) to various people involved with EP and you will have a much larger chance of success.

Bat For Lashes better be one of the acts scheduled to play anyway after the no show last year! I was standing front row centre and was devastated. It ruined the Saturday for me completely!

Bat for Lashes were the act i wanted to see the most last year. David Kitt came on and played another set instead which more than made up for the Bat for Lashes no show.......

Bestival is a wonderful, wonderful festival. Highly recommended, much better than EP.

any bands you would like to see?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,811 ✭✭✭xoxyx

Maybe a bit mainstream, but Orbital and 2ManyDJs were my all time outstanding acts of last year.
Although we only ended up seeing about 12 acts in all because we spent most of the time lost in the forest.
    Good times!!! :)

I reckon they need to stay away from the popular stuff/hype completely this year, go for a retro old band to attract the slightly older crowd, its all about the crowd. Crowd, weather, and then music. Obviously the music needs to be good, but not necessarily high profile!

Ide really like to see massive attack this year

PS Just got my early bird ticket yesterday whhhooooooooooooo can't Fookin wait!!!!!!!

    Fleet Foxes.

Would be nice, got my earlybird for RockNess, I havent seen Leftfield mentioned yet for any other festivals, but Id say they would play EP, it has the same audience capacity as RockNess.

March 24 will be D-Day for Electric Picnic fans with the festival announcing its initial line-up.

We’re hearing all sorts of rumours – PiL and Pavement being two of the tastier ones – so will be counting down with you!

This year’s Stradbally Hall extravaganza runs from September 4 to 6, with Early Bird tickets available for €199.

I'd put money on leftfield too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 456 ✭✭Bootsy.

Yeah, Pavement and Leftfield are highly likely it seems. Hadn't heard the PIL rumour before, that would be cool.
The Chemical Brothers are doing some UK gigs this summer, I'd love to see them again (for the 7th time!), they are a perfect festival band.

    Fingers crossed for leftfield!

Also anyone know how long the early bird tickets are on sale for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,791 ✭✭✭electrogrimey

Provisionally added for the line-up: Attention Bébé.

That means a free ticket for electrogrimey :D

    Bowie was a rumor

Still just a rumor or any way he may appear?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

Bowie would be class, was at Oxegen that year and it was a very sad moment of my life....

Nope, they're not. That was just a rumour. They haven't announced that they're doing anything at the moment, except for the Tron soundtrack.

Unbelievably unlikely Bowie will play any festival without having his own comeback tour in the bag first. After having not played in so long and with assorted health problems meaning his future touring possibilities are limited any show that he is on will have massive worldwide interest. It doesn't make any sort of sense for him to do festivals first. It will make him and the promoters less money and piss off a lot of his older fans.

Id say there is a very strong chance of Daft Punk making a come back this summer, doing the festival circuit and some of their own shows. I Know all those rumours were false but that was nearly 4 months ago. Plus you never know who creates those rumours?!? It could of been them for all we know, gettin their name back into peoples minds before an actual tour is put together! (maybe i should of posted this on the conspiracy fourm :pac:)
They've compeleted the Tron 2 score and are working on a new album so fingers crossed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 628 ✭✭✭emtroche

Just noticed that Biffy Clyro are on T in the park line up but not oxegen. Love to see them at the picnic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,294 ✭✭✭rainbowdrop

Ahh Biffy Clyro would be sweet, and I personally would love to see Black Kids added to the line up as well. And if the Leftfield rumours were true.....:D:D:eek:

Would love, love, love to see Bowie (friend saw him at Glastonbury, and said he was out of this world) but it'l never happen!!

Can't wait for the line-up to be announced!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 628 ✭✭✭emtroche

    Ian Brown maybe too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

*Insert random popular indie band here*

I think the emphasis of rock could be put more on EP this year given the early indication of the Oxegen lineup. It's very dance/hip-hop/dance orientated this year so I'd expect the likes of Editors, Ian Brown and possibly Biffy Clyro to be playing there at EP.

I'd say there's slim to no chance's they'll be playing this year. Something as huge as a Daft Punk tour, which would most likely be a world tour, would be planned much more in advance than 4 months. Also, where did hear they're working on a new album? Pretty sure they're not, that was another rumour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 882 ✭✭✭darragh16

Daft Punk are composing the score to some new film, not a new album as far as I know. Cant see them playin this year either and not in the o2 either

Saw Ian Brown at exit fest in serbia a few years back (same year he played oxegen), the man really puts on a great show.
Daft Punk would be quality too.

As much as I love EP. I think the standard of acts has been slipping over the last few years. I'm kinda pessimistic about the kind of acts they're going to announce this year.

Or you could think of the Picnic as being half full, and hope that the new organisers will learn from the mistakes last year and make it less MCD like, and bring it back to how it was before that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

There's new organisers? Have they said anything about bringing it in a different direction?
