You can get decent dumbbell/barbell sets in Argos that aren't too bad for about €40.

Here's one that'd be good for a beginner:

With all due respects, but the majority of folks will grow out of 25kg weight really quickly. I really think this is false economy.

Plus Vinyl weights are not that great once you go up in the weight you can lift, as they are so thick, so you cannot get as much weight on a bar as you can with steel weights.

The other thing about Olympic weights is that they will hold their resale value. So if you stop using them and want to sell them, you will make most of your money back. You will find it very hard to sell vinyl weights, never mind get anything like the price you pay for them.

For the record Argos are charging €60 more then Irish Lifting for their 140kg Olympic weight set, or selling a 100kg Olympic set for the same price that Irish Lifting is charging for their 140kg set.

Of course it will depend on how serious the OP wants to get with their home equipment and of course their budget.

I'm going to buy a load of stuff from Irish Lifting, is it decent quality? I'm looking at getting this, a bench and an olympic bar wtih 140KG.

You can do pretty much everything with that setup, all the main lifts and pulls. Probably get a dip/pull belt for weighted pulls. Any thoughts?

Would Mickk do a deal for orders over 1K?

    LOL :D

No, just another joe who is into fitness and happens to have the same first name as yourself and also believes in giving credit where it is due. That's all.

There are also a lot of other boardies who give positive feed back to Irish Lifting.
