    Hi all,

I am currently looking into opening two units in Drogheda. One will be a bakery/deli that will cater to all especially people with allergies eg: coeliac disease, nut allergies, lactose intolerance etc. but also at the same time cater for everyone without allergies! The restaurant to be opened next door to the bakery/deli will be a wine bar type that will serve tapas and main meals if fancied along with great wines and beers also catering for anyone with or without allergies

At the moment what I am looking for is feedback if people would be interested in this or if I'm seriously barking up the wrong tree.

These units will be located on shop street in Drogheda. There will be catering and delivery services available also.

Looking forward to all your comments,

    LittleLil!

I don't live in Drogheda, so it's academic for me, but I would like a restaurant with well marked contents so I can pick out what foods are suitable or not for me. A list of ingredients would be good.

I love tapas type restaurants, because you can order what you want without having to fight ot get a green salad instead of the chips on the side. Also, it means you can bring children who are picky eaters and give them a portion size that suits them.

I think that it would be very difficult as those with nut allergies etc would be highly allergic to any microcontaminants, have seen a coeliac friend being incredibly ill just from a small amount of cross contamination and relatives face swelling up due to microcontamination with eggs. Allergies vary widely and I imagine that it would be almost impossible to cater for everyone.

The general tapas bar sounds lovely though.

A restaurant with good beers would go down well, just check the beer & wine forum people have complained at the woeful lack of decent beer selections.

Yes, and average portion size and break down of nutritional info. It could be on a back page, like have a main basic menu on page 1, with details further on if people want to check it out, many might not want to. Even abrakebabras have the nutritional info on pages in the place -does not make good reading though ;)

+1, I think many would be embarrassed at the thought of being refused or too shy or do not want to appear to be fussy to ask for changes. I would like low carb options, I know you (Eileen) said you throw out buns on burgers, I can't force myself to do that! I hate seeing food go to waste, but I would like low-carb options as most meals tend to come with a "side of carbs" all the time.

I was in NZ last year and it's quite common there to have cafe's selling sweet and savoury food for coeliacs.

I asked at one cafe why they cater for these groups and they said because people expect it!

I was well impressed and as someone who doesn't eat wheat (I'm not coeliac) it was great to go to a cafe and be able to have a slice of cake with coffee.
