Road (2014) - Excellent Documentary about the lives of the Dunlop Brothers.

From IMDB "Brothers addicted to speed. At any price. Motorcycle road racing is the most dangerous of all motor sports. One in which men compete at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour on closed country roads. Roads that are lined with trees, telegraph posts, stone walls. Ireland and the Isle of Man are two of the few places in the world where the sport still survives. Narrated by Liam Neeson, this is the dramatic and poignant story of two sets of brothers from Northern Ireland who have dominated road racing for over thirty years. Two generations of one family that have been united by success. And united by tragedy."

Just finished the documentary on James Randi called An Honest Liar.

I was surprised it was available as I wasn't expecting it to be released for another few months but the BBC aired it on BBC Four a small while ago retitled as Storyville Exposed: Magicians, Psychics and Frauds.

Very entertaining documentary on the life of Randi with some wonderful insights into his debunking of psychics and charlatans as well as some pretty significant bumps in the road in his life.

It's up on BBC Player for another 25 days.

Well if we're talking favourite documentaries, mine are quite varied.

For travel: Michael Palin's "Around The World In 80 Days" (1988/1989) or "pole To Pole" (1991/1992)

    Love Palin's narration and presentation.

For Music: The Beatles Anthology (1996): This is without any shadow of a doubt the finest music documentary that I've ever seen.777

Watched "Planet Oil" it's a 3 part documentary on the story of oil from its initial discovery to its uses throughout our lives. Really interesting how the US and UK basically ripped off the Middle Eastern countries with terrible deals until these countries got sense and then wanted 50/50 share in profits. Makes the deal the Irish Government did with Shell look criminal when they could see how all these deals were done over the years.

Here's Part 1, the rest are available on BBC Player or "elsewhere"...

One I saw recently on Youtube which was quite interesting.

    Roel van Broekhoven's 'Beachy Head'

A documentary following the work of Police and Coastguard responders covering Beachy Head, the UK's most infamous suicide spot. It includes some fascinating interviews with survivors.

Anybody see Cartel Land on BBC4 last night? Incredible documentary. It was hard to believe that it was a documentary considering the footage they were able to get.

Definitely worth a watch if you get a chance.

I watched this over the week and found it to be quite good.
5 hours is a lot and while I was'nt riveted to all aspects of documentary I found Schama to be top notch.

    The Spanish Civil War (1983)
Documentary series which uses film and eyewitness accounts from both sides of the conflict that divided Spain in the years leading up to World War Two, also placing it in its international context.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1718608/

Highly recommended for anyone interested in the subject. I have not come across a better video or doc explaining the Spanish Civil War.

I'm going through a bit of a cult fascination at the moment and watched "the end of the world cult" I enjoyed it, as I already said its fascinating.

there's a follow up documentary too, that if your interested should be watched, but I don't want to say anything about that because it would be a spoiler.

both are on netflix and the first doc is on youtube

Thought it was supposed to be about documentaries :D

Only joking, somewhere along the same lines, you could throw "Threads" into this as well, cant post the youtube link, but its set in during the cold war about a nuclear attack in england, very harrowing!!!, but essential viewing to say the least!!!!

Watched this tonight, it was good, but not great, I think Louis has sold his soul to Hollywood and popular culture. You wont learn anything new watching it, but still interesting none the less.
