They can hardly make you pay the full price if they change it! I assume what happens is they offer it to you at the regular price and you can cancel the order if you don't want it.

Maybe as it's Christmas they let one slip through. ;)

When you get to submit order page (after you have put in you CD details), the price jumps to €419.

Pity, would have been a nice X-mas pressie....

Why did you go and do that? They can't actually make you pay the correct price once they have noticed. We could have all just ordered and seen what happened. They fixed it while I was in the credit card details page and in my rush almost ordered the thing for the full price.

It was very unlikely they would have honoured it but I always miss out on these things and was enjoying the rush.

Same here - could have ended up with an unwanted yoke at full price. Sneaky bast*rds! :D

Dell's website is always screwing up. I went to buy a laptop for somebody about 6 months back and managed to get about €100 off for changing the colour, which shouldn't have affected the price. Just ordered it and it arrived a week later.

I find it's best not to go posting these things on message boards if you actually want to get the product.

same here. Initially it said €76 but just before I had to hit the submit button it reverted to full price. Ah well...

    Any word yet?

In some ways I want you to get it. In other ways I'm a small petty jealous man who will be mightily pissed off at just missing out.

All I have it this so far:
This e-mail is an acknowledgement of receipt of your Dell Order.

You will receive an order confirmation by e-mail after your payment is authorised, so please check your e-mail regularly.
And I know most of you bastards are hoping I get cancelled!

Obviously it's a mistake, but why the hell did you ring them ???

They can't make you pay full price.

Some people are seriously goody two shoes stupid.

PS: I didn't even want the laptop, but other people here wanted to chance it !

I hope those who ordered get it too, even though I missed out (barely). I wonder how many people confirmed the order at that price, and if that affects dells decision to honour the order or not.

Best of luck, hope you lucky peolpe get it!!!!

    Merry Christmas

I managed to order one after all! The email you get when you after is NOT a confirmation email. It's an internet receipt, the email is received after the laptop has been charged to your credit card.

Being selfish, it's probably better for the people that ordered that Dell were rung and fixed it because they are more likely to honour the deal if 15 people ordered than 100 people.

Well he may have just got a few people (unfortunately not me or ironically himself) the mother of all bargains so maybe he should be made king of BA.

In fairness until they are told most people don't know their rights in these areas. Previous threads like this resulted in people saying that the law was that it had to be honoured and others saying that they could be charged the full price. Live and learn.

I managed to get an order in... but have little faith in it working out. Always worth a try though eh? :o
Dell said that it sincerely regretted the error, but stated that it was not legally obliged to honour this price as all orders submitted to Dell are subject to order confirmation with customers and this was a clear and obvious mistake to all concerned.

Best wait and see if any of us get lucky before mob-ruling the OP. If those that got their orders in get cancelled, calling/not calling would have made no difference. Would just have been more people disappointed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 743 ✭✭✭smodgley

remember the littlewoods site did the same about 6 months ago?
they for gave me a 25% discount off my next order to compensate for the fact they had made a mistake,

But does the outcome affect the right/wrongness of the OP calling Dell to pretty much alert them. Personally I don't mind what they did I'm sure it wasn't malicious and I'd say it increased the chances of us getting the deal!

Only rang after Centre15 had indicated they had changed it. Yes I appreciate peoples views on me ringing but as I was unsure about whether I would have to pay full price (which I cant afford) I took a decision to cover myself personally. I appreciate this may have interfered with peoples dreams of buying a cheap laptop however someone may still get one out of it. I have no regrets about my decision and the biggest mistake was a someone stated is posting such things on boards like this. This is not to demean the whole ethos of what goes on here but in situations like this they might let 10 people off with but not 1000 when it goes viral on sites like this.

    Merry Christmas:)

Just got an email from Dell:

    Dear Dell Customer,

Your recent order for the Inspiron 15 contained a pricing error; as a result your order was cancelled.

We have not charged you for this order.

If you wish to place a new order, please visit www.dell.ie

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    Thank You.,
