    Hi Ash

I don't mean to come across as a smart ass, but from your post above it would seem that you were doing some kind of training pre-summer and that you were happy with the way your body and specifically your thighs and tummy looked back then.

To me this means that you then already know how to answer your own question. Just get back into your pre summer training and eating regime that obviously produced results for you previously. And remember it took 6 months to get slightly out of shape, so be patient and expect it to take a couple of weeks before you start to visually see a difference and a couple of months to get back into the shape you were in last summer.

Personally, if you are a gym member, I would suggest a full body routine, such as either of the following programs,

    Starting Strength
    http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/Starting_Strength_Wiki
    http://www.startingstrength.net/workouts/

    -or-
    Strong Lifts 5x5
    http://stronglifts.com/

Finally, my advice would be "Start now, today. Don't wait until after Christmas." And if you like, post up a sample of a typical days food intake (warts and all) and I am sure that some of the experienced folks on here can point out any changes you may want to consider.

Other than that, Good luck with your fitness regime and Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

Thanks for that... I'm not a member of a gym at the moment because camogie was my main source of training and exercise up until now..training will be back up in the new year but i know myself i wont be at every one due to college so i was thinking of starting up the trainin on my own to get back into shape. Thanks again for your help!:D

    Hi Ash

Well if you are not a member of a gym you can still get a pretty decent workout at home.

Do you have any fitness equipment at home?
    i.e.
    • dumbells/kettlebells
    • weights of any kind
    • skipping rope
    • Exercise Ball (Swiss Ball)
    • etc
If you have well and good, if not, it's no biggy to start off with.

Without any equipment you can perform (Search on Youtube if you are not sure of any of these)
    • Lunges
    • Reverse Lunges
    • push-ups
    • bodyweight squats
    • single leg squats
    • jumping jacks
    • burpees
    • sit-ups
    • crunches
    • Plank
    • Side Plank
    • dips (using chairs)
I am sure there are many more. If you use youtube and search for "body weight exercises", I am sure you will get a lot more ideas.

Also don't forget to throw in some cardio, such as running, skipping, cycling, swimming etc. And mix it up with high intensity interval training and some steady state endurance stuff for best results.

Here are two videos from Youtube. The first is from a guy who posts on here (Transform) and who is a personal trainer. The second is just a random clip I found.

Then if you keep a look out in the sales after Christmas you might pick up some dumbbells or kettlebells cheap, with which you could add some resistance work to mix things up a bit.

The 3 places I know where you can get kettlebells (besides Argos which is a tad more expensive and does not have a good range) are

Irish Lifting (Currently charging €2.80/kg, down from €3.50/kg)
    http://www.irish-lifting.com/product_info_equipment.php?cPath=1_17&products_id=228

Buy Kettlebells Dublin (probably a little more expensive then Irish lifting at present, but might have a sale after Christmas)
    http://www.buykettlebelldublin.com/

Irish Fit (Not the biggest range)
    http://www.irishfit.eu/kettlebell.html

And if you want to get them yourself from the UK, check out

Wolverson Fitness (These are the same ones sold by Buy Kettlebells Dublin)
    http://www.wolverson-fitness.co.uk/

Also have a look around your house/garage/garden for something suitable for doing pull-ups and/or inverted rows (See 2nd video clip).

Well I have probably gone on long enough. Hopefully this has given you some ideas as to how you can start to regain your fitness and toning at home.

    Best Regards,

    M,
