Class, you could make some great little vids with that

I'll admit I thought that cock had got away from you, good reactions

    very impressed with your dog

Pure snap shot in the end, another second & I would of blown half the ivy off the tree :D

I missed some good clips last week as I had it positioned wrong but getting used to it. Problem is you have to aim it a bit left so when you fire it catches it as you tilt your head down the gun but when your just walking around you forget to compensate by turning a little to the right.

Hope to add clips regularily now all things going well... Might make a dvd each year or something. Nice to watch in a few years time...

    Bang

    Got it on
    http://shop.hatcams.com/main.sc

It cost about 150 euro at time with exchange rate. Looks a bit silly but it's really light so you wouldn't feel it it you are used to wearing hats when shooting anyway & is fairly good quality.
hooks up to TV as well for full picture like a regular camcorder.
I got the dearest one on there with the hope of it being good, plus extra quick shipping but was worth it. Took like 3 days to get here.
Software is decent & built in USB transfer.

i like it better than a gun cam as you get the whole picture rather than just down the barrel...
I have contact name on email if your interested.

ps, the old man bit was a figure of speech
    no offence intended

Im with you on this Vegeta I thought he had missed the cock as well, great shot though. You cant beat that sound this time of the year when a cock gets up crowing like that followed by a single bang.

Keep the vids coming great little gadget that.

Just going through some of your videos Epointer. That retrieve by the springer was class on top of the run. She looks promising. Do you have her in the field much yet??

She is a he & has grown a fair bit since. He has a small little head which makes him look feminine :D
Just started to bring him out now lately, about 3 times. Missed a sitter of a woodcock & only pheasants i've met with him seem to be hens.
Lives for retrieving so need to get the hunting right now. We've no rabbits about which I'd rather use for training springers for cover.
Like a rabbit pen. Will make a good duck dog as nice & calm to sit quiet.

Was out this morning for a holiday pheasant/woodcock hunt & after meeting 4 cocks with no shot over about 2 hours I noticed the dog was getting tired. Had a look at him & his feet were frozen so I said it was time to head back after giving him a rest. So on the way home I was tipping along the ditches I passed rather than hunt the full square of the field. As i was hopping a drain I heard a little russle in the ditch about 30 ft down so I hopped back down.
Nothing like a bird & remmington 7 to wake up a tired dog.
It was a good job too as when he hit the gound he took off running for the ditch. Dog caught him quickly on the ditch & pretty much finished the job without any damage. He did however gleefully help himself to a mouthful of feathers! He met his 1st runner recently & kept dropping him & he'd run off again then catch him again so was a bit enthusiastic this time & reluctant for a repeat ;)
Funny though as if the bird had stayed quiet he was grand as I has just plodding home.
Tail was 23 inches & he will complement the turkey & ham nicely on Friday.

P.S I have a nice vid with good quality capture of a crosser that won't upload. All of these ones seem to be snapshots...

Well lads, finally got this one up from earlier in the month.
Had trailed this pheasant for 2 fields with numerous false points. It led into the edge of the bog. This clip is the last minute or so. Shot with a remington 5 a bit close. I was convinvced I had a 7 in put turned out I had the 7 & 5 in the wrong barrels!
After such a good hunt I had to take they shot. Great experience for the young dog...
Plenty of good eating on him but upper part of one breast was nailed!

would a digital camera do the same job

would a digital camera do the same job

If you got a bolt, nut & couple of washers & attached it to the hat the right size to fit the tripod mount on standard cameras theres no reason why not...
Might be a bit heavy though. These things are lighter than a phone.

I saw a clip thing that might work on ebay...

Thing is you could have it on for 2 or 3 hours & only get a few minutes of action. Digital camera might die, battery life is good on one supplied & the software lets you trim the videos to manageable sizes...

Would love to see a few others do the same thing as great to watch real local type shooting instead of all the south dakota clips that are around...

i think ill give it a try and see how i get on

The vids are really good, short enough to keep your interest without getting dragged out. The camera looks like one my young lad has - it's a Creative Labs job that's about the size of a phone. I used it to make my short video last year - now I'll have to try figure out a way of getting it onto my cap.

how much memory would you need for say 3 hours of video eg 4gb 8gb etc ???????????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,070 ✭✭✭EPointer=Birdss

On a digital camera I would be thinking at least 4 but i'm not a massive tech person as regards recording format etc. I would record something for say 5 minutes on a blank card you have handy. Throw it into the computer & check the properties to see how much memory is left or how much memory the clip took up. Bit of simple maths & you can work out how long you'd get out of that card.
The one I have only has 60mins internal recording. I just delete any non eventful clips after about 15 mins. Takes 2 seconds & that way you only keep the good clips which makes it easier to find them whem you get on the computer....
