Rigth im really going try work on my Bench Press but was wondering is it good idea to work on Bench Pree using Smith machine?

I use gym early in morning and sometimes there might be nobody to spot for me so is Smith Machine good cause I like do max reps and is this the advantage to Smith Msachine in that if you struggle to do a rep that you can pull it in the hook rather then bar falling on top of yourself if just bench pressing from normal seat?

    Thanks all

its not as good as it's assisted i.e it doesn't work your stabilizer muscles, you will find that after using the Smith for a few weeks, that when going back to regular bench, that you balance will be all over the place.

However, it still works you chest well, and is a good alternative to lifting heavy without a spotter.

Dumbell press is something else to add/consider.

for flat bench, id say no, for incline bench i wouldnt mind too much, on flat bench you tend not to go just up and down, the movement isnt as linear as it is on incline

If you absolutely have to - incline bench rather than flat in the smith.

Personal preference obvs, but I think the groove's much nicer and more natural.
