Over Door Pull-up Bars

    Hi All

I am looking to get an over door pull-up bar for home use, for if/when I can't make the gym or when it is closed over Christmas, and was looking at the ones Mickk has in Irish Lifting.

I have one question for anybody who has one of these units. Are the safe to use with a door that has a plasterboard partition over the door?

Do they work like the P90X pull-up bar is this youtube video. They certainly look to be the same.

If this is the case, then most of the weight is taken by the bar across the door frame on the side you stand at and the part that goes over the door on the outside is just to stop the bar sliding down. So the fact that there is a plasterboard partition over the door should not matter.

Thanks in Advance for your answers.

    Best Regards,

    M

I bought a similar bar (same principle) and use it on a plasterboard studded partition wall. No Ill effects to the wall doing 20-30 chin ups per day for the last two months. I weigh 90kgs. Having said that the one I got is fairly well padded. They're also fairly cheap and conveient and stow away neatly in seconds. I'd definitely recommend. I have lats again;)

I got the Iron Gym pull up bar when in the US a few months back, I think JML or one of those companys were doing them here, I even saw them in tesco a while back. They are pretty sturdy and don't damage the door at all.

    Hi All

Just an update. I picked up one of these chin-up/pull-up bars from Irish Lifting today and it is exactly like the setup in the video in my first post. I have tried it out and it works really well.

    Happy Camper :D
