12 week blowdry - Any bad experiences ?

I've been hearing so much about the miraculous results that people are getting after the 12 week blow dry.

I got it done and in all honesty my hair looks no different apart from an improved shine. In fact I found it looks like a frayed rope and much harder to manage. I followed the after care results to the letter.

Went back to the hairdresser who blow dried my hair and went over each section with the GHD x 6 times !!! Now it looked great after she styled it but then it always does after going to the hairdressers.
She told me that the treatment had taken very well and that there was nothing wrong with my hair. Apparently tech support for the product manufacturer told her that people who normally use a GHD would still have to do so as the hair gets used to it !!!!

I pointed out to her that the treatment was supposed to make it easier for amateurs to style their own hair and that you shouldn't have to use a GHD 6 times to straighten the hair. After that she immeadiately offered to carry out the treatment again.

I'm not sure what to do now just in case a second treatment makes the problem worse.

Has anyone else experienced this ?

Sounds like you didn't go to a very good hairdressers ... after getting the 12 week blowdry you're not really meant to have to do any styling whatsoever, just dry it with a hair dryer and it goes straight.

Emiso i got the 12 week blowdry done last jan and it was the worst thing i EVER did- before i went in i had wavy hair and was actually ghding it so thought i would be better off getting the 12 week dry done in order to stop wrecking my hair- roll on 11 months and my hair is in bits- the hairdresser that carried out the procedure on my hair went overboard- for the first 3 months my hair would dry flat onto my head(do u know when u wash ur hair and comb it after and its dead straight and no life well thats what my hair was like for 3 months) even now its still drying so straigh- there is no body or texture to it- worst thing i ever did!!!

    Hi,

if you havent already have a look at this

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055562663&page=12

my hair is in much worse condition since I got this done, would not recommend it to anyone and would never do that to my hair again!

I've had it done three times now and I have nothing but praise for the treatment. You shouldn't need a GHD unless you are trying to straighten your hair as the treatment is not a strightening treatment it just defrizzes your hair so it needs minimal styling. Tbh I have tried the GHD in my hair since just to see the results and it makes little or no difference to the look of the hair because my pre treated hair was already straight.

ohhh my god i have just finished reading all your posts and thank god i did.

at 3.30 tday i was sitting out side the school waiting for my daughter to come out of school and i looked out the window and saw an advert in the local hairdresers for the 12 week blow dry for 169 euro and was delighted because i was meant to have it doen in dublin when i was next up there.
I went in and booked the appointment for tuesday, i asked all the questions and told the girl that i have naturally curley hair infact its natural fuzz and it takes me about 2hours to get it straight.
I only straighten it for work appointments or tv but it takes ages,
So it was reccommended i get the 12 week blow dry.
You know i did have my doubts about it and wondered if it would make my hair worse and after reading your posts i will be canceling my appointment.
Thanks guys you more than likely saved my head.

I damaged it myself really badly last june with hair color and had to have the Nano Max treatment for three weeks so dont want to be doing that again.

Just an update re my experience with the 12 week blowdry. I washed, dried and ran the GHD over my hair today and its almost as if I have someone else's hair. It feels completely smooth , soft and shiny and looks like I just had it blowdried at the hairdressers.

Not sure what has happened but looks like it took a few washes for the treatment to settle.

Is it true that you're really not supposed to get it unless your hair is unmanageable normally?

yeah it apparently works better on damaged coloured hair. Doesn't really work on virgin hair (uncoloured) hair

Fair play to you for updating your post Emiso. I'd hate for people not to try it because of a few negative comments by people. I really think these bad reviews are a result of people who got it done although it wasn't really suitable for their hair type and that is really bad on behalf of their hairdresser who should have given them a full consultation on what to expect from the treatment.

I've had it done and think its great. Getting ready in the mornings is a hell of a lot easier\quicker. I know a couple of girls that have had it done and they're all reasonably happy - some more so than others.

I have heard of a few stories like the posts above where people have noticed no difference\lack of body etc....but can't honestly say I've seen anything negative first hand.

I had the 12 week blowdry done a fortnight ago and felt that my hair was almost back to its normal unruly self after a week. I went back to the salon and they were very helpful and agreed to touch up the treatment again for me as I’ve very thick hair and it probably hadn’t taken properly. I’ve just washed it today (best to leave it for 3 days, I’d only left it for two the first time) and I’m really pleased with the results. No, it’s not a perfect ‘salon blow dried’ look but it was easy to dry and style myself, the shine is amazing and it’s very sleek. I’d it done by Shauna in Head Salon, Dalkey. Price depends on length of hair, I paid 200 euro.

Honestly, my hair is damaged highlighted frizzy hair and I got the 12 week blow dry done 15 weeks ago. I would not do it again, it has made my hair lank and dull. The back particularly gets really greasy before I even dry the thing. I went to an excellent hairdresser who I really trusted, and paid well for it, 280 euro. I have not gone back to the hairdresser and I would not do it again, if I had the money I'd pay to get my hair professionally blow dried once a week rather than paying for that again...

I entered a competition for this today and hadn't heard of it before, sounds a bit too good to be true!!! http://www.styletonic.ie/this-months-competition-dylanbradshaw12weekblowdry.html

If you've got it done, can you wash your hair now and just leave it to dry naturally or would you still need to blow dry it??? €200 is a bit pricey I think but if it lasts for 3 months it might be worth it. I have naturally curly hair go to the gym every morning which means I wash and blow dry my hair every morning which is so bad for it. would love to be able to just wash it and let it dry naturally. Any reviews?????

My mates had it done and loved it - wash the hair and dries pretty flat. Like a big injection of conditioner in it for a few weeks. She recomended it and my hairdresser is always raving about it. Some good press about it in Cork too in local papers..dont think you'll regret it!

    Good luck!

had the 12 week BD done twice.. as you can see from my posting name !!!!! delighted with it. will go again when i have saved up. does nt give me straight hair but def makes it managable

I really think it depends on what product you get done, as there's loads availabel. I got the Coppola done in Limerick about 5 months ago and thought it was brilliant.
Still using the shampoo + conditioner which helps to prolong but it's almost all gone now

has anyone heard about the sunliss one? you can buy it online to do either at home yourself. reviews i've read online are all very good......but still not sure if I would trust them

isnt it the case that the whole fact of getting the blow dry is that you dont have to use the GHD anymore?

No, the treatment is not a straightening treatment, it just defrizzes your hair so if you have curly hair and you want it straightened, you would still have to GHD it after blowdry. If your hair is naturally straight just frizzy, you should get away with just blowdrying it unless you wanted it poker straight. The advantage to curly hair would be it makes it more manageable, quicker to blow dry and the curls would be sleeker as it removes the frizziness that often goes along with curly hair.

i just went for my treatment today. have been researching for about a year, and my local salon got it in before xmas, so everytime i went i asked about it and how other treatments went. €150 and i have to wait til monday for the results.
id normally have frizzy but really thick hair,so can take over an hour to any sort of decent style.
girls in salon have done everything else to my hair over the past few years, so i trust them. and they said my hair would be very compatable.
ill post on monday with results and a pic too!!!!

where are you based ? €150 is a good price. seems to be €200 in cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30 superhoopess

    in crumlin in dublin.
its a salon called "simply elegant" in the ashleaf shopping centre.
and my hair is shoulder length, when straight!!!!!

great price// hope you are pleased with the results. i was !

hey so i have given it a week since i got it washed out to put up this review , just to give a fair chance.
    but i love it!!!!
hair is lovely and soft, not a bit limp, blow dried straight no frizz in 10 mins, and cannot believe the freedom.
i used to arrive to boyfriends place with a bag full of tricks, now all i bring is a metal rolly brush and use his travel dryer.
i am so pleased with it and would definately reccommend it.

also i read other peoples saying that their got greasier sooner, not the case for me, i get 2 and half decent days out of it!!!!

now i cant wait for holidays!!!!

my only regret is not getting it done sooner!!!

    Hi :)
Please dont let anyone elses bad experiences stop you. Ive had it done and its amazing! I have no frizz in my hair and its tame and straight, Ive got VERY thick and plentiful hair. My mam is a professional hairdresser and is also very experienced doing the 12 week blowdry, thats why I wonder if these people used the correct shampoo afterwards? Or it was done wrong?
You should get the treatment done, it works wonders and does nothing but good to your hair :D

Global keratin is nice and light with a better smell. Pureology is another, its very heavy but does a very nice wash. I would go with Global Keratin :)

I got it done in a salon in Blanchardstown, it didn't work. A friend of mine who is a hairdresser told me the only place worth getting it done was dylon and bradshaw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3 MillieX

Well, several things could of went wrong. Its down to the experience of the hairdresser and the quality of the products used, theres plenty of other salons that would be worth getting it done in, I know quite a few.

I have naturally curly hair which is coloured blonde and turns into a ball of frizz if it gets wet or in humidity and usually takes over two hours to dry and straighten, so as I was going abroad for a wedding I decided to get the 12 week blowdry so that it would be easy to manage. I got it done the week before I went away and I have to say I was delighted I did. I washed my hair the day of the wedding and it took me about half an hour to dry and it was smooth and silky and a fab shine on it. Even in 105 degree heat there was no frizz!!! I loved it that much that when I was looking on ebay I noticed that the same product was on sale there so I ordered it. I applied it myself and my hair is just as good as it was when I got it done in the salon. Having said that you need to have some experience in straightening your hair or some help from a friend but the results are just the same. I am delighted with my hair which even my hairdresser who has being doing my hair for years said that she has never seen it in such good condition .

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/health/2010/1019/1224281437394.html
    Health Briefing

A round-up of today's other stories in brief...

'12-week blow-dry' product recall prompts confusion

THE HSE says it is working with the Irish Medicines Board (IMB) to establish which products used in the so-called “12-week blow-dry” are safe for use.

This follows confusion arising from the product recall by the IMB and the HSE on Friday. It said the distribution of Acai Professional Smoothing Solution, a product within the Brazilian Blowout range, had ceased: “Hairdressing salons have been notified not to use the product and distributed stocks of the product are being recalled.”

The Acai solution was found by the board to have levels of formaldehyde above the permitted level of 0.2 per cent. The statement said formaldehyde was a known irritant and sensitiser and had the potential to induce “undesirable effects” during application to the hair. “Exposure to formaldehyde above the allowed limits places stylists, the person to whose hair the product is applied and those within the immediate vicinity at increased risk.”

The styling treatment known as the “12-week blow-dry” entails the application of a smoothing and relaxant product to hair, which is left for a number of days before being rinsed out. It promises to leave the hair smooth and with a “just styled” appearance for up to 12 weeks and costs €100-€350.

A number of similar products have also been recalled, details of which are on the IMB website. Dublin salon owner, Dylan Bradshaw, is adamant he will continue offering the “12-week blow-dry” saying one of the products he uses, which is on the recall list, is safe. “It was withdrawn but I am fully expecting it to be back on the market. I have all the paperwork and it is safe.” KITTY HOLLLAND

Massive item on the radio on this yesterday. Think it was RTE2 in Column Hayes show. I personally wouldn't risk it after hearing all that.
