What were they thinking!!? I can't knock the lady's analogy.

Tesco has apologised after complaints that a Christmas card it sold was offensive to people with ginger hair.
The card in question shows a child with red hair sitting on the lap of Santa Claus under the banner: 'Santa loves all kids. Even ginger ones.'
Davinia Phillips, whose three children all have red hair, was enraged when she saw the card at one of Tesco's stores in northern England.

'It's discrimination, pure and simple. I have shown it to a lot of friends and they are all disgusted by it,' she said.
'I just don't find it funny at all. If it had been about a black child or an overweight child the store would have been shut down by now.'
Tesco said the offending card had now been withdrawn from all its stores.
'It is never our intention to offend any customer and we are sorry if this card caused any upset,' a spokeswoman said.

You just know she's the kind of woman who watches Eastenders with her finger on the speed-dial button for Joe Duffy. Just in case anyone says anything offensive.

I agree it's offensive. I would be disgusted if I had to hang a picture of a ginger kid on my wall.

    OP's a liar.

    Nobody loves ginger kids.

Soon to be removed from Tesco, every birthday card that makes any form of joke of the recipients age.

In fairness, I understand the poor mother's plight, she has 3 ginger kids.....that would ****ing kill anyone's buzz.

Her three kids must be more pissed off with her than she is with the card. They must be getting a right doing at school, or wherever their ginger heads are on display.

I wonder will there ever be a time when people stop getting personally offended by this kind of thing and maybe, just maybe try and laugh it off.

So 'Santa even loves black-skinned kids' would be equally high-larious, yeah? ;)

So it's official, ginger truely is the last ethnic minority. I expect all of boards mods to be up to speed on this matter and to issue strict rulings against members that post any anti-ginger sentiment or "jokes".

Davina, your children don't have red hair.

    This is red.

    They have ginger hair.

And possibly ginger freckles as well.

It's a disgrace. Kids have enough **** to deal with already in school. For some weird reason, children do get picked on for being redheads in the UK. A card like this could serve to 'legitimise' the bullying they go through.

Yeah because ginger people have gone through years of persecution, hardship and mistreatment too. It's just a joke.

wow...I never thought I'd be saying this...never thought I'd be so politically correct...

But I agree with the woman...I think other kids seeing something like this would encourage them to believe that it's okay to pick on kids with red hair...Christ, where and when was it decided anyway that having red hair was such a point of ridicule?

And rightly so, if we can't pick on Ginger Kids, who can we pick on?!

She was offended by it and then proceeded to show it to all her friends. What a ****

In defense of the mother, anyone can make a mistake - but to have 3 of them... has she no shame.

    obviously, they're ginger.

Well, if her kids didn't know that Santa hates ginger kids, they sure do now. The bad kids in their playground will have a field day too.

Perhaps she should have just kept them away from Tesco until January.

They sell hair dye too, maybe give a pack free with each card, problem solved :p

    Ah c'mon guys.

    Let's tell a joke to lighten the mood;

What does a ginger miss most about parties?
    The invitation.

THere's a link between the two.
Rearrange the letters of ginger and see what you get....

That's pretty hilarious, but you really do need the right sense of humor - I wouldn't fancy being a ginger kid - my eight year old cousin for example, who is gorgeous and highly intelligent (unlike his stupid little brother) - and seeing that card in a shop.

In a bar with a group of lads a few years back, pretty redhead behind the bar and one of the lads asked her if she reads books, yes, she answers, so he continues, have you read red pubes!?!

Tim Minchin has my heart. Always has, always will. I had that song stuck in my head for AGES after meeting him at the Vicar Street gig in September. I also like that he always can rip the piss out of himself, which is the level the card is funny on.

But probably not if you're a kid.

At least dwarves have a sense of humor; did you hear about the European Court of Human Rights case of Wackenheim v France?
Some dwarf was banned from being used in midget tossing as France felt it was degrading so he took went to the ECtHR to uphold his right to be tossed.

Dont know how Tesco would not think that some people would get offended by it.

Personally I would laugh at it so job done. I know a couple of red heads who laugh at ot to if it was given to them, maybe the original problem was the character was a kid, if it had benn an adult and the message was written accordingly the I dont see why this would be such a big problem.

Hilarious card by Tesco, just saw next year's planned card, "Santa loves kids, even ones born with congenital heart defects".. I wonder will we see the same people finding it funny then  ffs people it's a hair colour. I thought people grew out of finding red hair funny when they were about 5.

Take your own advice, it's a hair colour, not a heart disease.

    Stop taking it so seriously.
