Guys starting in January we will have a regular freestyle night at the Ski Club of Ireland.

Dion a world freestyle tour judge will be providing lessons and the park will be open to everyone who can ski/board in control on the main slope. All you need is yourself as boots and skis will be available as with any normal class or practice session at the club

With 8 features and various jumps available weekly the park layout will evolve with the standard of riders and we have plans in place to add to the slope furniture. We have a couple of sponsors lined up and there is some really exciting stuff on offer and planned.

Skiers and Boarders are welcome and we have some real special stuff lined up over the next few months,

    Ski Tests

    Themed nights

    Prizes and guest coaches

    Airbag nights

    And so much more.

What time is it planned for, and for those of us who aren't ski club members (yet) what's the damage ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭Fattes

zagmund, still finalising it but it will probably be similar to current free ski and class prices working on making it as accesible as possible to everyone.

So what's the word on the freestyle night it still going ahead or has anything been hampered by the recent snow(if anything it should be the opposite!)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭Fattes

Guys we are all set to go tonight and even better we have snow! May even go the whole hog and put up a snow kicker for yall!

    See you there guys

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 883 ✭✭✭davmol

Can you give a brief layout of the course you'll have ??cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭Fattes

There will be 6-8 features from 6 inch flat boxes to 1o inch shot gun rails. Park will be set up by about 7:30 - 8

We will have to see how the conditions are tonight but it will be set up with an easy and more advanced line for riders.

Probably a bit of a silly question here, but are there any buses that serve Kilternan running today? Dying to get up for the freestyle session.

Conditions where awsome last night! There was mogules!!!

Freestyle class is booked out but you can just come up and freeski and hit the features as long as you have a helmet

Park will be set up and open by 8

    I_luv_2_ski! Welcome home

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭Fattes

Another awsome Friday freestyle night despite the terrible weather. Class was full with 12 people and most of the night spent hitting jumps.

Couple of newbies where throwing down some incredible stuff and starting to expand the scene. Full set of features will be out next friday night. Everything from the flat boxes to the shotgun rails.

If you want to know how good our freestyle coach is on a Friday night in Kilternan he gets to work as a judge on the world freestyle tour

Fattes, can you rent twin-tips on the friday nights?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭Fattes

The ski club dont have twin tips to rent at the moment but you can use the regular rentals which are included in your free ski / class price.

To be honest they are as soft and flexible as any twin tip.:D

sarsfield06 Keep an eye out for a couple of the older Irish instructors will be out there in Kitzbul this weekend aswell

Make sure you have a run at the Hahnenkamm grab yourself a pair of GS skis and have a run at it on Sunday or Monday

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 DaveIR180

Do you reckon they'll be getting twin-tips in the future at all?? Would buy a pair but don't have the funds! Unless anyone has a decent 2nd hand pair around 170cm, I'd be interested..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭Fattes

DaveIR180I think sarsfield06 is selling a pair of Thrusters in good condition. Twin tips are not essential for doing freestyle they just make life easier for people skiing switch or doing switch tricks.

The club rentals are soft enough to do allot of stuff on and have very blunt edges so they are great for doing rails.:D

Plenty of cheap twin tips on line especially on ebay, and whitemountian

Nah saw them they're too short. Ya I know I'm the level of doing switch tricks. Is there any possibility that the Ski Club will be getting a few pairs in? Or no chance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭Fattes

DaveIR180 The question has been asked but to be honest I have no Idea if it will happen anytime soon to he honest.

Just keep an eye peeled for the video that will be going up this week we have allot of the guys doing plenty of switch tricks on both club and race skis so if you have the ability switch is possible on normal skis

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 DaveIR180

Where abouts will that video be going up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭Fattes

Having serious technology issues at the moment but will put the link up here for You tube and if you want to have a look at what is going on there is a facebook group called freestyle for Kilternan

I had my tricolour but no Irish approached me! Had a go on the following Wednesday with my twin tips! Straight from the start gate had difficulty gripping the ice sheet, avoided the Mausefall jump and rejoined the course after that, the ice and the steep sections made it a tad difficult even though there had been fresh snow the previous day! Would have been fine on race skis but what is so scary about the course is the speed they go at, they are so fast I didn't get one photo on my camera of a moving racer. I see why some skiers just do slalom.

    Hi Fattes

Question, when you board\ski on the dry slopes do you use your new gear or do people use old gear.

Does the dry slope do any damage to your boards/ski?

    Curious

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭Fattes

Static M.e.: Wouldnt dream about using good Skis/Board on Plastic:eek: I have skis especially for up there! But the club stuff is included in the cost.

Boots and clothes will be fine but the hardware is not designed for the heat and friction generated by skiing on plastic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Static M.e.

    Perfect, thanks Fattes.

I have an old board which should do fine. I am hoping to get up some Friday in the coming weeks to give it a shot. (In College most Friday nights)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭Fattes

Guys no session for the next two weeks. Dion is in Verbier judging at the worlds Freestyle champs and I will be of ripping up Swiss Snow.

    Normal Service will resume ASAP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 282 ✭✭sarsfield06

If anyone is looking for full tilt boots they are still available in ski Bartlett in London. Got a pair of high fives yesterday. Had great service from boot fitter alex and they even drove me back to the rail station. Even if u don't want full tilts there fitting service was great.

    Where's all the Snowboarders!? (Whistler?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭Fattes

Static M.e; No idea we get them on various nights but they have been thin on the ground this year.

Funny thing is our Snowboard instructors now have 4 qualified Frestyle instructors now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Static M.e.

Thats quite a lot of Snowboard instructors considering we only started getting snow last year...

We will have to organise a snowboard night, I'm woeful at boxes\rails but I'll give it a go so people can get some laughs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭Fattes

Snowboarders are more than welcome on the Friday nights, We would love to have more of them about.

There is a snowboard specific night on a Sunday with a few skier knocking about starts at 8 I think
