Posture

    Hi all,

I broke my collar bone in May and after the (painfully long) healing process, my posture has never been the same.

My broken-side collar bone is now shorter and pulls my shoulder forward a bit more than the other one. Also my triceps and the muscles around my shoulder blades are much softer and slacker than they ever were. My posture looks terrible as a result.

    I feel like fudge.

I'm getting married in 6 months, and want to start a really good training program so I'll have a body to die for in my wedding dress. I don't need to loose weight, but need a lot of 'shaping' :)

I'm going to my gym to get a revised plan today, but I'd also like your opinions on the sort of excersices I should focus on to help my posture - i've no pain any more and have been lifting weights since the accident so there are no worries there.

    Thanks a million!!!! :P

well Recently someone noticed in a picture of mine that my shoulders where rounding forward, i was reccomended a few exercises, voyer shrugs where one and upperback work was mentioned. ive broken my right collar bone twice and my left one once so its quite possible thats why mine where rounding too!

Are you sure the bone is shorter and not that the muscles are tighter from being inactive? Either way you should probably talk to a sports physio.

I went to a physio for a while, and him and my consultant both confirmed that my collar bone is about half an inch or an inch shorter (it overlaps!) You wanna see the xray? :D

I know there is nothing I can do about that now, but it exacerbates the whole slouching thing - i need to build up my muscles again to try pull my shoulders back to where they should be (or close enough).

These may help. I'm not a physio though, so best run it by them first before trying these.
