Really worried about loose skin...

I'm 19 and 5''10' and have lost 4.3 stone in 6 months, I was 18.7 stone and am now 14.4 stone and am now beggining to notice loose skin around my stomach and my man breasts. I'v looked everywhere on the internet and i'm getting mixed stories. Some say you have to have surgery to remove loose skin after massive weight loss but others say that the skin will tighten up better the younger you are. I'm just looking for some advice on the best possible way to get rid of lose skin, my pan at the moment is to lose my remaining 2 stone very slowly ( 1 pound a week ) and do plenty of chest exercises and lift weights. However I don't know if it will work, what do you people think? I really don't want to have surgery but if its the only way i'll just have to because i'm determined to have a toned body.

Look into bio oil and post pregnancy creams that encourage skin to tighten up to minimize loose skin

At 19 u should be fine. lots of situps and lots of chest excercises. turn that skin into muscle.

There's no point in worrying about it till you reach your goal weight. It's very early to be considering surgery. It'll tighten up in time.

But would u agree that I should lose only 1 pound a week now so my body can adjust better?

i would imagine the rate at which you lose it wouldnt have much of an effect its either gonna tighten or its not i would say get the weight off as quickly as is safe then make sure you can sustain the weight for a period of time (i dont know 6/12 months) and once you know you are not gonna pile on the weight again assess what you need to do (if anything) about any skin that has not tightened up

i do remember reading on here years ago with pictures that the skin should always tighten up if your young and lose all the fat

congrats on the success so far hope it all work out for you

You're worrying over nothing. If you went for a surgery consult you'd be laughed out of the place. What you're reading about on the internet does not apply to you. Keep up the regime don't worry about slowing it down. If you look at body builders they build and then cut, going from a little but fat to paper thin skin. You'll be fine.

    +1.

OP this reply is bang on the money.

Well done on your weight loss, I think at this stage all you need is little tweaks to your diet and daily activities.

True, 18-19stone at your height is nothing compared to the guys you see on TV who are getting this surgery, lads removed by crane to the hospital etc.

Stick to your 1lb per week plan, and keep lifting, what sort of exercises are you doing already?

just checked your pictures you have seriously nothing to worry about

I was thinking you probably had nothing to worry about and when I seen your pics, it just confirmed that theory for me. You are grand.

I'm 5ft 10" also and a few years ago I lost 3.5 stone in the space of 6 months. I too was 18 stone when I began. At most the lightest I got down to 14.5 stone but I didn't have loose skin. I still had a fair bit of fat from what I could see. Still had a belly and man boobs etc. Unfortunately I think the areas we want the fat to go from first are often the areas where it goes from last.

I agree with other posters. The people who need surgery are the ones who were hugely overweight. Like in the region of about 25 stone plus.

You don't look overweight now or anything and I don't know if you've been doing weights, but I'd suspect you might still have some fat in places and its making you think you have loose skin. I'm not saying you are fat though. From your pics, you seem to be in good shape and don't seem to be carrying any excess weight.

I presently trying to get thin and I'm aiming to get down to about 11 or 12 stone as I really want to be lean and from my own experience before, 14.5 stone and 5ft 10, I still had a fair bit of fat to lose. But that's just me and my body type. I think in order to get rid of the man boobs and belly etc, I'd have to be about 11 stone. Am stepping on the scales on Monday and am hoping to have some good news anyway.

    Seriously OP.

The skin thing, as many have said, is not something you need to worry about.
Even if you did have that problem, which from your pics, you dont.

Stop looking in the mirror so much, seriously, the more you look, the more wrong you will imagine you see.

Your skin looks grand, like others have said just keep up the excerise and things should tone up in time. I've lost a load of weight over the past couple of years and with consistant weight training i've managed to tone up fairly well, and thats after two pregnancies. I know what im talking about when it comes to extra skin ! Your only 19 also so you've plenty body changing to go through yet.

    Wish i was 19 :(

Well done on your weightloss. That is a massive achievement. You must look completely different now!
As everyone else has said you don't have an issue with loose skin so stop worrying and enjoy the benefits of your hard work! If you want advice about where you need to go from here in terms of building muscle or whatever other aim you have you should start a thread with some questions about that. Loads of ppl on here will give you good advice.
    Well done again.
