running beginner

    hi i am extremely unfit but want to start running and to get fit.i haven't been anywhere near fit for several years and need advice on how to get back on the wagon. has anyone else been in the same situation as me and how did you start off?

    also how soon should i notice improvements? and should i run till i nearly get sick?

    Why not try the couch25k program.

    You can download the podcasts and follow them weekly.

    I too have just started and am looking forward to running 5k in 9 weeks.

    The couch to 5 km is a good one for complete beginners. Run walk techniques work for a lot of people (run until feel you can't go on, then walk to recover, then run again and repeat etc). Save running until you throw up for when you start aiming to win races. Gut busting sessions are hard and will only put you off running at this stage.

    Head over to the Athletics/running/triathlon forum. There are all sorts of people over there with good advice.
