I've nearly been killed three times this week due to people breaking red lights, The first was by what i thought was an undercover Garda car? But it lacked the six antennas on the roof, I was halfway across the road and i had to jump back to avoid being ran over, No signs of him stopping!

The second time i nearly had my toes flatten by a car full of Romanian Gypsies, They thought it was funny, I didn't! And the third time it happened on the way to work today, An SUV that Presumed he was king of the road decided to wheel spin and escape the traffic which nearly killed me, I had enough...

So i managed to smash his tail light off as he sped off! The car beside his beeped and stuck his head out the window "Fair play man" This whole week has been like Final Destination, It great to be alive! For now...

Has anyone had any near death experiences with motorists?

Wait until traffic stopped - your life is more important than the rules of the road - well mine is - not so sure about yours....

Well done, I kicked the wing mirror off a car once while cycling. Some guy mounted a footpath to go around a car turning right, didnt check his mirror, nearly hit me and nearly ran over a girl coming out of a garden. When he started mouthing off, I told him it didnt matter because he didnt need them apparently.

And no, im not usually like that, quite the opposite, but this guy was driving like a ****ing maniac.

I did, I thought the first car was going to slow down at the lights but it continued through at full speed, The second car decided to break the lights just as i was passing their car which was stopped beside the others, And the third one was the same.

Thinking the car was going to slow down doesnt sound like stopped.

Breaking the lights doesn't sound like stopped

The same doesnt sound like stopped.

So the SUV was stopped, took off when the lights were green
and you were still crossing the road.
sounds like you were the one breaking the lights !

i also seriously doubt as well you broke his lights and he just drove off without saying anything or sticking it in reverse and running your ass over.

A lot of thicks tend to go through red lights because two or three of them are following a car (rather than actually watching the light) that keeps going through a junction when it's amber.

If you mean cyclists breaking the lights, it's annoying but increases the chance of being able to run one over and get away with it, so let's not jump to conclusions.

Many times. The girls are afraid of lights and roundabouts, the boys abuse the lights and roundabouts. The above never cease to surprise me. I'm so anal about indication, lanes, roundabouts etc. I've had assholes beep me for being in the right, and that pisses me off no-end. I studied the rules of the road, and bent the ears off my driving instructor, becuase if I had any doubts or questions I asked, I fucking paid him for it.

Light-breaking fucks me up. What the hell can be worth the chance of injuring / killing someone?. There is no comparison, just stu-fucking-pity

How did you manage to break the tail light? Giving it a kick?

People breaking red lights is prob one of the most idiotic things they can do.

FACT = Car was in the wrong for breaking red light

This is a fact, doesn't matter if the OP didn't wait for the traffic to stop, the driver was in the wrong and its only idiotic to argue otherwise :pac:

I hate when people break red light! For one if you are driving and are turning at a traffic light junction and some eejit breaks a red light opposite you, you end up stuck in the middle of the junction with the other set of lights gone green!!

And when you are a pedestrian said cars trying to mow you down.

Green means proceed with caution ... Red means STOP

Yeah, I'd like to know this too. Not an easy thing to do with a foot, especially if the car is moving away.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,239 ✭✭✭✭WindSock

AND! Lights are Not a physical barrier. Always look when you are crossing the road. That includes motorists.

I was in a taxi last year with himself and a friend. I am extremely grateful to the taxi driver who stopped suddenly at the crossroads as a yellow reg car sped passed in front of us. We would have been seriously fkd up. I was so shaken I regret not giving him a huge tip.

"He was in the right" is absolutely zero consolation to your family when they're burying you in the ground.

Live your life with the assumption that everyone else is an idiot, everyone else will always be idiots and you can do absolutely nothing to change that. You'll live longer and find yourself rarely being surprised by people, except when they do something that's not completely selfish and moronic.

Go to Naples get off at the port, wait for the traffic lights to go red and then try and cross the road, when you come back to Dublin you will think we are the best drivers in the world.

Happened just yesterday. A car slowed down at the traffic lights but clearly broke the red light and kept going as people were crossing. Inconsiderate prick. I raised my hand to thump the boot of his car but then chickened out and just scratched my ear. But I'll tell ya - you should have seen my angry expression!

A local newspaper in Waterford recently timed traffic lights in the city to determine how much time a pedestrian had to cross at the lights.

Then, they measured the time left to cross the road AFTER all the cars breaking amber and red lights had gone through.

On a 4 lane road in the city (The Quays) a pedestrian had 6 seconds to cross the road after all the muppets breaking lights went through!!

6 seconds for any person trying to cross is ridiculous, especially the elderly.

Sorry no link, but I don't know how :o

    Copy and Paste.
    6 seconds is plenty.
And the elderly are expendable anyway.A drain on the economy,if you ask me.

I cycle. Every day. Every where. Had near death experiences, near misses, been hit, ended up in hospital, but always get back on the bike. Yes, there are idiot motorists out there but I won't let them stop me from having my cycles!
