No one is a good driver even after passing their tests.
Come back when you've been driving for 10 safefree motoring years.

first of all, what is "safefree" supposed to mean?
Second, why is 10 years the magical number?
Experience builds up over time but you can lose your skills. There's plenty of 70 year olds on the road that have been driving for 50 years and only avoid serious crashes because of the competence and awareness of other road users. I've seen old people with the awareness of a brick, doing 50 in the overtaking lane of a motorway, completely oblivious to those around them. Are they good drivers just because they have been driving for X amount of time? No. I was driving for a fraction of the amount of time of plenty of people and I passed my test where they failed.

It's not that I was trying to antagonise her, I wasn't. It's that it doesn't take much to do so. The fact that other people have passed their test and she hasn't seems to do most of it. She asked how many times people have failed their test and didn't like the answers.

Unfortunately, the OP seems to be extremely defensive towards people that are trying to help her. If people are being antagonistic, its in reaction to the OP's over-the-top reaction.

Anyway, I have yet to do my driving test, because my teacher managed to put the wrong insurance slip in his car the day of the test. :)

Well Sashafierce , I think the main problem is that you think you are a good driver , my wife thought she was a great driver , and she failed the test 3 times ,
Before the fourth test I begged her to take a few driving lessons and she passed the fourth time ,
Take lessons from a good driving instructor , it will cost you money but it is well worth it in the long run ,
My son took 14 lessons from a great driving instructor and passed first time .

Well if that's the case, why not just tell your tester next time that you're good enough to pass and should get your licence without having to do the test, and that they need to go take all 'boy racers" licences off them.

Or you could admit that failing 3 times probably means you're not a good enough driver and need more lessons. The quantity of lessons makes no difference. Some people can pass after one, or none. Some may need 150.

these are off the first half of the first page, and one vaguely answers the main question. everyone else is just putting her down at being frustrated because she failed her test.
i failed mine 6 times, i was seriously pissed off after the 3rd one because i had lessons with 3 different instructors (from the same school) who all told me i was fine. when i failed the main instructor called the dept offices in ballina and fcuked the supervising instructor out of it because he felt i was robbed. it probably did me no favours for the next 3 tests either, but i failed because of one phase of driving within a few weeks of what a few people considered to be perfect.
the driving test is flawed anyway. it's the only time ever that people will drive, or try to drive, perfectly. it's bloody nervewracking, even the 7th time. so give her a break.

It is nervewracking, but attacking people left right and centre doesn't help in gaining sympathy from anyone. Nor does bitterness towards people that have passed, and mocking "boy racers" who have passed the test, while proclaiming herself to be a good driver??? We can't help if we passed and she didn't.

yeah you can. something non descript like keep focused and better luck next time is helping. like i said, i was told by 3 different instructors that i was a shoo in for passing, and i didn't. so it was 3 people against 1, just the opinion of that 1 was the one that mattered. does that mean that i was a ****e driver?? officially, i wasn't up to the standard, but only for that certain phase in time.
i really got pissed off at one girl in particular who was in my class who passed first time, i thought her driving was woeful, i preferred to get the bus than a lift with her cos her driving was just scary. so the OP can feel pissed off that boy racers pass their test at the first go.
like i said before, the test that you pass is probably the only time that you drive perfectly. you think before you do it that you'll end up driving like that forever, but you get the usual habits again over time. so boy racers and any other drivers that blatantly don't obey the rules of the road will really bug the crap out of you if you do fail.

In response to the original question - I was fortunate to pass on my first attempt. I can thank a brilliant driving instructor for that, I found the instructor tougher than the actually tester. People need to ask serious question when it comes to driving instructors, a lot of the ones that were recommended to me were actual gob$hites. So do your homework and don't go back to the same one if your repeatedly failing your test ffs. Remember, when it comes to driving - your only as good as your last journey. If I was to give just one word of advice - anticipation, it's the key.

I'm coming up to do my 4th test this week, did my previous 3 in Wicklow (which by the way if anyone from that part of the world is thinking of going there think again!) and was absolutely robbed by a spanner of an instructor who was doing his last test of the day and seemed more keen on getting out of the office than focusing on my driving.

I did my first 2 tests with limited driving and a couple of pre-tests and I believed myself to be a good driver as I was never told otherwise so when I failed my first 2 tests I was rather annoyed (understatement) when I did so. I was put in contact with a very good driving instructor who teaches in advanced motoring which would be beneficial for me in my line of work and he completely overhauled my techniques and now I am a good driver, aware of all around me and in fact I can on many occasions tell what will happen well before it does. The point is despite what happened in my previous test and my bitter hatred for Wicklow driving testers, I am now a much better driver and if it were not for the instructor I got I would still be going and getting frustrated with testers who seemed 'out to fail me'.....so keep the head up sashafierce, if you go and do the test with a cool head then you'll pass.

i passed first time, probably because i've been driving only for a year and only for short distances (2-3 kilometers) so as not to develop bad habits. i had plenty of lessons though, all 26 of them from two instructors.
