I decided to start this thread because I know a lot of people on here will have had a very bad experience living here and I need to encourage everyone to please do your bit to get this sh1thole off the list of student residences, there's strength in numbers guys.

When people look into staying here they are shown a nice apartment, but most of the apartments are riddled with mould. The landlord is a wánker, I know a guy who rang him over na dover, left any amount of messages, emailed him, and eventually when he got a hold of him by blocking his number he ignored any comments asking him why he didnt answer or reply. He also won't answer calls from Agnes O'Farrell from accommodation, or indeed parents of the tenants.

First hand, this is what I've experienced. Freezer broken, landlord ignores request for repair until the acc office, the prtb and a TD got onto him. Curtains regrow mould less than a week after being cleaned. No fire extinguisher and landlord said "Sure there won't be any need for one". Smoke alarm going off irratically and landlord said "At least ye have one that works". Buzzer for upstairs apartment didnt work, he said "Ye shouldnt be having guests anyway". Burst Pipe and he said "Sure what do ya expect with the flooding".

    TOTAL GOB****E.

And to top it off, no tenants got a copy of the lease agreement, despite asking for it on numerous occasions. Please, reply to this, if we get enough numbers we can sign a petition, do anything just to ensure its taken off the list!!! please, if there is something wrong with your apartment and the landlord wont do anything about it, get onto the accommodation office!!

You can find contact details for the accommodation office here:http://www.nuigalway.ie/accommodation_office/

please call into them or email them or get someone to do it for you, we can win this war together!!!!!

Would it be worth asking the Accommodation office if it's possible to get the place removed from their list? If it's really that bad and the landlord won't even take their calls, there isn't much reason for him to be allowed to continue to be affiliated with them.

    fair play reap-a-rat!
spent a while in there with friends and stuff. the place is a scum hole. A friend of mine has had no hot water in their place since the start of the year. and he wont even try to fix it.

Ya iv been on to the accommodation office cos im tryin to get my deposit back, and i told them that theyb shud reconsider having it on the list of recognised student residences, but i dunno will they do anything about it or not!
All I can do is warn people to stay away from there, because he's as ignorant as they come!!!

well in your living in my block (which i don't think you are) the alarm that goes off is manly the evacuation alarm (some f***ers from last year keep smashing it! silence button comes in handy!) He kinda forgets about our apartments and doesn't really bother us much but i have never had a problem with ringing him about stuff thats wrong in the apartments even came at 12 o clock at night to fix a problem for me!

Amhra house is a terrible location to stay, the only plus about it is it is close to town. I suffer from asthma and informed the landlord numerous times about the mould that was in my room, never once did he call around to fix it! Ignored every call about it, when he came around to do inspections he told me he would fix it but never followed up on it. Freezer door was broken, couch was broken, internet didn't work, heating didn't work for months either!

A petition to have this removed from the student accomodation list is a brilliant idea, the college would have to remove it if a large amount of past tenants informed the college of their past experiences they would have to remove it.

exactly, students year after year are being misled and its just not good enough!! the place "apparently" has a 3 star Bord failte standard, MY EYE!!! its just not up to standard at all, and students' health is being compromised, another fella I know had that mould problem and had a bad chest for months due to it!!!

im living in amhra house this year. its not toooo bad, but i will agree about mould and dampness. we started leaving heating on over weekends and trying to dry the place out. internet doesnt work in the single room, got o2 broadband though. the entrance door keeps breaking in my building and randoms end up on the halls and banging doors and generally scaring me ****less:P
the locks for bedroom doors wernt working and because i got off to a bad start with my flatmate i wanted to make sure my stuff was safe and my room locked. he kept telling me to think about it whenever i phoned him about the locks, and when i gave up my dad phoned him and ate the head off him tellin him wed be moving out the following week and expect our moiety back because we dont have basic privacy in the flat and he eventually came down :) (go daddy :D )
my friend downstairs only got her hob fixed last month, a guy came in and put them on and was like "theyr heating up" and they said "yeah.. but thats as hot as they go, its not hot enough to actually cook anything" and he decided because they were heating up, they wernt broken and left! insaaane!
finally what bugs me about this place is how anti-social it is! i know 6 people out of alll of amhra house.. what the hell?! nobody talks, and im in the side building at the bottom of the road so theres only 4 flats (inc myn) in my block.. no fun at allll :/
oh! and we had a small fire and the alarm never went off! flatmate and friend layin sufferin from handover, she left clothes layin on hob and turned oven on not realising the hob knobs were on (they got hot then when oven was turned on) and i smelled smoke from the shower but they didnt cop to it, (sleepin) and then i went to see if food was burning just as they started screamin:P smoke alarm costs what, a tenner? he can even buy me one out of my damage deposit, but i would like an alarm

my original point was that one person complainin to evryone they can complain too cant make a difference... let me put it this way, if i complained that my soup was cold in a restaurant they wouldnt pay all that much heed to me... if everyone complaines that their soup was cold the restaurant would be worried they'd get a bad reputation, theyd be extra helpful and offer ya refunds and stuff, but if they didnt change their h & s inspectors wouldnt be best pleased and the place would lose business and close!

Complaints, many complaints have been made... But when its from the same person it wont make a difference. Everybody who has had a problem should complain DIRECTLY to the college's accommodation office, only that way will Amhra House have to up standards or get taken off the list of college accommodations!!!

Good on ya Tara for starting this thread!

It's a scum hole. My friend had no hot water or internet and the landlord ignored her calls and messages for months.

As Christina said, the place is ridiculously anti-social. Nobody knows each other. I suggested that ye all have a big party out in the courtyard in the new year :)

That Agnes O'Farrel one is useless anyway, our situation in Corrib got to the point of having to have a meeting with her and she was dire. When she was told about how everything was broken, the place stank because of rotten food left everywhere/fire alarm broken, shower/bath filled with clumps of hair, noise all the time, unable to sleep etc she replied with "Ogden Nash wrote an awfully funny poem once.." and went off on a tangent about how we should "simply compromise".
