But isn't that the whole point of her doing this speech? She has no qualifications in politics and the only reason she is there is to raise awareness of world politics is because people see her name and some of them will hopefully read the article and take note. What she says at the speech means nothing compared to her public image raising peoples awareness of the subject.

Lots of celebrities use their status to voice opinion and speak on various causes. Bono being a prime example. People, well, some people care about what he has to say, so surely, people will care about Shakira's point of view as well?

Exactly - She's using her fame to raise awareness.
It's sad that people are instead choosing to focus on her image and criticising her appearance, when she's trying to do something good and using her voice to speak on something she's passionate about.

Read too much into things much?! If the guy hadnt of said that was shakira i wouldn have known... she is looking rather plump in the photo in fairness, cant argue with that. And for someone who blatantly uses her attractivness to sell records, people commenting on her weight (especially if she balloons) is to be expected, and in all honesty is fair game, not shallow. Oh and still hot in that photo me arse, porker!:D
