Why Killing In The Name Of?

Cause it sounds like the least christmassy song ever. It wont happen anyway it might make it to 10 thats about it.

Because the chorus is "FúCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME"

Which, would be making a statement as to the fact you're not conforming to the rules that X factor is going to be number 1 at christmas.

Nice one! I was discussing this last night with the house mate, fed up of the X-Factor winners going straight to No.1 and just said it would be great if someone started a campaign for another song to get to the top for a change! I'm in anyway!

There's also a campaign for Bob Dylan's "Must Be Santa", which at least is seasonal. And before anyone butts in with their opinion of Zimmy's vocal powers, I can't stand Zac's voice, so :p Hopefully one of the songs get to No.1, but it's hard to counter weeks of Simon Cowell's idoctrination.

Oh, and the profits from Dylans xmas album go to charity

Me thinks everyone should text in to the ray foley show, whether you like him or not, he has a pretty big audience, and as can be seen by when he brought journey back to the charts, he can do ittttttttttttt.

It has a naughty word at the end and would be therefore a "challenging alternative Christmas No1". As opposed to a turgid, pedagogical funk-metal workout as I first assumed.

So you're just conforming to something else being number 1?
    You rebel, you!

Think I'll just carry on in my belief that chart music is all **** and carry on listening to music I enjoy, not what people tell me to...

Agreeing with tman on this one. Don't really get the point. To be honest I could never tell you what is no.1 in the charts anyway and couldn't give a rat's ass either. I doubt RATM's idea of sticking it to the man was to rebel against the likes of xfactor.

What, you mean like the time "Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter" was UK Christmas No.1?

I am still chortling at that.

Great idea, I'm going to do this. What is it to buy a single track? 99 cent or something. Would be kinda funny to have it in the charts :D

Where can you buy it though? I don't have an ipod or an itunes account (nor do I want one).

I'd much prefer to see Dylan's go to number one, I mean, it's Dylan, it's for charity, and it's actually a catchy song.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,798 ✭✭✭✭DrumSteve

tenner bets cowell will buy the rights to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭BaZmO*

So, at least 150K unit sales to make number 1?
Rather give my money to charity tbh.

Would buy Dylan before eh...who's this song by again?!

Not one band can actually come out with one decent Christmas song these days. We've had one good song this decade and that's Don't Let The Bells End by The Darkness. It's sad, really sad...

And that was beaten by that Mad World song which is even worse. Christmas songs should be number 1 at Christmas even if it means Slade or The Pogues every year.

Not for Ireland, I was referring to the UK. If it doesn't make the UK no.1 spot I doubt it will make the news.

Sony own the rights to both RATM and x-factor contestants so the only winner is.........Sony.

    Harsh buzz.

I just read this article that was posted earlier in the thread. Usually I can't stand the NME, but they do a pretty good job of pointing out how stupid an idea this is.

I think people are reading a bit too much into this. Yeah its sadly ironic that a song with the lyrics "fu*k you i wont do what you tell me" being the same song everyone is being told to buy. But isn't it all just a bit of a laugh is it not? No need to get so serious about it...

It would certainly make a refreshing change from some over hyped, vapid, utterly talentless karaoke singer getting to no 1 cause he/she was on a tv show. X-Factor is the HIV virus of the music industry - no matter how hard you try to stop it, muppets still go out and get it.

Not sure how refreshing it is really. It would be refreshing if a great song made it to number one without the need for a coordinated internet campaign.

It would be refreshing if only for the fact the artist performing it wrote it themselves. What's so great about a song getting to number 1 because the "singer" was on a glorified karaoke show?

Ah yeah exactly. If its a choice of a song written years ago, and can we all agree a brillant one :D, or some karaoke tripe ill go with the former. Correct me if i'm wrong but bohemian rhapsody took the christmas number one twice, much better then any other crap that was probably out those years.

Still someone mentioned Bob Dylans Christmas single which I think would be a great number one.

    Why bother?
Just sabotage the DHL warehouse on the 11th! Therefore the HMV's and Golden disks don't recieve the x-factor at all! :D

This is a link to the Irish version of the group. Please note the download dates are different to the u.k group...

We are aware that simon and rage are on sony but its not about money. Its about the fact that the x-factor has taken over the xmas number 1 for years and needs to be stopped plus it would be hilarious if it happens.

    The clues in the name...

Rage against the machine-Killing in the name.

Look, everyone is on about this whole, "Isn't it ironic that you're still supporting Simon Cowell/Sony/just following another crowd blah blah blah etc." I don't care who the money for the single goes to. I don't care if it goes straight into Mr. Cowell's big, fat wallet. I don't care if it's just following another crowd like a sheep. It's this simple: I would prefer to see RATM at No. 1 this Xmas than to see some X-Factor cover there again. If Rage is at No. 1 it will have to be played over Christmas and I would rather listen to Rage than X-Factor karaoke. Simple as that.

    No it won't.

God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols was number 1 for the Queens Silver Jubilee and it didn't get played.

Its a bit ironic aswell that it looks like it'll be Journey's song that is Xmas Number 1 this year. And I agree that it was Sopranos that brought that back, he didn't mention Journey until after Sopranos finished in the US, then it built up til it was shown over here.

I'm not saying Soprano's didn't have a hand in it, so did Family Guy and Scrubs...

But if he hadn't mentioned it on the radio at the time, nobody would have hardly noticed it, and it would have just been "another song" in the program.

He had a major play in getting it to number 1.

I hope it does, especially after readin that Simon Ghoul feels it is "dismissive of the audience that watch X-Factor".

Well Simon, the people that watch X-Factor are generally pre-teen twats who wouldn't know real music if it came up and stabbed them in the ****ing face.

So is everyone who watches a tv program you don't like a pre-teen twat?
