Do you rest when you're ill?

    Morning folks,

Been ill all last week but kept training (Although had to stop Saturday session short as I felt too sick) and I went to Jiujitsu last night but had to stop for last half hour as I was just not in the game.

Right now sitting in work, chest feeling heavy, head feeling light - possibly the dreaded man flu ;) and contemplating going to the gym tonight.

I know I'm meant to rest but really feel I'm starting to get into the training now and to miss a few day's will just annoy me.

So what I want to know is, when you're ill do you rest or do you continue to train?

When I first started my weight loss - I would drag myself to the gym in any state. It was too important to me - I realise now, that was a bit silly & its probably better to rest.

I think sometimes its hard to decipher between the onset of a cold & jsut being drained from training and dieting. So I always tried to train through it :)

l always try to sweat out my illness unless it's ridiculous. If i feel i'm coming down with something i just wrap myself up well and go for a run or go to rugby training. the adrenaline and getting a sweat up always leave me feeling much better, but my girlfriend thinks i'm nuts

First off training when your ill is really counter productive, your leaving the gym exhausted (which is never a good thing, good health or bad), now you've even lass capacity for recovery, the fluids which are vital to your well being during your illness are being lost through training, as your ill you'll most most likely be dehydrated will will lead to further dehydration (ie, you can not sweat either a bug or hangover out!).

More importantly for those around you, its anti-social, esp. when your still going to your Jitz classes and rolling with people who won't appricate bringing YOUR illness back to their family and work mates.

There ya go, make of that what you will.

Listen to your GF, the mammie's (even when their not mammies yet) know best.

Was about to say the same thing, these threads pop up now and again, and responsibility regarding spreading illness always seems to be a long way down the list. If you really want to train through it, go for a run outdoors.

Cool, as annoying as it is its really best all round as its impossible to make any gains when your ill anyway!.

    Get well soon.
