A show that gets 4 seasons is hardly a turkey... it might be looked down on by trekkies, and it might have had a horrible theme tune, but it was a good show (particularly towards the end).

Staying off topic, the 4th season was excellent, after the first few episodes sorted out the bizarre time travel story.

I loved Bakula in Quantum Leap :D

I havent liked Ray Romano in anything

Andre Braugher is very talented underrated actor

Is the show a comedy or drama or dramedy?

The hour long format suggests it definately isn't a straight out comedy, while I also I doubt, with that cast, its a straight out drama. Gonna guess dramedy?
Gonna give it a look tonight anyway

It looks like smiles rather than LOLs, but I think I'll check it out.

Looks decent enough from the promo... I'll have a look at it later on...

He was superb in Homicide:LOTS and won several Emmys

(and for the record "Enterprise" was a travesty from start to finish (season 4 did not suck quite as bad as 1-3 but was still an insult to the audience))

    I watched this last night.

Not sure, yet. There are signs of promise and a pilot normally has a lot to do in a short amount of time.

I'll give the next 1/2 a go before deciding.

The main beef I have is Ray Romano. That voice .. @rolleyes:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,686 ✭✭✭EdgarAllenPoo

It's slightly depressing but I'm guessing the main point of the show is were the characters go from here. Did get a laugh at the broken nose bit though.

Not sure myself yet either, but will give it another episode... Don't want it to be too serious or I won't watch...

Anyone watching this almost unheard of new US series? It started on the cable channel TNT at the beginning of the month and is quite brilliant. It's a 'dramedy' about 3 almost 50 year old guys dealing with their almost mid-life crises. It stars Ray Romano, Scott Bakula and the great Andre Braugher as the titular 3 as well as Penelope Ann Miller and various other familiar faces. It's probably the best new show I've seen since Breaking Bad.

Don't let the fact that it's written, produced by and starring Ray Romano put you off. I used to hate the man and I despised his sitcom but he's brilliant in his. Far more subdued than I've ever seen him. He's got some great acting chops as seen in episodes 2 & 4. The whole cast is outstanding, really, particularly Andre Braugher who I've been a huge fan of since Homicide life on the street. I can see this picking up lots of award nominations in the coming year. Some episodes are also directed by Ed Bianchi, who helmed some of my favourite episodes of Deadwood, Brotherhood, The Wire, as well as the short lived Kings from earlier this year. Wonderful director.

It's a real gem of a show that I hope some of you guys will watch. It really deserves to be a lot bigger than it is.

Watched the first one and really enjoyed it.

Will catch up over the weekend.

For some reason, I figured it'd be dire. Hm, will have to remember to check it out.

I was expecting this to be a really bad, corny comedy but I really enjoyed it!

Anyone else start watching it? :( I loved this weeks episode. It was one huge 'Rocky' love-in. :D

You can be pretty sure that there is no such thing as an 'almost unheard of new US series' when it comes to this forum ;).

I have yet to watch beyond episode 1. Can't get past Ray Romano's voice. It even annoyed me in 'Ice Age'.

Sarah Clarke on this weeks episode :D I never found her attractive on 24 but she was just adorable in this.

Great episode, really funny. I love how honest and real the dialogue in this show is. You really believe that these are 3 lifetime friends just shooting the sh!t over breakfast. I find it a joy to listen to.

I couldn't stop laughing at Joe's 'stare' and Terry's brilliant facepalm afterwards. It was hilarious. There was loads of funny moments, I had a permanent smile on my face for the whole 40 minutes. I don't know if it was the best episode so far(very close) but it was undoubtedly the funniest.

    Love this show. :D

Watched episode 3 last night. It's not very 'sticky' - nothing has happened so far to motivate me to stay with it. I'll give it one or two more.

Yo TV fans.. I saw this thread and decided to check out MoaCA to see what all the fuss is about. For that reason, and because I'm a big fan of Andre Braugher. He's considerably larger than his Homocide days but the acting skills are still solid. Can give or take Romano, I sometimes watch his Raymond show but mainly for the comedy of his brother, can't recall his name. Back on topic, I enjoyed it now, and will definitely watch the rest of series. it didn't strike me, or have the same impact as Breaking Bad did when I first saw that, but there's enough here to keep me tuned in for more.. I will post again when I have watched them all. Thanks for putting it up.

Robert is correct, Brad Garret the actor..

Am I correct in saying there's only 6 episodes in this first series of Men of a Certain Age, or have they only aired 6 in the US?

    Cheers Basq.

Only aired 6 so far in the US.

    It's a 10 episode series.

Ep 6, Go With the Flow best offering so far I thought.. Some very funny moments, Terry can be hilarious..

I've watched the first 3.. it's very good alright. The writing is pretty damn strong.

Andre Braugher is superb as always. I loved the opener to the 2nd episode where Terry chases after the jeep that almost ran him over.. and Joe tries to take a photo of it on his phone. And he takes a photo of them and Owen says "why didn't you tell me this shirt was so tight?!" :D

Yeah, no regular version, this week, only a 720p one.

It was probably my favourite episode so far. :D Such a perfect mix of drama and comedy with the usual sublime dialogue and acting. I can't stress enough how much I love this show. It's just an absolute joy to watch.

On the strength of this thread I gave the show a go and was surprised by how much I liked it. Not much going on it but still addictive. Watched all the 8 episodes over the last few days. The bookie is probably the best character makes me LOL.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,772 ✭✭✭civis_liberalis

I read a post somewhere saying that you shouldn't be put off by the fact that Ray Romano is in it. :D

That's why I didn't watch it in the first place, but I really like it I have to say.

It's 1 of my 3 programmes I watch every week now. House, Men of a Certain Age and Big Bang Theory.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

After this thread I decided to give it a go yesterday and I'm after watching the first 6 episodes now. Really liking it :D

Edited to add, is it just me or does anyone else think Scott Bakula is seriously under-rated? I'm really enjoying seeing him back on screen as I havent seen him properly since his Quantum Leap days.

Yeah wasn't a fan of Ray Romano either but he is great in this, I even go a far say the most entertaining of the three.

I don't think it's the type of show that will do cliffhangers. It's a very laid back show. There's nothing exciting enough in it to warrant a cliffhanger. Which is just the way I like it.

    Gonna watch episode 9, now.
