How much junk food do you eat?

Obviously the posters in this forum are exercising to some extent and possibly trying to eat right. So how do you handle a diet regarding junk food? Do you avoid it at all costs, break it down into some ratio or just eat whatever whenever you want? And do you find it difficult to avoid?

I've never really been a big sweet or chocolate eater thankfully. But i pretty much eat 90% healthy and 10% crap. Just so i don't go insane.

One Take-Away every two weeks, but I have the metabolism of a Dyson hoover, so I don't have to worry about the carbs, it just make sme lethargic if I eat too much crap.

My diets woeful - usually at least one take away and one pizza per week, 2 - 4 bags of crisps a day. Main diet isn't too bad but lots of filler crap and snacks. I pretty much eat whatever I want - when I'm in full scale training I burn 5,000 - 8,000 calories per week in exercise so I figure I can afford it.

November was a bad month for me
Off the top of my head I had 2 Pizza, 1 BK, 1 McD's, kebab & one day that was mainly based on hungover chocolate and crisps binging - I'm probably missing off something too. I'm still in or around the same bodyfat % as I was, which is shocking! Although, with that said, i was still training regularly
I'm of the opinion, that what I had above was REALLY pushing the limits of whats acceptable.

Generally I'd have something once every two weeks, tops.

I sort of allow myself 1 cheat meal per week where I can have whatever I want (usually a chinese takeaway). If I'm not out drinking, I'll usually have it on a Saturday evening so I'll maybe go easy on other food during the day to try and keep my total calorie intake down seeing the takeaway will probably be through the roof calorie wise.

I think in order to put on 1 lb of fat per week, you'd need to overeat by 3000 or 3500 calories. So I guess if you are eating less per day than what you are burning, one wobbly meal per week should be alright.

I know I could be stricter but I find it hard to stay on the straight and narrow if I'm always denying myself stuff. And unless you're trying to go for a Mr Olympia physique, it's often not necessary to be super super strict.

This weekend alone had 2 bacon double cheeseburgers and a pizza and 2 nights on the rip avg over 10 drinks per night....but thats what Mon- Fri is all about, work hard then relax in my case its cycling 150kms 4 weights sesssions 2 boxing classes and 2 swims thinking about it so I really should have gone for the hat trick on the cheeseburgers !

I actually love cooking at home, so I'm lucky in that regard.

Although I do love a Chinese about once a week, esp. after a few gargle's :D

My down fall is beer, I love it. I love the craic with the lads over a few, or watching a good DVD with a dozen Guinness for company.

When I give that up, the weight drops off me at an almost frightening rate.

I drink sh*tloads but dont seem to eat much at weekends so it balances out.
I moved into a place beside a chipper recently so i usually get something filthy out of there about once a week. Can't be mackerel salad all the time!

    +1.

Also, I don't consider burgers junkfood.

It depends what you class as junk, eg I would sometimes eat homemade burgers made from lean mince and fried in olive oil, I don't regard that as junk. Whereas I would regard a battered sausage and chips from the chipper as junk.

I eat less takeaways than I used to. In a two week period I will probably eat one chicken vindaloo from the Indian and one Big Mac meal from Mcdonalds.

Given my appetite, metabolism and training I have no problems maintaining a healthy weight or bodyfat. If I were to eat takeaways non stop, I'd get full before I'd get fat. But I'd also be eating ridiculous level of salt, sugar and sat fat so my diet would be very unhealthy.

I know what you are getting at though, for me burgers in general get a bad rap. And start frying your burgers in Butter dammit. You need to replace the goodness which got cut off the steak.

I have a chinese takeaway twice a week.

That sounds appaling but I usually eat well the rest of the time, I would'nt drink as much as a lot of my friends, and I burn a very large number of calories through training so it does'nt really have any effect on me.

One takeaway a week is perfectly acceptable though imo and I dont think anybody should deny themselves that (of course a lot of people dont like takeaway food which is also understandable).

To me Chinese Takeaway = MSG = Don't eat.

Not for fitness reasons, for not eat utterly horrible chemical **** reasons.

I'm pretty similar. I love cooking and thanks to cook books i can mix it up so it never gets boring. Not a huge take out fan. I might have one or two a month. Either Chinese or a pizza. Mostly when the lads are over.

And also like you, my down fall is beer. I nearly always end up out twice a week. And it's more so for the craic with mates than anything else.

what's wrong with beer? I seem to be able to lose lots of weight in it and get in good shape while still drinking at weekends.
When you guys say "Chinese", does that mean the whole chicken balls/chips experience or like a chow mein or chop suey? The latter two wouldn't really be junk imo.

Beer is not the issue is quick sugars and will get burnt first , the issue is after and on a night out ya will eat a load of junk and because ya have stocked up on about 1000 calories of beer the food wont be needed so thats where the weight comes from

Chinese is fooking junk full stop - full of salt majority use way too much cheap oil for stir frys , only good thing would be dumplings steamed etc

pizzas in ireland are SO expensive, it's ridiculous, i dont bother with them. 5 euro for a delicious one where my folks live in France, tonnes of little pizza joints.

I go mad once a week. Usually. I'm absolutely anal with my calories so I'm always aware of whats going in (and coming out!). Eating junk is not so much about what it is you are eating, its more about knowing what your eating so you can engage in measured damage limitation. i.e. I'm fine to eat 8000 cals in a day because I know what level of sacrifice I have to make before and after to make it possible.

For me the problem with beer is that it stops me from exercising the next day. Not a problem if i go out Saturday night but i love the spontaneous midweek night out too. And i end up going hours and hours without eating when drinking. I can't eat when drinking. My appetite goes out the window so i can't even eat on the way home. Maybe a sandwich at home depending on how drunk i am.

And for me a Chinese is actually proper Chinese dishes. Not that chicken ball and 3 in 1 type crap.

Chow mein, scezchuan, chicken balls, No difference. Salt. MSG.

Very little, im happy enough eating non 'junk food'. I find if i eat somthing thats quite highly processed my digestive system and stomach take a bad hit (bad gas, stomach pains etc) so i just don't bother really anymore. Im addicted to Granola at the moment so that keeps me ticking over for binging :D

Just buy a Chicago Town pizza from Tesco or something. I never order from Dominoes etc anymore. No value for money whatsoever.

My diet is alright weekdays (although I still eat at some chocolate everyday) and horrendous on the weekend (vodka, pizza, burgers, cheapo chicken kievs etc). My weight floats between 84 and 86kg. Once my clothes don't get too tight then it's all good, if they do then it's just a matter of being good for a couple of weeks and then back to the good times :)

I drink at least twice a week and would have a few sausages in the mornings with my scrambled eggs a couple of times a week..otherwise not too much junk but i enjoy the occasional feed-up in Jimmy Chungs where i take "all you can eat" very personally.
I must say the fastest weight loss i ever noticed was when i gave up drinking whey shakes during the day and at night..lost a stone in three months.

I only eat things that are beige.

And I've a great physique as per recent threads...
