Well, I for one will be supporting the Cote d'Ivoire. Good team, good players, think they have a chance to go all the way (seriously) and might as well put my Ireland flag to some use!

Who is voting Ivory Coast?? Drogba plays for them. That is reason enough alone to hate them!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

Wont be "Supporting" but I want England to win simply because I backed them to.

    Spain!

Come on Torres, Riera, Reina, Alonso, etc...!

Germany, because a lot of my favourite bands are from there and supporting a random country isn't based on reason :)

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Despite my hatred of Drogba id like to see Ivory Coast shock everyone and win it. But failing that ill be supporting Spain because of their beautiful football style ;)

    por-tu-gal por-tu-gal....

looking forward to winning money on Ronaldo being top scorer, and portugal reaching the semis, game of the group stage has to be brazil - portugal, what a game, especially since it will knock one of them out in my opinion.

Wifes portuguese by the way, she's the boss.

    FRANCE FTW !!! :pac::pac::pac:

    England and then Holland.

Hoping for a sticky, humiliating end for France, Germany and Italy.

Also in tandem with above, I'd like to see underdogs do well (unless they're tyrants).

Also there is something funny about the states doing really well. Would annoy people.

    Les Lions Indomptables.

I'm very surprised no one has voted for Slovenia yet.

    England or Spain for me.

I'm betting on England and Spain to win it outright. I'm actually hoping that Spain win it though because for the next billion years we'll never hear the end of it if England win it.

    Allez Les Bleus.

The Netherlands have been my 'other team' since 98, primarily because of being dazzled by Bergkamp and Overmars in the Prem around that time. I'll be rooting for them again, although I don't have the same sense of 'attachment' to them as I did a decade ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,616 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

Every European team except France (though if they play sexy football I'll probably end up supporting them as well).

    Any opponents of England.:pac:

    And Honduras.

Slovenia - because they gave the ultimate V-Sign to FIFA by knocking out the seeded team in the playoffs. Serves them right. Slovenia's win was one for the little guy, and as an Irishman I'll be getting right behind them, as we also know what it is like to be screwed over by the powers that be.

After them I hope Australia do well. I absolutely love the country.

For novelty reasons alone I hope North Korea do well.

Teams that i dont want to do well are : France, England, Portugal, Argentina

SLOVENIA for me aswell , for all the reason 04072511 stated

Also like to see England do well.

Honduras all the way for me, I think they could cause a little shock in this tournament.
I mean, they aren't going to win it, but I'd be quietly confident that they could get out of their group.
I will be sticking a fiver on them to do so.

The biggest underachievers in world football perhaps. Have been in nearly every world cup and have made the Last 8 just twice (1970 and 1986, which on both occasions they were the host nation).

Well in fairness, with their qualifying group it's expected

I know, which makes the fact that after being in so so many world cups they have achieved piss all (except when the host nation) all the more facinating.

    Like see England do well

But ill be cheering on Germany all way

and Slovenia because they were in same boat as us to qualify for this world cup and hope they do well.

Think they will surpise people they should got draw in Russia and to beat Russia over two legs is no mean feat.

South Africa, purely because my gf is there but other then that I've always wanted Argenita to do well but with Maradona at the helm I'm not too confident!

    Why?

    Spain;

because they play the best football - by a mile
    they have the best players
    they play fair and honest
    they have the nicest kit
they have one of the greatest and most humble managers in world football

and winning the World Cup will see them go down in history as one of the greatest teams ever.

and also because they were cheated out of 3 of the last 4 World Cups.

Do explain. Yes they were cheated in 2002, but I cant recall any others. 1998 they certainly werent cheated anyway. They went out in the group stages because they bottled it.

I was at their last game in 1998 when they beat Bulgaria 6-1 ... But the other game in the group saw Paraguay beat previous 100%ers Nigeria and Spain were gone.

The mood that night in Lens was a bit ugly, Spanish fans were convinced (even before the games) that money had changed hands and that Nigeria had been bought off by Paraguay.

It was a big story in Spain but had no impact around the rest of the world as everyone else was continuing with the tournament.
