No one seems to have started a thread on the Big fight on RTE now.

There seems so be more of an interest in the Khan fight.
In my opinion Macklin is a talented boxer- now in a league above Lee and Duddy. He's ranked top 5 by most of the Main Bodies now. He's looking for Pavlik.

Great to see pro boxing on Irish Terrestrial TV:D

Seems the crowd are very close to the studio so I assume it is so they can hear each other through the headphones.

Well as soon as Andy Lee came on the camera the fans where cheering his name.... maybe just to cancel that noise out

Should be a stroll in the park for him but I don't know if he should chase Pavlik. Sylvester would be a better option imo. Although there are rumours the Pavlik is having motivational problems and issues with alcohol. Could be bull poo but if true then it would be a good time to chase him.

unless they had signed Rock, lee and Mick dowling up for a run of fights and there wasnt room for Dunne.

Macklin is flavour of the month, but he is more of a champ then Mandy Lee is, his last fight was a joke

Its easy to cast aspersions like that. But he is European no. 1 and Ranked Highly by all the main bodies. Lees last fight was terrible. from the moment he entered the ring he lokked a bit disinterested. Then he kept his left out the whole night, and never threw and dangerous punch, and to top it off was out on his feet by the french blokes last punch.

Agree about lee, Manny S hyped him so much and he believed it. After the last fight he was so out of it, he was griefing the crowd, then he remembered he was in Limerick & started saying they were great!!

Macklin, seems like a good prospect, I met him after the Dunne Fight, but I'm sceptical and i don't think he will beat Pavlik, yet

Pavlik's confidence gone a bit since he lost to Hopkins, might be a good time to meet him. What time is the fight kicking off tonight at lads. Watching it on the RTE website and dont want to use up any unnecessary bandwidth.

WTF happened to Ricky Hatton?? i seen pics of him a few months ago in here, He's a disgrace in my eyes. he lost two fights against The Two Best Boxers in the world at the moment. Instead of wiping himself down and training for a rematch or maybe a few easy fights under him, he goes and eats mcdonalds and drinks his pints.

He had floyd running scared, if he was a pro he would have won. But he's not, he is a chav, his lifestyle is a joke. Everyone told him he needed to maintain his muscle mass and weight, but he wasn't willing\ able - thats why he never became world class

He never stood a chance against pac

He has/ had a great chin and pushed fighters and was relentless in the ring, he was tough and relied too much on this fighting Maywether. The puch that caught him against Maywether was stunning and would knock most fighters out, he really should of got a rematch and trained hard for it. Steve Bunce said he couldnt believe his eyes after the maywether fight Hatton was at the Bar Downing shorts and was clinging onto the bar at the end of the night.

Ricky does a great job of getting the weight off - but there can be issues with Insulin resistance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insulin_resistance with the life style he chooses outside ring. Assuming he isn't training and his muscles are degrading - this condition more then likely will lead to his punch resistance dropping the way it has. As his musclesaren't able to get the required amount of glucose in, despite the fact he looks in good shape. This has been pointed out to him by successive experts and floyd mayweather sr said this is something he needs to put right.

Yeah i cant imagine The way he treats his body. Yoyo dieting ****s the body up full stop. Even in every day Humans there bodies dont know WTF is going on. So for a pro to be doing this is shocking. He's paased it now i think, at 29 i cant see how he could get back to fitness and fight at the Top level.

caught some of the fight ona dodgy stream. kept going and missed the last round entirely.
Maybe Im wrong but i think now is the time to go for pavlik before someone else gets all the credit. Id be happy if macklin beat any of the champs though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 585 ✭✭✭Rob113

You cant help but be impressed with Macklin. I think he would easily take Lee / Duddy. I think he is above their level now. Interesting to hear Pavlik has booked the garden for paddy's day. Is macklin ready for that? If Pavlik is battling the demons like the other poster said then it could be the perfect time for Macklin to step up and beat him. Would make a good fight and would certainly tell us a lot about how good macklin is / how good he could be

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,392 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

Pintos was no mug. He caught Macklin with some nice shots from the 6th round on but his power wasn't good enough to hurt Matthew. I thought Mat was actually slowing down a fair bit in rds 6,7 and 8 but i suppose (/hope)this was just pacing himself. He picked it up well again for the last 2 rounds.

He has a tendency to leave his left hand low and he can be caught when he's throwing shots so he'll have to tighten up if he's to fight at world level but having said that he has sweet power and caught Pintos with some really hurtful shots and seems to have a nice knack of just moving that little bit to find the angle to get behind the guard with some lovely power shots.

From what I saw, Pintos was simply a punchbag, and a small one at that.

He was small alright and was in bother from the start but from the 6th round , from once it looked like he was going to get stopped he stepped it up and began to land with shots when coming forward. A hardy little fukkr, took some big shots and could easily have folded but credit to him for sticking in and actually improving as the fight wore on. Macklin was definately a class above him though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,534 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

Mudine couldn't get rid of Pintos either. As Andy Lee said this guy deserved credit for going the distance considering the amount of powerful shots he took from Macklin. Looking ahead, even an out of sort Pavlik may be too much for Macklin. I don't think Macklin will be able to cope with the power of Pavlik, who, although he looked one dimensional against Hopkins, will still be good enough to trouble Macklin, who tends to leave himself exposed at times but gets a way with it against opponents below world level.

Id say if Pavlik has the garden booked then itll be Duddy he's facing should they both come through their next bouts.

Pavlik fights on the 19th of this month while Duddy fights on a top rank card (the undercard of jml and gamboa double header) which is also in the garden so all signs point towards a Pavlik-Duddy showdown.

Perfect time for Duddy to take him imo. Duddy isnt any worse now than he ever was so we'll say he's at his peak, plus he has been exposed by pavliks sparring partner, so there is a chance that pav may underestimate him due to this or not take him as seriously... this is a good thing if duddy was just having an off night. Apparently pav is having all kinds of troubles but yet his only loss is to Hopkins 2 weight sections above middle. I wouldnt favour Duddy but this is his best shot if he gets it.

Macklin could be mentioning Pavlik to not look like he is chasing Sylvester and has plenty of options. Im sure he wants Pavlik but the likelyhood is he will get fighting for the IBF.

I too hope he want gassing, he hasnt gone past 3 rounds in over a year so hopefully this fight served its purpose.

You could almost see Duddy pull off a Rocky-esque victory. Pure fairytale stuff. I havent seen Duddys last couple of fights but id be surprised if he had it in him to threaten Pavlik.

Did anyone else notice Hatton was pretty "well on" when giving his post match interview. Slurring his words and repeating himself. Nothing puts on weight faster than drink, and we all know Hatton likes his pints, but getting pissed when he's supposed to be promoting his boxer is a bit unprofessional.

I predict a sad troubled future for Hatton. Shame

Was watching Macklin on tv last night I was wondering did anybody notice that Macklin was wearing Little Mexican style gloves that are more for bangers and his opponent was wearing the those big puffy everlast gloves that have a bigger padding across the knuckle are both boxers not supposed to wear the same type of gloves can anybody shed some light on this

He was making more sense than Jimmy Magee.

I turned off the volume when he came out with the following.

Macklin will be writing home tonight though, oh he will, to his family in Roscommon and Tipperary and Birmingham and wherever else they may be.

That was the straw that broke but it was close when he uttered there is no where in this ring to hide, perhaps he could hide in the pub at the end of the South Circular road.

Can RTE please get some new blood in!! It is cringeworthy watching any sport with Magee commentating at the moment.

Jimmys a ledg!!! Commentators are always biased anyway and you have to take what they say with a pinch of salt. Id rather hear a Magee one liner than reams of biased commentary on a mismatch of a fight which you get on all stations, but RTE is where the one liners are!!!! And no matter how much sense he was making he at least shows basic professionalism. Hatton on the other hand did not and its a regular thing. He's a promoter after all.
