Do you think you'd give up your life for Ireland and to insure the safety of Ireland and Irish people?

Myself, I believe I would, I'd give up my life to fight off foreign invasion but would not if Ireland were involved in an occupation style scenario

And what happens the following year when the no claims bonus is gone...... two people must die..... then the year after five, and the year after possibly ten.
    Insurance is just a cod.

Only if I had a geniune reason eg. my life affected majorally by foreign invasion.......on the other hand, if ireland decided to start a war with a country, and said country decided to invade ireland, I'd be the first one out with my 'WE WELCOME OUR NEW COLONISTS'' sign.

I wouldn't be much use dead. Come to think of it, I wouldn't be great as a soldier either. I've concluded that me going out there into battle would be a bit of a waste as it would just be me getting shot and nothing good coming from it.

No hope, i'd kill for Ireland though.. Kill certain Dail members that is...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭koHd

No. Not for land. I would die for my family and people I care about if needs be. But not for land or a government.

Why the hell would I die for this country??

We got shítty weather, a pack of cúnts in government, a recession that we'll probably never get out of and a bunch of paedophiliac priests.

No, I wouldn't die for Ireland.

But I would consider putting my life on the line for mankind if Earth was ever invaded by aliens, provided there is some sort of special-effect laden epic battle in which I fly into the alien mothership and blow it up from the inside with a nuke while escaping with seconds to spare. Yeah, I'd be willing to do that.

So basically the upshot of this thread is, if Ireland ever get's invaded their'll be nobody left to conquer because we'll all have done a legger at the first sign of trouble?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,846 ✭✭✭siltirocker

Im surprised by the amount of people in this thread who wouldn't put their lives on the line for their home, friends, family & freedom.

Without even thinking...YES.Under the right circumstances
i just have to look at the community i live in , it's a true irish community, i would do anything for the people in it , the support there is unbelievable and i would definatly give anything for my country if i thought the circumstances were right... (and that is not a cop out)

It depends on the situation. Context is key. Generally, no. I might risk my life to save others but I wouldn't sacrifice it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,547 ✭✭✭Agricola

I think I would yes. I dont look at it like "Im dieing for a corruption filled, morally and financially bankrupt state". Ireland was here along time before that scenario came about and it will be here along time after.

Edited: For the current fvcked up, corrupt, materialistic, greedy region that will be soon totally controlled by European bureaucrats: absolutely not.

Don't get me wrong, Ireland has served me well, but I can't see myself dying for it. Nations are social constructs with human attachment added to them. Ultimately on this world, we are all trying to get through it as easily as we can. I would support that people recognise eachother as brothers and sisters across borders rather than focusing on nationalist mindsets.

Is there anything I could die for? - I'd like to think so, I really can't know until the situation arises.

In the event of a invasion of the ROI, a-la 1930s Nazism, yes.

Planting a bomb in a shopping centre in Bradford or East Belfast, no.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,572 ✭✭✭WeeBushy

Well depends what Ireland is under threat from... But considering most of my loved ones live in Ireland, then absolutely. I'd give up my life in an instant to save them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,969 ✭✭✭robby^5

    I'd kill for Ireland. Kill.

I'd put my life on the line for family and frends if they were under threat, but wouldn't die just so the flag above Leinster house is green, white and orange instead of, say, the union jack.

No way would I die so the modern day Irish aristocracy get to keep their power, they are no less greedy or corrupt than the Brits were when they were here and they treat the plebs with no less contempt so feck them if they expect me to die for them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,238 ✭✭✭✭Diabhal Beag

It really depends. If I feel personally against the invasion I would fight. If the invasion was because of something retarded that Brian Cowen did **** that bull****.

I don't really have a definite answer because this the kind of scenario that you never really know your limits.

The truth is this country is being invaded and has been invaded for the last decade or so , its easy to spot the enemy , they live in the suburbs of west Dublin . they drive bashed up micras and other jap crap and korean cars , they are bleeding us and our country dry , but everyone is too afraid to say anything .
when the revolution comes surely this will be a cause worth a sacrifice

I agree, I wouldn't die so we have a tri-colour flag over leinster house, or for the present government. But defending (and therfore possibly dieing for) your country goes way beyond who happens to be the taoiseach.

The men of 1916 are spinning in their graves. A lot of Irishmen died over the years so that another bunch of Irishmen could take over and run this country into the ground in a way that even Cromwell never managed.

With the results we see here. Once we lost the Brits as the perennial enemy we were left with the terrible truth. We have only ourselves to blame for the mess we're in.
