Could you kill a person?

People often say things like "oh if they ever did that to me i'd kill them" or if they touched my parents/kids/car/penis i'd kill them.
The question is "could you kill a person"? or would the guilt that you'd taken someones life eat you up until the day you shuffle of this earth.

Depend's what that someone did really, if they robbed my bag of peanut's probably not, if they stole my car then yes.

It's easy to say ya would but unless it was the extremist of extreme circumstances I'd say most people wouldn't even contemplate it. (At least I hope they wouldn't :pac:)

I think the question should be 'could you live with the guilt of killing a person'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Davidius

Probably not. You'd want to have done some awfully sick shít to warrant that kind of response from me.

I could kill memories of someone ,out of anger.
If I was entitled to kill someone ,so would they be ,so I don't go there :(

    No.

If someone ever hurt someone I loved; I'd feel enough hatred to want to kill them, but I don't think I could ever go through with it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,213 ✭✭✭SoWatchaWant

    Don't know.

Depends on how drastic the situation is...Like if someone was attacking me seriously I'd try and kill them :D I sound crazy there!

    But otherwise no.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 192 ✭✭bellapip

I could live with the guilt of devine retribution, I could live with the guilt of if he/she/they got there first, and I could live with the guilt of he/she/they came to try me,.

The guilt of killing without emotional compulsion, fear for me or mine, or reason,.

    No Guilt would get me.

I say no for now, although a lot murders are crimes of passion and Id say most people in these situations never thought theyd end up being killers.

Im also suprised at the lack of revenge murders/attacks by family members of victims of serious crimes. I suppose its easy to say now if anyone ever killed/raped a family member/loved one, Id have no trouble killing the bastards, but then again, you wouldnt know until you end up in such a situation.

That assuming guilt would be present.
If I have gone to the extent of taking a life, there would be no guilt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,255 ✭✭✭✭The_Minister

I think so, but it's hard to know without being in that situation.

I don't think I could kill someone cold tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,490 ✭✭✭Ordinary man

I reckon i could kill a person easier than kill an animal. Strange:rolleyes:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,859 ✭✭✭✭Sharpshooter

I don't think so but then I've never been tested.

I could protect myself if I needed to, but saying outright 'I could kill a person' is just pseudo-scummy bullshit

That doesn't really apply to murder.:)

I think you were saying that if it went that far then there was reason enough for guilt never to come into it.

    Am I right?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 34,567 ✭✭✭✭Biggins

    Why?

Correct - if I've had to plan to take a life or have taken one to due to work/training, the presence of guilt should not automatically be assumed to be present.

Because you're killing someone else...I was trying to be funny.

    Never mind.

I'm gonna stand over here now.:(

Yes. I could kill a person. In certain extreme situations I would kill a person.

Now, ask me if I could live with it..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,662 ✭✭✭RMD

    Depends on the situation.

Army situation, you're ina gun battle, it's either you kill them or they kill you. Not a bother, give me a gun and I'll shoot to one of us can't shoot no more.

Doubt I'd kill someone in a non life or death situation, it's not that I couldn't pull myself to killing them, but if I wouldn't see a need to kill someone I wouldn't try no matter what they've done to me.

Really depends at what the person did tbh..

Yeah I could. Though not cold heartedly or in a premeditated manner. More of a reactionary thing, like in a sudden outburst... particularly if they persistently tried to ruin my life or the lives of others I knew.

The feeling of wanting to kill someone, actually considering and wanting to end their life is no to be confused with merely hating someone and wishing they'd merely go away. Like when some trolls try to derail your thread or something... you might say 'I'll kill them', and while you feel strong negative emotions... it's only a figure of speech.

It all depends on the context.

If they hurt me/a loved one and I could get away with it, then yes. Without a doubt. **** the feeling of guilt it's their own fault.

Dunno about stabbing them or other ways.

    Guns make killing easy!

As per the amount of replies - it depends on the situation... etc....

Generally...i.e. 'if i had to' i 'could' kill someone yes. Personally with my psychological makeup i would admit that yes, sadly i could take a life if it came to it. It doesn't take a 'hardman' its just an act.

Now the first time you kill somebody, that's the hardest. I don't give a **** if you're ****in' Wyatt Earp or Jack the Ripper. Remember that guy in Texas? The guy up in that ****in' tower that killed all them people? I'll bet you green money that first little black dot he took a bead on, that was the bitch of the bunch. First one is tough, no ****in' foolin'. The second one... the second one ain't no ****in' Mardis Gras either, but it's better than the first one 'cause you still feel the same thing, y'know... except it's more diluted, y'know it's... it's better. I threw up on the first one, you believe that? Then the third one... the third one is easy, you level right off. It's no problem. Now... ****... now I do it just to watch their ****in' expression change.

Uncharacteristically daft response there Url. Naive really. You think that because you couldn't that others couldn't either? If that was the case we'd have no murders at all.
Could i kill someone? Yes. No wannabe hardman. Just someone who knows what is possible in extreme circumstances.

    Agreed.
Its our a survival instinct. If i had to kill to live i would-like if it was me or them. Kill or be killed kinda thing.

    Premeditated-No.

    Out of spite-No.

    One exception:
    Thierry Henry-Yes.

Exactly. Everyone else saying otherwise is either a murderer or a liar.
