I posted during the summer about the CDiscount warehouse in Dundalk and some good deals they had on TV's, Ray Ban's etc. They have gone into liquidation and the liquidation sale is starting tomorrow. Was advertised this week in the local rag. Called in to them yesterday to try ang bag an early bargain. Not selling yet but they gave me a price list. PAY ATTENTION because there are some really good deals:

    Samsung NC10 €199
    Aspire netbooks €149
    15' LCD TVs for €69
    19' LCD TVs for €99
    42' LCD TVs for €449
    32' LCD TVs for €249
    Tosh 17' laptops for €399
    Sony Vaio's for €399

Some of the other products include Reebok steppers, X Trainers, Bikes and rowing machines. DVD Recorders, blu ray players, coffee machines, toasters, kettles, microwaves, hoovers, wine, pc's, gaming machines, duvets, clothes, sports etc etc.

Is this going to be a warehouse sale or an evil auction ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 239 ✭✭onemanband

They have taken a retail outlet in the Northlink retail park which is on the main bypass. Coming from Dublin you take exit Dundalk South. Continue through some traffic lights past Harvey Norman and Dixons and go through the next roundabout. Northlink retail park is then on the right hand side. You will see Franks Furniture at the front. The guy gave me a mobile number 087-6184709 to call for any details.

Given they have a price list I assume it's a sale

I will be there on the dot. Their range is huge so it will be hard to give comprehensive update on pricing.

Think it is starting at eight in the morning. As far as I know it's a sale.

I'm very very weary of these "super" sales after I've been caught out a few times meself.

False advertisement, shop soiled items, veeeery limited stock (as in 1 unit only), people queing for hours just to get in, absolute chaos inside, no fitting facilities, odd sized clothing (massive and miniscule), no-refund-no-return policy, cash only, etc. don't cut it for me.

Now, I'm not implying that this one would be similiar, just warning people not to expect too much. If it sounds too good........

would thread with caution here, buying electronics from a company being liquidated is high risk imo

I would not be posting about this sale if I felt it would be anything like you describe. The sales that were held in the summer were very professional. New stock and only from the main brands. Changing rooms and lads to take your stuff to the car. They are busy but maybe that's a good sign.

I agree. I would only buy new stock covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

List is huge to be honest. Tom Tom, Navman, Mio, Garmin, Michelin. About 10 models of each.

Cheapest is Via Michelin at 49 euro with euro maps. Tom Toms and Garmins start at 79.

If you have a model in mind I will check the list.

I'm highly sceptical. Cannot wait to hear how people got on!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,493 ✭✭✭mcaul

I'd be mr. skeptical when it comes to hotel sales, liquidation sales etc etc, but this one is genuine.

Basicall CDiscount is a huge French retailer (€28 BILLION in sales) (possibly the biggest) - they licenced their name and took shares in a company set up to sell to the Uk & Irish markets.

For some reason the relationship between the French & the other directors went sour and liquidators were brought in approx 6 weeks ago.

At this stage the liquidator (usually a large accountancy firm and not a fly by night operator) wants to turn assets into cash and see what is available to apy bills. A liquidator is looking for a quick sale and has no interest in waiting 6 months, so they normally sell below cost to ensure it sells out.

here's the newspaper details from a few weeks ago.

    RETAIL
    Cdiscount
An Irish online retailer has gone into provisional liquidation following a row between French and Dutch shareholders. Cdiscount, based in Dundalk, a joint venture involving businessman Ciaran O’Donoghue and the huge Casino retail group from France, was placed in liquidation after a petition was presented to the High Court by Casino. The company has debts of €8.2 million.

“Irish Cdiscount folds”, the Sunday Times reported in a story which explained that O’Donoghue and his brother Niall own 25 per cent of the UK and Ireland business. A Dutch entrepreneur, Henk Keilman, owns another 25 per cent and Casino has the remaining 50 per cent. Casino, with global sales of €28 billion and 10,000 retail outlets , separately owns the Cdiscount brand in France where it is the biggest online retailer.
A row broke out between Casino and Keilman in the summer about how the UK and Ireland business should be run. The dispute escalated and Casino, which says it is owed €4.6 million by the Irish operation, went to the High Court to have it wound up. Michael McAteer, of Grant Thornton accountants, has been appointed provisional liquidator.

O’Donoghue told the Sunday Times that they had received expressions of interest and they hoped to sell the business as a going concern.

    And also

    RETAIL
    CDiscount Retail Ltd.
A provisional liquidator has been appointed to a Co Louth company which operated as the regional base for a French on-line retailer. The High Court appointed Michael McAteer provisional liquidator to CDiscount Retail Ltd. after being told that the company was insolvent and unable to pay debts of some €8.2 million. The court returned the matter to later this month, according to a report in the Irish Times.

Drove by it this evening and they seem to have a decent enough selection of TVs on display on the wall.

Don't touch that Viamichelin. They stopped producing them in 2007 , so the maps are ancient, with no hope of an update. See www.viamichelin.com

Was their, didnt think the laptops and tellys were great value, when compared to up north and the fact you just cant bring them back within the year if anything happens, would wait for january sales at this stage..Seen some shirts for €25 not to great....most of the exercise equipment wasnt that cheap..some of the skipping ropes i saw are same price in argos..perfume and watches were priced very good..some of the computer stuff is cheap...

But one bargain i saw was gym, workout floor mats..their usually priced round €20 but they had em for only €3

A NC10 for 200€ is a great bargain alright, they'd be closer to 300€ normally

I paid 100+ for my Shure headphones last year and while the SE110 are on a slightly lesser price range, I couldnt resist getting two pairs for a tenner each. Should keep me happy for a few years.

Also, picked up the Bosch hand blender for 30. I wasnt sure if it was good value but we needed it, and might as well chance our arm there. Just did a check on amazon and it was 44 sterling.

Definitely a touch above organisation wise from what I expected. Was there early, busy, but not uncomfortable so. All staff were helpful. Shame they are going out of business, hope there arent too many jobs lost.

    Thanks very much, OP.
