Morning mood improved significantly by Christmas FM playing Andy Williams 'its the most wonderful time of the year' on my drive across the M50.... gear!

I love when you only get to listen for a short period and catch one of your favorite songs.

WFH for the rest of the day so will have Christmas FM on in the background as unusually for me I have no meetings scheduled for the rest of the day. Sweet!!

After going my whole life without hearing that Christmas shoes song , I've now heard it twice in two days. A truly dreadful song.

We need to crowd fund and buy the title / royalty to that song to ensure it is never played again

That is an astonishingly great idea. 😁

What part of the country are you? It was fine today on 105.2 around south Dublin.

Have enjoyed it more than usual this year. Hated song count:

    Christmas Shoes: 0

    Once Upon A Christmas Song: 3 :(

    Christmas Time Again: 0

    How I Know It's Christmas: 4 :(

Instead they are playing some classic bangers. Go Christmas FM!!

I have heard that Barry Manilow song - Christmas is Just Around the Corner - quite a few times in recent years, including today. It's really grown on me for some reason. I also heard some Christmas song today by The Jacksons that I had not heard before - not a cover of any well-known one. It was interesting. That new song by Ed Sheeran and Elton John - Merry Christmas - also got played today, and, so far, I like it, which surprised me!

Yea I have to agree the Ed sheeran and Elton song is very good. Can see it joining the playlist for every year.

Always liked that Barry Manilow one myself. Haven't heard the ed/Elton one yet... maybe tomorrow on my drive in to work though.

Hard to top that list! 🤣

I'd like to add Christmas Lights by Coldplay. Only Coldplay could suck the joy out of a topic like that.

Spent the day driving from Dublin to Sligo, Sligo to Donegal and back to Dublin... was disappointed that Christmas fm didn't automatically change frequency to match regions and I lost it for most of the day (other stations change automatically so I expected it to do similar) did enjoy the last hour though the playlist this year doesn't seem to be as good as last year for me... I tend to listen in less and less in the days before I finish work and think this year is no different.

Can't do RDS AF/EON if you don't actually have coverage; there would be plenty of that route with no coverage and hence nothing to switch to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 11,655 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Yeah suspected that was the case, think its one of the few regions with no coverage.

Had it on the whole way up and back from north county Dublin to Banbridge and held the whole way with perfect reception.

Don't know if it just me, but hearing 'I want a hippopotamus for Christmas' a lot this year.

I suspect that the Dublin transmitter could get up to Banbridge on its own; but there might also be RDS handoff to the Dundalk one and between them they definitely would cover the full way.

Actually from NCD you may have been on Dundalk the entire time!

@TRS30 yes I agree hearing I want a hippopotamus for Christmas' a lot this year

Also Christmas tree farm Taylor Swift

If I hear Dolly Partons 'Holly Jolly Christmas' one more time I'll scream... its my 2021 'not again' song since it went live on FM. When the DJ's went live in November online it was definitely the waitresses 'Christmas wrapping' which I like, so that was fine, but Dolly Parton is slowly melting my brain with her botoxed slurring of that particular ditty....

Funny I remember hearing it a lot at the beginning but actually haven’t heard it recently- thankfully!

    1. Hippopotamus song: I have heard that a lot over a number of years, including last year. So far this year, I only heard it once. It's tolerable.
    2. I have heard that Dolly Parton's song a lot this year and I agree about its painfulness!
    3. I think I might have heard The Waitresses' Christmas Wrapping once, or maybe twice, so far. I always liked it.
    4. Reception around the country: I have been travelling around the north-east and parts of Wicklow over the last few weekends and the reception, RDS and frequency changes have been flawless. From reading another post, the biggest black spot seems to be between the north-west and the north, particularly parts of Donegal.
