College Open Day?

Hi all, does anyone know what the story is re: classes for the Open Day next week? There seems to be a bit of confusion about whether classes are going ahead as normal; our lecturer this morning wasn't even sure. Obviously they'll be using the lecture theatres in the Arts Block & Hamilton, but will tutorials, seminars etc be carrying on as usual? Can't seem to find any information about it!

I have been told I'm off the whole day so I'm guessing most people are? I have lectures and tutorials on a Wednesday from 9-5 so I'm missing a good bit

I've been told I have everything as normal. None of the rooms I'm in are being used for the open day. I think its different for everyone. Presumably the departments will inform their students

We have no classes. Great as well since labs are on Wednesdays.

Will I be correct in assuming the library will be open so?

One lecturer said today that we were off. The others haven't mentioned it.

It has been in the past, so I don't see why this year would be any different.

Eh I have the whole day free, and thought that was the case for the whole college? Almost sure I got an email to that effect, which I seem to have deleted.:o

Looking at my online timetable, every lecture/lab that day has all the weeks except 15 (which is week 11 of Michaelmas Term) listed, so yup, I'm off. We had to double check in labs today, the demonstrators weren't sure.. We just assumed we were off!

Online timetable says I'm in for one lecture just, can't imagine the turnup for that lecture being too good. :pac:

We were to have it off but im not so sure now, think they might shove some of the missed tutorials from strike day into that day so i might have an hour or so :(

I've study week next week anyway, which is nice..
But I have an exam Wednesday morning- not cool.

I asked earlier- the Anatomy building's open anyway, I can only assume the library will be too.
    Hope so.

There's tours of some libraries though apparently, according to the open day timetable for 6h years.
That doesn't sound too good to me.

There goes my ambitions of working in the library that day....
Although I may soon take a page out of your book and get ear plugs. Found out my Biology MCQ is actually worth 20% of my module. Oh LOL

I got this from my department on the 1st of October:
We have been informed by College that all lectures will be cancelled on Wednesday, 9 December 2009, due to Open Day in College.

I'd totally do the MCQ for you, I'm sure it'd be grand. I wouldn't fail anyway.. :pac:

I appear to have been roped into working at the open day.. going out Tuesday night + turning up for 7.30am at college isn't my idea of fun. However, money!

So we've been told anyway it sucks. There's a strong likelihood that I'll still be in too, given my lectures are all in goldsmith.

That's really crap.. :/ Does your online timetable say there's lectures on? 'cos even if the place your lectures are is free, your lecturer may be tied up giving talks etc..

Only thing that's definitely cancelled is maths methods because it's in the macneil. No rest of the wicked I guess!

    It'd be on Monday!

Actually provided I make my Biology lab at 10 tomorrow I'll have won the golden week freddo challenge! *pride*

Didn't get the job for the open day. :( At least I get a lie in now.

Ah well, next week is different. Though you'd obviously fail that week's golden week challenge.. :P I'm proud too, all it took was bribing you with a bar of chocolate for you to turn up to college.. :pac:

You still might. The guy said if people pull out then they'd be asking other people to do it!

As I was forced to explain time and time again to people asking me why I was in morning maths methods, it wasn't necessarily the freddo but what it represented!

He did mention they were heavily subscribed though so I can't see it happening. Get as much free stuff as you can for me!

Hah, they not used to seeing you there? :P You shouldn't eat the freddo so, just make a shrine to it, and remember how proud you were.. :pac:

Like the lovely bright orange tshirt I get to wear? :pac: Not even sure if we get to keep 'em.. But yes! Loads of pens and other crap if I can find it!

It's a 9 on a Thursday and all I learnt today was how to integrate again....

Then I was free for 3 hours of frustrating Chemistry lab reporting : /

    Bad times

Perhaps I will enshrine the freddo :P As a reminder of the merits of hardwork... or something symbolic like that

Hah, our lectures last week in the so-called "Advanced Calculus" module were basic rules of integration pretty much.. :P Although we did move on to integration by parts today.. scary stuff. \o/

That, or I could get two, you could eat one and enshrine the other. Then you get the best of both worlds.

First, you need to bitch about the current mods, and the lack of representation for your end of college. (This'll be helped if you're Arts end, as we currently have no one *sniff*)

Yeah I got the same reply when I emailed the guy at like 9.30 this morning! I don't know if all those people just emailed him before me, or all the places were taken before the SU even sent the email!

    Ah well :(

Yeah was going to email about these 'jobs' on the open day but I'm in the sports centre doing a demo so I can't....

What exactly would ya be doing anyway?

According to the email I got, giving out prospectuses/programmes for the open day, giving people directions to various things.. and crowd control apparently. Ha, when they see how small I am they won't put me near a large crowd..

Dammit! I always forget the moderating font - it's the key to accessing mod powers, as I understand it.

Topic? Gah, would love to have had time to apply for this, seems like a really cushy number, but exams approach. :(

Try get pencils, I broke the nib of my only functional pencil today in the library and used an unsharpened pencil to hack the other pencil to pieces so I could get the nib from the inside of it so I could still draw...

    result= no pencils

Thanks for all the info (and entertainment!). Turns out Sophister History students will be having class that day. Clearly no one will need our windowless, airless bunkers that particular day :)
