    Hi all,

beginning of July I was playing squash with my colleague on a Sunday and then the next day at work after a few hours my right knee started swelling up really badly.

I never felt any pain while playing or afterwards, so I found it very strange. The knee itself didn't hurt except for the swelling. I went to a pharmacy to get one of those elastic bandages to control the swelling, but since there was no bruising of any kind, I didn't go to a doctor (and also because I find them useless).

For a week the knee was swelling up but eventually it got better - not as much swelling but it never felt quite right.

I started up the gym again a few weeks ago and I always feel the knee isn't 100%. Last night I went to a toning and conditioning class and my knee really hurts today so I think I had to accept that this won't just go away.

I don't want to go to a GP and pay 50 euro just for them to refer me to someone that'll charge me even more to take a look at my knee and maybe not be able to help either.

I live in Cork City - can anyone recommend any good sports injury doctors that will be able to have a proper look and tell me what to do to have this healed??

    Thank you!

A physio can refer you back to your GP if its an underlying medical issue in the same way so don't write off your GP just yet, they are professionals and can examine and treat quite a few sports injuries and at the very least rule out any other medical issue before refering etc. don't forget in most cases they'll be aware of your and your family's medical history and any susceptibility to various problems.

However if hellbent on seeing a physio first then try and book Catriona O'Sullivan at Lavitt's Quay, 021-4272662, can remember any more details as haven't been back in Cork since college but was good when I came off my bike, St. Pats hill was worth it though!
